Thoughts of Chesapeake Regional...

After three days of intense compitition at the Chesapeake Regional we ended up seeding 5th and ending up 3rd. I feel that this regional was very competative as well as fun. The venue was great and the competition was superbly run. I have to admit it was very nice to have everythig running ( NJ regional had the rank written down on paper at the end of the day). The eliminations were also very exciting. Especially 1405 and 16 getting 210pts.
So if you went to the regional post a reply and tell us what you thought of it.

GO MORT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had too much fun. This was our teams (1391) first event ever. We ended at 15th place with 4/2/1 (win/lose/tie). We were dissapointed when we didn't get to play in the finals because the team who wanted to partner with us had trouble remembering our number. We had gone to the refs, but they didn't let us switch in.

Anyways, it was big big fun and in a couple of days I will posting some video from it (mostly of our matches.)

Maryland was definately a crowd pleaser in the finals. I saw an awesome level of professionallism from all the students and mentors I talked to. As a VCU engineering student - I have to say that the quality of the chesapeake regional is up there among the best (like VCU ..since I am biased :D )

Also, I can't saw how impressed i was with 1405 ( i belive thats right) leading their alliance to victory as a rookie. That is an amazing feat for any team to pull off, and them being new and learning it all on the fly made it that much better!!

Congrats to all!

I would like to say e few things about this regional
BESt EVER!!!
It was in a great venue with a great crew and awesome coordinators.
All the teams came out hard and it was a close game.
I would like to thank all above mentioned. These are all essential parts of a great comp.
Also congratulations to 1405 for being one of the two undefeated qualifiers(I know how hard it is ;) )
Any way thanks to all;we'll be at Phily, come watch or compete I hope it can meet the fine standards put out this weekend.

We here at 449 were very happy with this regional. The team was really excited starting friday when we jumped from 52nd place to 28th place after 2 rounds (first 2 rounds we didnt brake the chinup right, next 2 we did, and had scores 125-120, 185-70ish), all the way through the end of saturday, where we stayed hanging flawlessly.
We needed this win to get to Atlanta, so we'll see you all there!

Being a senior on team 11, i have been to my fair share of F.I.R.S.T. events (8 regionals, and 3 Nationals to date), and I must say that this was the most exciting event I have had the privilage to partake in. All the team were excited and enthusiastic, and the matches were great (I still have no voice after those elimination matches, and not just the ones we were in). All in all I can only hope that the other regional we go to (Palmetto) will be half as exciting as the Chesapeake was.

TEAM 11!!!

I'm, terribly sorry about the mixup with you guys not getting in our alliance. I came to the field with a list of numbers of teams above us in seeding. Obviously completely useless in picking teams. The student in charge of scouting was trying to shout 1391 to me but i couldnt hear him. I know it was a terrible situation and im really truly sorry. If its any consolation, Im almost definitley sure that there was no way we could have passed the quarter finals.

1257 your alliance fought us hard in the quarter finals and you should be proud of your accomplishments. you had one tough hangin bot and managed to keep us of the bar once....that's something nobody else did in the entire competition. Congrats on being bumped up to pick. Thanks for a hard fought battle. We hope to see you around again!

Re: Thoughts of Chesapeake Regional...

Chesapeake was a very-well run event, the food was good compared to other events, and the venue was beautiful. Anyone else enjoy the sunken ship just outside the gym?

I only have one complaint- their scale had some serious issues. We weighed in at 143 on thursday, lost 15 pounds in 90 minutes (down to 128.2), and promptly left the building (it was 7:55 by then)

So we stroll in the next morning ready to get inspected, and they tell us we're overweight. This coupled with numerous software issues made it a rather dissapointing weekend for us.

One last thing- Thank you Mike Wade and Pete Baltzell so much for setting up a practice field!! The field was amazing and helped so many teams throughout this event.

Yea..I would be the scout person that was trying to yell 1391 to Max at the time alliances were being made. Obviously there were some major glitches in the communicaton, and I'm extremely sorry that things turned out the way they did. We were really looking forward to working with you guys, because you had an awesome robot, and it's really quite a shame that we didn't get to.

