Top 10 Scoring Averages "over 80" by Robot

I compiled some basic statistics on the qualifying match scores of Regional Competitions through March 20th. Only qualifying match scores were used. Elimination round matches were not included. The AZ match data has not been posted on the FIRST web page, so I've probably missed some good robots from the south.

FYI, the average score of ALL qualifying matches is 51. The highest qualifying score has been 200.

Here is a list of robots that have a documented qualifying average score of 80 or greater. I'd say that "statistically", these are the 'bots to beat - since they can consistently score highly no matter who their alliance partner is (which is why I only considered the qualifying match scores in the analysis). I apologize if I've missed anyone - and I'll keep this list "up-to-date" as more Regional Events are completed. If I've missed anyone, and you want to be on the list - send me your Team # and your Regional Event and I'll check your data.

94 Points Average (yikes!)- Team 501
90 Points - Team 236
89 Points - Team 254
88 Points - Team 311
86 Points - Team 753
85 Points - Team 222
82 Points - Team 650
81 Points - Team 69
80 Points - Team 1114, 233, and 945

Awesome, thanks! Can you tag the teams with what regionals they went to, or at least how many?

Just to clarify, these are the points that the team and their alliance member scored, right? Not the actual ranking points?

Yes - this is the "alliance" score.

I am not sure of anyother teams from UTC but I had gotten bored during prob&stat class and actually did some computations and I have figured out that my team, 521, was able to average 83 points during our nine qualifying matches

Hey, that was a sweet win at GLR for the Flyers. I paid a lot of attention to that Regional and was pleased to see two GM teams in the winning alliance. Unfortunately, your Q/scores of 70, 80, 60, 120, 75, 90, and 60 give you an average of 70. Still well above the national average of 51 - which explains why you did so well!!!

anyone have the official avg. including the finals for Team 138?

I'm missing the scores to a couple matches, but if they are not low-scoring ones, it would put our complete avg at 97 points

hmm
521 scores (110, 30 ,135, 30, 75, 75, 90, 100, 100) gives us an 82.777 <-- all the sevens are lucky ! heh numbers are fun

6.30 * 82.7 = 521 if you use significant figures ... lalala i have no home work ... ohh im bored

Oops....

Before I get crucified by all you stats experts out there, I had an error in my Excel spreadsheet ("measure twice, cut once" applies here too!). So I need to REVISE THE LIST (Upward!)

105 Points Average (double yikes!) - Team 501 (New Hampshire)
99 Points - Team 236 (New England)
98 Points - Team 254 (Sacramento)
96 Points - Team 222 (Chesapeake), Team 311 (Long Island)
95 Points - Team 753 (Sacramento)
94 Points - Team 650 (St. Louis)
91 Points - Team 69 (New Hampshire)
88 Points - Teams 1114 (Long Island), 945 (Florida), 233 (Florida)
87 Points - Team 571 (New England)
84 Points - Teams 237 (New Jersey), 219 (New Jersey)
83 Points - Team 131 (New Hampshire), 521 (New Hampshire)
81 Points - Team 181 (New England)
80 Points - Team 616 (Virginia)

I'm sure there are robots I've missed - particularly those hovering around the 80 points level (I’ll try to keep up with those that post responses)....In the future, I'll probably just keep a list of the top 10 average scores. The cutoff for that right now appears to be at 88 – so if you think you’re above 88 right now, then let me know. I'm sure that score will only increase in the next couple of weeks as experience pays dividends.

Re: Top 10 Scoring Averages "over 80" by Robot

Having calculated my teams scores, there seems to be quite a learning curve.

Our average qualifying match scores for:

Event 1 (BAE) = 55.6 points (8 matches)
Event 2 (UTC) = 108.3 points (9 matches)

This gives our overall average score of 83.5 points/qualifying match.

This makes sense to me because so many of the teams at UTC had already attended an event. I also think that the nature of the game this year lends itself to a steep learning curve. Many teams struggle initially, but once they find their specialties, they drastically increase their scoring. I look forward to some monster scores at nationals!

Good luck and have fun,

Rob

If you're talking about the BAE Regional, Team 138's Q/scores of 60, 50, 130, 85, 40,45, 120, and 55 give you a scoring average of 73. Still pretty good!

I'd be even more interested to see these in relation to the regionals average score. For example, 501's average is 49 points above the NH average and is a lot more impressive then 236 being "only" 27 points above the NE average. I think 501 deserves a triple yikes ;)

Edit: I'm not on 1403, you misread the last digit ;) We (1405) only averaged 60 something at Chesapeake.

