Who's ready for San Jose?
For those of you who are going to San Jose and are you ready for it?
|
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
up we are getting ready for san jose, after major brainstorming over the current state of our robot we are going to have a major upgrade on our robot at San jose and going to build a winch from scratch on thursday.
|
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
we will be, but with a few modifications, making our hanging arm a bit longer. and improving our ball bumper.
|
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Good luck to all of you :D

258 will be competing at SVR, but we'll be mad scrambling on Thursday to add potentiometers to our arm and make sure our electronics / programming is in the shape we want it. We're looking forward to seeing ChiefDelphi out here in California, and we hope that all the teams from out of the area have a great time here. See you all in a little over a week! |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Hehehe...thanks! As a team member of Chief Delphi...we're happy to be getting the chance to come out there to California. We are looking forward to meeting most of the West Coast teams there in San Jose! Also, we are excited about this event as long as Nationals! See everyone in a week!!!!! :D
|
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
I can't wait until San Jose... and as a member of chiefdelphi I can't wait to go to California for my first time. it shuold be an exciting event and you never know what can happen!!! :D
|
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
I agree with the first two entries. This is a FIRST timer that we, Chief Delphi, is actually going to the West coast instead of staying in the Mid West. I hope to see all the teams that are going to be there. That means, more friends and new faces. :)
|
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Heh. I find it funny that most of the replies to this thread are by members of 47. I hope we put on a good show for y'all. :)
I'm mostly scared that we won't work, but other than that, I'm looking forward to SVR a lot. |

Personally, its going to be great seeing the WRRF teams competing again. Teams from out of state may not know about WRRF, but Western Region Robotics Forum has been an organization of teams in the Bay Area who got together a few years ago and decided that as a group, we can better support Robotics education related programs out here. There are lots of great people to meet , you simply have to go around the pit area and talk to them. Oh yeah, by the way, I will be there at the scoring table stressing out as usual :P. It will be fun score keeping at the oldest West Coast regional since it got started in 1999. I simply cannot believe 5 years ago I was only of the clueless kids standing with the team cheering for our robot. Its definitely going to be cool! *edit* Also, for those of you who are interested, I put together a package for the competing teams with a bunch of info for the area around the regional venue. Check them out at these links: Part 1: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/pa...le&paperid=265 Part 2: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/pa...le&paperid=266 You just can't be too prepared for a FIRST competition ;-). *edit* |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Team 100 will be there, with a robot performing better than last place :-P
Dont be surprised if you see us with an entirely new drive system. Cory |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Hey everyone, team 568 cant wait for the regional to start! See you all there.

I have been trying to put some stuff together for this Reginal. As some of the students said we have never been out to the West Cost yet, we usualy stay in the Mid-West or East Cost area. I am a little nervous going to CA "blindfolded" :ahh: . I look forward to seeing great things and great teams next weekend. Frosty |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?

I can't wait either there like maybe 6 or 7 teams going to SVR who are not from Califorina. |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?

But I survived. And if I can do it, so can you ;-). You will see that the west coast have a different pace than most Midwest, Michigan, and east coast regionals. But I must say I’ve always like west coast competition the best, even after visiting IRI. Statistically, there are fewer engineers on teams here, more high school teacher as mentors, and more student run teams. But we are slowly convincing that successful programs need a close relationship between high school students and mentors, so student ran teams have more and more mentors helping them now. Don’t be afraid to go around meeting people. There are a lot of great mentors and FIRST-a-holic at SVR who aren’t active on the Chief Delphi Forum. Its mostly because we communicate through the WRRF mailing list and meetings. |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
I've got a couple questions for the teams from outside the San Jose Bay Area. When do you all get into town? And how many team members are you bringing?
See you all soon! |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Hey, we're leaving alaska on wednesday afternoon and getting to SVR that evening. For us, its a big team this year, a whole whoppin 10 people! (students that is) haha. Another team from anchorage is coming down but i dont know how many people they are bringing. We're all stayin at NASA....i think...