Its okay! No hard feelings. We had a great time and it was an honor to know we wanted to be chosen.

Very soon (once it uploads) I'll be putting some videos from the event up on our site.

Re: Thoughts of Chesapeake Regional...

awesome...just awesome...so glad we went to this one. as a rookie team, we were surprised that we did so well (at least for the first few rounds before experiencing technical difficulties). we were ranked 1st before lunch on friday! and we got so many complements on our robot [from people whose robots raped us] even though we thought it sucked (ie: falling autonomous mode, speed, control, design etc) :D i especially enjoyed talking to other teams about their robots and their journey until ship date. i talked to many of the teams, rookie and vet, about their sacrifices, team members, money problems, robot problems, everything. it was just really interesting to meet a new and intriguing group of people all driven to do such difficult tasks like building a robot (that sounds pretty corny, but im sooo serious)..
my whole team, all 13 of them (which was a joke sitting next to team 11's spirited 59879823478923 people haha), enjoyed watching all the incredible robots and competition at chesapeake. it was tough, but everyone of those rookie teams stood high under pressure. it was a lot of fun even though we weren't picked for the championship and i hope everyone else feels the way that we, team 1463 the TRANSFORMERS, did about Chesapeake Regionals!

Thanks to all of the great teams that participated this past weekend. It was great to see over 100 points in almost every elimination match. My favorite moments were the 210 score, team 25's arm controls, team 1405's overall performance, and all of the teams helping out each other.

Speaking for the committee and the host, we can't wait to get started towards a 2005 event. If you have any thoughts for improvements, please send them my way.

Thanks to all of the teams that stayed late to help us clean up and to all of the volunteers who make it possible.

I'll see you either in Philly or Atlanta.

Aaron

Chesepeake was amazing. Everyone was doing everything they could to help out another team. Team 11 did spectacular and our matches had to be some of the most exciting there. Our two shoving matches with 25, the awesome battle with the "Fridge" and 222 made this trip worth while!

384 went to Chesapeake last year, and we loved it. It was a very well run and great regional. The food was good (if you left the academy and went somehwere within a walk of the place) and the naval students seemed very interested in the whole thing. We loved it and hope we can come next year, you know, when we have more money. :(

First off we would like to thank team 11 for giving us the oppurtunity to participate in the finals by picking us ... we had a blast ... it was great ... "that is what counts" - Mr. Finkel

The scale seemed to have issues with everyone ... we were over weight plus we had the first match of the day everyday ... so we missed all of our thursday matches and the first match on friday ... The judges didnt even let go like 2 ounces over ... so much for "... the judge's discretion ..."

then it turned out we had major problems with our wheels on the carpet ... after a few matches the great Mr.Finkel came up with the idea to use pneumatics tubing with tie-raps in them and tie em around the wheels so they r like omni-wheels ... it helped a lot and we saw a few other teams using the Finkel invention ...

Overall it was a great regional ... had a lot of fun ... we're going to the nyc regional to watch this weekend ... lets see how that goes ...

I'd like to second that -- thanks for picking us, team 11 ... we had a great time! Just wait till Columbia!

I must say I was very pleased with it also; it being on the Naval Academy, the cafeteria was nice and the arrangement was better than the typical venue. At first I was somewhat dissapointed, because typically we go to the Philly regional, which is always good, and we substituted this one in its place ... but after going there, I eventually managed to forget about Philly Cheese Steaks!

The more and more i read about this comp. the more and more upset i get about missing it :-(. I fought hard to get us to chessy, heh but hey college calls and i had to answer, but man im proud of my team, and im proud of all the teams really. You all put up great fights from what i have heard, and just being in first is something to be proud of, i have been in forst for 4 years and i grow to love it a bit more each year. See you all at Phill.

Not only are we going to Annapolis... Dean Kamen...
We're going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico! We're going to California and Texas and New York! Then we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan! And then we're going to ATLANTA to TAKE BACK THE TROPHY!
YYYAAAAAAAHHHH!

I think I had more fun last year. But then again Team 836 almost won it coming off a bad regional at VCU. This year was bad at VCU and Chesapeake. I guess the only positive thing for me was no one got sick. Oh well we have eight matches to prove ourselves.
