Gud speling
Periodically, discussions have arisen on this board concerning spelling errors in posted messages, and the impact of spelling errors (and netspeak/geekspeak) on the effectiveness of communicating the intended message. Without reopening that entire can of worms, I would just like to offer the attached story, gleaned from the Gainesville (Florida) Sun newspaper. Lest you think that poor spelling is a victimless crime, take heed from this poor sap that has learned the hard way - "spell well, or go to jail!" :)

Re: Gud speling
Ryan, it would be your luck that if you did type it up in word or what have you it'd still be wrong.
An example: Incorrect: Give me to hundred dollars and if the die pack breaks, I'll sea two it that your thru. Correct: Give me two hundred dollars and if the dye pack breaks, I'll see to it that you're through. All words are spelled correctly however, it is clear that they are improper english. Running it through word would not help. My suggestion; Don't rob the bank in the first place and if you absolutely must, check with an English professor beforehand. |