105 Points Average (double yikes!) - Team 501 (New Hampshire)
104 Points (yow!) – Team 1403 (Chesapeake)
99 Points - Team 236 (New England)
98 Points – Team 254 (Sacramento)
96 Points - Team 222 (Chesapeake), Team 311 (Long Island)
95 Points - Team 753 (Sacramento)
94 Points - Team 650 (St. Louis)

Though we are no longer fit in your cutoff zone off 88, I figure I would let you now that we, 521, played at UTC not BAE though you mihgt have seen some of our scouts there checking things out our robot did not compete. Our match score were
120,90,60,10,90,130,125,120,85,65= 89.5 ave

If you drop the low score we would have a ave of 98.3333

Re: Top 10 Scoring Averages "over 80" by Robot

Okay, okay…..I missed some good (I mean GREAT!) average scores. We have now evaluated ALL Team scores from ALL Regional Events completed through March 20th. Only qualifying match scores were evaluated. Since this year’s game is called “Raising the Bar”, I’ve raised the “cut” to 90 points average or greater (Sorry Team 1114 GM Simbotics, your 88 doesn’t cut it any more – better pull up your socks at the Canadian Regional next week). I’ll update this list again after the March 25-27 Regional Events data is available…..

Since these are all terrific scores, I’ll say “Yikes!” to all listed:

109 Points Average - Team 175 (New England)
108 Points - Team 121 (New England)
105 Points - Teams 501 (New Hampshire), Team 126 (New England)
104 Points - Team 1403 (Chesapeake)
102 Points – Team 237 (New England)
100 Points - Team 945 (Sacramento)
99 Points - Team 236 (New England)
98 Points - Team 254 Sacramento)
96 Points - Teams 222 (Chesapeake), 157 (New England), 311 (Long Island)
95 Points - Team 753 (Sacramento)
94 Points - Team 650 (St. Louis), 494 (Peachtree)
92 Points - Teams 311 (Florida), 173 (New England)
91 Points - Teams 279 (Gr. Lakes), 69 (New Hamp.), 473 (Oregon), 178 (New Eng)
90 Points - Teams 176 (New Hampshire), 61 (Florida), 569 (Long Island)

Team scoring averages (using Qualifying Match data only) updated through the six Regional Events held March 25-27.

There is definitely evidence of “Raising the Bar” in terms of scoring averages this past weekend. There are now over 40 Teams with Q/match averages of 90 or greater! (Is no one playing defense???) Congratulations (yikes!) to all!

131 Points Average – Team 56 (Philly)

Andy,

You are correct on that one. I generated much of the data that Steve has been using to provide these scoring updates. I copied the results from the FIRST webpage into an Excel spreadsheet. From there I generated a pivot table which tabulated the pertinent data. Unfortunately, the pivot table treated the top row of raw data as a header, and did not include it in its calculations. Hence, any team who was the first team listed in the first match of a regional, had their average calculated without their first score.

Sorry about the error, and the excessively boring explanation...:)

Our average alliance score is 108.69 (This is taken from Qualification rounds only)
Our average alliance score is 118.08 (This is taken from Elimination rounds only)
Our average alliance score is 113.39 (This is taken from both Elimination rounds and Qualification rounds)

This total includes both the Chesapeake and Philadelphia Regionals. All in all we played 16 Qualification rounds.

Combined we played a total of 29 matches.

Our highest match score is 170 to 90. This was with team 1113 and against 272 and 1370. 272 was undefeated at the time.

Our highest Elimination score is 185 to 90.

Our win loss record for Qualification rounds is 14/2

Overall our win loss record is 23/6

Those were some great matches. Check out our opponents scores in the first and second rounds. QF1 (1030, 306, & 141) scored 125 & 140. They averaged 132.5 and still lost in 2 matches. SF1 (1278, 578, & 541) scored 80 & 125, a not-too-shabby 102.5.

This is a list for a team's performance at one regional (showing up twice possibly). What about a list that shows a team's average for all regionals attended?

Could you possibly make a list of the highest average score from each regional? The Philly regional had high average scores and VCU had low - just trying to see if Philly just had good teams or that the first regionals had lower scores.

Here are the "Final" TOP SCORING AVERAGES after all the Regional Competitions have been completed (some previous minor errors have now been corrected). These are all the teams that have average scores (using Qualifying Match data only) at 90 and above:

131 Points Average – Team 56 (Philly)
129 Points – Team 494 (West Mich)

When the national division lists get published, I’ll post a thread related to top scoring teams in each division - to give all the scouts a head start prior to Atlanta - factoring in the team’s standard deviation (a scoring consistency factor) as well as adjusting for Regional scoring average differences around the country (to level the teams up)….stay tuned.

Good luck to ALL Teams!

Re: Top 10 Scoring Averages "over 80" by Robot

Ah, so close yet so far... Team 639's qualification avg is: 88.75

... it'd be over 98 if we didn't have that 20-5 match when our decorative banners got caught in our drive :P

Oh yeah, our alliance average for the 12 elimination rounds we had to go through was 82.92