Team 47 is arriving to San Jose on Wednesday noon(ish) to tour around town for that day. We will be having 27 student members coming..(thats our entire team minus coaches and engineers) |

Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
I also agree on it being a good idea...as long as we have time in our schedule to hang out. :D
|
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
True, time is of the essence. To answer the previous post, there are 10 students going down. For us, thats pretty big. This was the biggest year so far, i think. Robotics up here isnt the greatest and there is a major lack of resources and such. Also traveling with us are 2 or 3 parents, a teacher, and a school advisor.

Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
The Marriot is about 3-4 blocks from the SJSU campus, and NASA Ames Research Center is approx. 20-30 minutes away from SJSU by freeway. There are lots of locals who could act as chauffers, myself included, if people wanted to get together. I'm going to look into hosting some sort of party at 258's high school (about a 10 minute drive on surface streets from SJSU) on either Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night. I'll check the availability of the gym (where we've hosted roller hockey and pizza parties in the past) sometime today or tomorrow.

Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Quote:
Yeah one of our coaches told us the Marriot was only a few blocks from SJSU. So where walking, I hope the weather's nice. |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Oh wow. So much excitement about San Jose. Especially from us, Chief Delphi. Six more days and we're out of this crummy weather. Hopefully the weather over there will be better then here. Of course! :D Hope to see you there.

looking forward to meeting Chief Delphi and the teams from Alaska (and yep, the weather's great here... right now, it's pretty much summer  ) oh yeah, we're pretty much ready robot-wise - just need our shirts and the hair dye, and we're good to go |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
We're not too far away--just a hop, skip and a slog through rush hour traffic from Sacramento. :p We normally drive down the day before..early in order to avoid the traffic. Go to school for two periods, leave around lunch, make it to our hotel and relax, normally with a DDR tournament or Halo party. I love hotels. :D
|
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Cant wait to meet all the teams down there. Speaking of being ready...AH! We still have the programming to work out, and possibly a dead reckoning system. Man, the pressure is on. On top of that, we need to pack our tools and such, and also finish building our OI. With the first one, we tried to drill another slot for a switch but the whole lexan sheet cracked everywhere. But whats a little fun without a headache, eh?
Also, does anyone from the area know of any fun places or things to do around the NASA area thats within possible walking distance? |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
There isn't really much around Ames that I recall... You've got to go into San Jose/Mountain View to do stuff. Im sure there will be plently of people heading out to random food courts/restaurants/etc to hang out after competition each day. If you can get back to Moffett awhile after the competition ends, there will be plenty to do with other teams.

Re: Who's ready for San Jose?

SVR is going to be so much fun :D were going to build an arm from scratch on thursday to pick up the 2x ball mayb something to hang if we havent gone over weight  |

wish we could but theres barely any rooom for speed wholes :ahh: |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
The way i see it, speed holes can go anywhere! Throughout the build season i came up with a great way to save lots of weight....speed holes in the battery, pneumatics, air storage tanks, and in the compressor itself! :D

Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
lols sounds like a great idea
everyone better watch out for the swiss cheese of doom |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Does anyone know how the rooms are like at the NASA center? Just wondering. Also, are there supermarkets and such nearby?

Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
NOOOOOO :ahh:
due to some problems we might not end up going so sad :( i hope we still are going ill find out tommorrow for sure |
Re: Who's ready for San Jose?
Montana's only team, #473, is ready and rarin to go!
No goat cheese this year since food handouts have been nixed. Maybe we'll bring containers for bolt storage. We're staying in Santa Cruz to maximize our beach (and boardwalk) time since FIRST doesn't want us working in all-night metal shops even if they are open to all teams. Oh well. We plan to hook up a skimboard with 2 runners for carving and rooster-tailing in the surf! Ya'll are always welcome to come join us there for a look at old surfer's paradise! There's a surfboard museum at the point, and its the closet decent swim you'll find in the Pacific. We're also considering attempting a hand rebuilt on Thursday so we can use big blue irrigation work gloves to match the new cowboy hat we're bringing for our robot "Dixie". We hope to be even more serious competitors than we were in Portland (where only a couple bad breaks kept us from stardom). Excited to see you all next week! J# et al |
