Re: Mode of Transportation
Team 296 will be driving, that's right, driving, all the way from Montreal, Canada. It's 20 hours, but it should be fun, since we're going to set up our own inter-van wireless network and play games.
|
Re: Mode of Transportation
Team 237 will be taking a bus to LaGuardia then flying to Atlanta. We always take busses for regionals and fly for Nationals. Only once, during the first year of our team, did they take Amtrak home from Nationals.

Re: Mode of Transportation
X-Cats are flying directly from Rochester to Hotlanta ( No flight transfers!Thank God!) with Webster Sparx.
|
Re: Mode of Transportation
For anyone flying in and staying in the FIRST recommended hotels, the transit system MARTA is your most convenient way to get to your hotels. Just check out their website at: http://www.itsmarta.com/.
I hope that helps. |
Re: Mode of Transportation
Team 45 will be traveling in style to Atlanta in their very own rented School Vans!
I'll be driving down a bit later after I pick up a few bozos in Indianapolis in the Deejmobile. |

Have fun y'all--get to Nationals safe and sound !! |
Re: Mode of Transportation
The Miracle Workers are flying down to Atl. I wanted to take a road trip down but the cost of gas these days and a team that competes together should travel together.
|
Re: Mode of Transportation
201 is flying Northwest from Detroit to Atlanta. For the first time in 4 years, we actuall have a direct flight to Nationals. Amazing! Last year, we had a stop in Cincinatti, and the 2 years before, we had stops in, of all places, Atlanta.
|
Re: Mode of Transportation
I dunno 12 students and 13 mentors and parents BWI straight to ATL won't be so bad.

http://www.itsmarta.com/howto/special/frc.htm There is a special event pricing that the MARTA (local subway) system is offering for those who are attending the FRC Championship event in Atlanta. What you were supposed to do, is fill out a form and pre-order the tickets by a deadline about a week ago. BUT our advisor called a customer service rep. from MARTA and they said that they will honor these prices if you just order them the day you fly in at the MARTA ticket counter at the airport. Print a copy of that webpage for reference when asking for the tickets there though, just in case they have any problems. |
Re: Mode of Transportation
Thanks for sharing this information, BUT I have to ask, why weren't we all notified of this in advance via a FIRST e-mail blast or something???

Re: Mode of Transportation
A major change for our travel plans instead of flying out of BWI to ATL, we are flying out of National to ATL via Delta. Hey, ya go where the fares are cheapest and we found one.
And by looking at this poll no one has elected to go by train or any other mode of transportation? |
Re: Mode of Transportation

It does help thank you very much. Our lead mentor was looking for a transit and i think you found one for us. Marta is going to be quite busy these few days. LOL |
Re: Mode of Transportation
108's going by bus. Earlier this year, our team made a trip to Alabama for the BEST robotics regional, that was 14 hours and our odd bus driver thought going THROUGH atlanta would get us there faster. So during that trip, we hit atlanta around hour 12, so that's what we're figuring on for this trip.
Bus Law says: Do not fall asleep. [consequences: ziptied to the chair / shaving creamed head / makeup / pictures of you in compromising posistions]. I'm telling you, I've seen em all. If you wanna sleep, find a friend you trust and take shifts sleeping, the only way. Hotlanta here we come! |
Re: Mode of Transportation
Our team is bringing like 2 charter buses full of people. How many is every one else bringing?
|
Re: Mode of Transportation
We're going by bus. It should take 8 hours or so.
|
Re: Mode of Transportation
Our Team is going via Delta Airlines from Bradley.
|
Re: Mode of Transportation
After trying every airline avaliable and even trying to charter our own jet, we settled for the 13 hour bus trip, getting into Atlanta around 11PM on Wednesday.

All of you that are going to Atlanta by bus or car get to have fun, however the rest of us flying can't really do much without getting in some BIG trouble. Listen to CD players thats about it.

I beg to differ. We've managed to get one of the male stewards on the flight to hit on one of our soap guy students once, using the demo seatbelt. THAATTT was interesting. |

I hope everyone has a safe and pleasant trip. And if you fall victim of a midnight makeover let us know about it. LOL or if you got somebody really good send in a picture. It is safe to laugh at other people's misfortune. At least in this case.
|
Re: Mode of Transportation
This gives me an idea, but it will have to wait until my victim, err..unsuspecting friend is sleeping in his hotel room..I can't help but to laugh at the very idea, you know it's going to be good.

We have a plane ride, we were thinking of using zip ties to secure a freshmen to his seat belt by using his belt loops but there is just one problem. How do you get them off? remember this is a plane trip, so knives, cutters or anything like that aren't allowed. Any ideas???

Most of the Miracle Workerz are flying to Atlanta. In fact one of the planes we will be flying on is a 50 seater that is completly filled with MOE people. I feel sorry for the flight attendents and pilots of that plane. They will be immediatly blinded by MOE Green glare . It will be a bumpy ride with all the CHA CHA Sliding in the isles. :D

I would just say that i wanted to lock my suitcase but the security at the front desk wouldn't let me. Or what about duct tape or electrical tape. Either way it should be a good laugh. LOL |
Re: Mode of Transportation
Also remember not to bring wire cutters, strippers, allen keys, drills, drill bits, needle nose, etc. on the plane. We've also had problems with that too (bad SOAP_Mike and michele!)

7am flight out of SFO on 4/14 (good thing we're 30 mins max from SF)
As to the "B" word, what about the "G" word? Yay for talking about our school in the airport. Knowing us, we're going to mention the name of our school many times just to see what'll happen. Ah... The joys of going to a school that's named after some guy who has the last name of a weapon. That's always fun. And for things to do to team members when they're sleeping... During build, we usually duct tape them to wherever they're sleeping, i.e. floor, sofa. Or you can just put nail polish on their finger-/toe-nails when they're awake. If you do, make sure you have no nail polish remover with you. ;) |

And one other reminder for all traveling by airplane...
Take off your steel toe shoes before going thru the metal detector.. :sigh: Been there, done that, and got searched by the magic wand!!! |
Re: Mode of Transportation
That's nothing, one of our mentors Mr. Russell has two artificial arms. So on the trip to houston last year after one of the students complained about being searched Mr. Russell says," you think you have it bad i had to take off my arms." True story.
