Most Unique, No Doubt

team 469 is unique because robotics is our only sports team, u heard it. we have no football, socer, tennis you name it, we dont have it. First RObotics is the only organized school sponsered team sport at the International Academy in Bloomfield Hills Michigan where a majority of the studnets on the team coem from, myself included.

I'd like to add that 2 of those High Schools are EXTREME rivals in just about everything imaginable (Gavit/Morton). We also have about the most extreme dance parties on top of vans in parks at night, and have a bowling team, not to mention, oh.... 66% of the team loves each other, and the other 34% is loved by them too, most of the time. We also have a representative from every activity our school city has, from poms to science olympiad, golf to basketball, cross country to soccer, and all those in between.

(who knew robotics could be a dating circle???)

Besides being one of the few remaining original teams left we are the only two time Chairman's award winner in the history of FIRST.

Wow, this is a big thread... I guess it's gone a little off topic, but maybe I can bring it back ;) My team is (semi) unique because:

We have no large corporate sponsor... we have tens of small business sponsors.

We have students from 4 high schools, spanning two states (including two intense rival schools), plus several home-schooled kids.

Everything we do is done largely by the students -- no professional engineers doing all the designwork.

We've gone through 2 generations of coaches (even 3 head coaches) since the team began in '97.

elyse71: And we're very familiar with the robotics-becomes-dating-service syndrome...

Well off the top of my head a few things make our team unique. Most prominent being the letter A. ;)

Another being the fact that we had a pneumatic fork lift last year on our bot :D

hmm... we have too many mikes on our team.... mbiddy mmiddy etc.

last year i ran for president on the platform of being friendly :D maybe thats unique... *shrugs*

My school has no sports teams either. In fact, our only competitive teams this year are Varsity Quiz, Debate, and FIRST.

Also, the only college student helpers we have this year are freshman who were here last year. We have no professionals.
Of course, this *might* have something to do with our being a sophomore team this year.

My team isn't just a team. It's a class at our school, and at times, It's even a family.

we are the only highschool to have a PGA golf course, and our team is named after a canned meat, and i think we are biggest team, 56 memebers+adults

srjjs 13-01-2003 19:29

We are the only team that has our fundraising manager plan our build schedule. At least I hope we are.

I'm sure there are larger teams. This is our travel team from 1997. We left about 20 people behind because they failed to meet travel requirements. (Grades dropped from beginning of year, didn't meet fundrasing goals. etc..)

I will say that having a PGA golf course is pretty unique.

I'd have to say the ability to cook up things so fast. ;)

This is only year 2 for us and we already have some reeeeealy good experience :D

Ed Crammond 14-01-2003 07:35

Unique?

We're the only team from Europe
Pink Floyd went to our school and wrote "Another Brick in the Wall" about it
I dont know if its unique but we have a fully metric robot ;)

We have 37 kids and 24 adults. And this is one of our smaller teams. Back in the day the team went over a hundred members in 1995 . I doubt we'll get that big again.
