Ahh! Prom!

Ok...Is anyone else freaking because it's two months before prom and you STILL don't have a date? I mean...I was worried at first that Nationals would be during prom (Thankfully they weren't) but now I'm freaking because I don't have a date. It's horrible but my school has a requirement that doesn't allow anyone to go stag. That usually wouldn't be a problem HOWEVER my best friend is dating my cousin so she has a date (she was the last one of us *myself excluded* who was still dateless) so now I'm high and dry! Any ideas as how to get a prom date? I've already asked two guys who polietely said no. One because of conflicting prom dates (he goes to another school and his prom is the same time and he already said he'd go with a friend of his) and the other because...well...I'm not sure! LOL! A few friends have jokingly said I should just go to the next competition with a sign around my neck that says "Live in Delaware? Want to go to a prom? Good! Let's go!" That's a little desperate but at this point...hey...anything is better then nothing, right? LOL. Any ideas guys? Any pick up lines I should try?

Just to let you know, it will be ok.

I didn't have a date to prom until yesterday and my prom is on the 27th of this month.

I didn't really worry about a prom date. I was myself with my guy friends and turns out one ended up asking me (even if it was at last minute)

Dont stress. Good things come in time :p

I don't see what the big deal about prom is... That and I've only ever been to one dance in my entire life. I'm just curious. What sets prom apart from the regular dances sponsored by the schools?

I'm not sure if I see the big deal about Junior Prom but I know as a Senior, prom is a big deal because it is the last and final dance that you'll be able to have with your friends. It's special because you make it special.

It's like anything...you only get out of it what you put into it. My friends and I put alot into our prom because this is the last and final time that we're going to be able to get together as a whole with our class and have fun. You always say that you'll stay friends and you'll stay in contact but the reality of the fact is...you know you wont.

I went to public school for eight years of my life. Then I transferred to public school. When I left public school I swore I'd stay friends with all my friends. That I wouldn't let our friendship die. I hate to say this but...my friendships last two months into my new school year until we just...grew apart. That's what life is like. You grow apart and that's ok. Enjoy the time you have. That's why Prom is so important. It's the last and final.

Oh my gosh! I'm totally in the same situation! I was kinda planning on asking the guy I just broke things off with to go just as friends but he just started dating another girl on the team, whom I'm sure he'll go with. I totally don't want to go alone. Come on guys, any suggestions for some hot, dateless ladies? :D

go there and hang out with your true friends.. to me thats the best way to have a fun time.... i've heard many stories that goes with that, the say the ditched their date and hung out with friends and had a much better time then they thought they would have had with thier date.

Oh! I seriously plan to go and hang out with my friends. That's not the thing. The thing is that my school REQUIRES you have a date. That means you can't go stag. Now, what some people do to get around the whole "you have to have a date" rule is they bring a friend. Like...a bunch of girls will work it out so that two girls go with each other and that way you eliminate having to have a guy with.

However, the last of my single friends just got a boyfriend and she is taking him to prom so...I'm S.O.L. unless I either A. Don't go or B. Find a date. Seeing as how this is prom and all...I'm going. Even if I have to buy a date (LOL! I wonder if that'd work!)

First of all I just want to wish you the best of luck in your search. I wasn't able to attend my Junior Prom due to driver duties at Nationals in 2002. I was fortunate enough to accompany my driving partner to his prom that year, however, I will never truely know the time that I missed with my friends at my prom.
Just to toss out some suggestions. Quite possibly it may not be a friend, but scoure your school through every single person to try to find an individual to "split a ticket" with you. Quite possibly you may even make a new friend in the process. Maybe you have a cousin female or male that would be close or distant that would go to accompany you or just go to have a good time on his or her own. Scrounge through all of your teammates, try to get one of them to go as friends.

Best of luck, and don't give up hope. :)

I remember my Senior Prom.. ah, good times.

I wore a Miami Vice like Royal Blue Tuxedo Jacket, (Not that baby blue 70's-ish with frilly blue. Royal Blue Baby!!)
I wish I was able to keep that Jacket, it was so cool.. It went very nicely with my Royal Blue Boots..

The girl I went with was one of my good friends at the time.
We just went together and had a great time.

Ah, High School... I remember it vaguely!! lol

Wow.... so you can't go to prom... Too bad! You miss out on the chance to spend lots of money, dress very uncomfortably, and fail miserably at dancing. If you want to just spend time with your friends, just go to the city, no need to spend all that money to get dressed up, just to hang out with your friends. Save that money for college. It can buy you a couple months of food (depending on how thrifty you are).

Oh wow...ouch. Ok...my friends are going and I want to too. Besides...it's the last dance with the entire school.

This is discriminatory and against the law in many states for purposes of employment. I am surprised that this hasn't been challenged or, if it has, that it held up.

Separation of Church and State. My school is a private school. In general, they can get away with doing certain things that public schools can not because they are a private school. To be honest, I doubt anyone has ever tried to fight it anyway.

Private schools cannot discriminate against protected classes -- race, religion, color, etc. Marital status is sometimes a protected class, but you'd have to check Delaware and local law to be sure.

Of course, I don't expect you to, y'know, take your school to court. I'm just saying, "be aware."

Yeah, but I'm not exactly a "people person"... But if I wanted to go by myself, I could. We don't have that "you have to have a date" rule. I might go, but as far as I can tell, none of the people that I really know are going to prom. We fit into the "misfit" catagory. And we are quite proud of this fact. :D
