Regional updates

Seeing as how there is a lack of updates from FIRST, and most people haven't been able to get internet access at the sites, there has been a distict lack of updates for those of us stuck at home. Seeing as how most people have cell phones now, and most of those have free long distance, it shouldn't be that difficult to get updates.

Are there people going to regionals this weekend who would be willing to call other people with updates to post on chiefdelphi? Obviously, the best people to do this aren't drivers or people integral to the operation of the robot, as they would rarely have time to find a quiet spot to call for 10 minutes.

Are there people who won't be going to regionals and will be near their computer this weeked that would be willing to take calls and post updates?

Who knows, maybe you'll make a new friend (or 2 or 3). Just post in this thread if you are interested, and we can work out details (phone numbers, approximate times, etc) via PM or e-mail or something.

I can post stuff on Saturday (much as I did in the AZ update thread).

If you're wondering about what type of things would be helpful to post about, I'd start with as much of the standings as you can get. Awards won and teams that look good are quite helpful too. Descriptions of individual matches and especially the elimination rounds are very interesting.

i am willing to make calls from utc to give award winners and rankings and interesting bots if anyone is willing to take the calls. If you would like yto volunteer to take some calls or text messages, from UTC post here that you would be willing so i can trade contact info via PM and if you want to set up a message system.

For those individuals that will be on the receiving end of these calls: are any of you willing to something along the lines of http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...iri#post180007 ? Not necessarily putting forth your favorites and reflecting on how well you guessed, but more a recap of matches, be they matches that stood out in your mind, or the elimination rounds. I think a set up like this may serve as a nice supplement to the regional results, and as prime reading material in coming years. Of course, the post referenced above was not the best example, but a demonstration of what I had in mind..

I suppose this should all be done in stages, however. I would not want to overwhelm those who have graciously volunteered to provide us with updates, taking us out of the regional-is-taking-place-and-I-don't-know-what-is-going-on state of mind that can sometimes be too much to handle ;).

I would be willing to give updates from Sacramento during lunch and after competition thursday, friday, and saturday.

[edit] our hotel has free high speed internet, so I can also post a detailed breakdown of what I see each day, sometime during the night.

There has been a small network of Indiana teams that keep each other posted (hence why people saw me carrying my phone on a holster in St. Lou!) I'm sure that there can be updates for the Detroit Regional if need be.

There was wifi and wired internet at UTC last year. Tons of people have laptops at the competition. This would make it very easy to keep the rest of the CD community updated. Does anyone know if there is going to be a net connection this year?
