Cost of Safety Glasses

I recently read a thread where a team lost about $200.00 worth of safety glasses. How much are you guys paying for them?

MisterX 28-03-2004 13:24

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

Most of our team provided safty glasses are about $8 or so but a small price for the protection of your sight and being allowed in the pits and on stage(plus when you wear safty glasses you are invincable). That is unless you are hardcore L33T and buy your own pair of S&Ws with the orange tints which cost more but are oh so styling.

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

I use yellow safety glasses that a guy from 3M game me. Well, not me specifically. He came to our school and gave a buchn of stuff out. They're sort of my trademark attire. My team makes fun of me for them. Point is, they were free. The rest of the team used saftey glasses borrowed from our partner-College. So, we dind't pay a single cent for saftey glasses this year.

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

We had some really um wierd looking safety glasses donated but some of us bought better ones on our own. Also this thread is in the wrong section.

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

I bought my own non-stupid looking ones from www.safetyglassesusa.com for like $7. We have a ton of those wonderful goggles known to science students everywhere, plus some random cheapo safety glasses (They work fine though :))

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

I wear glasses, so I bought a cheap $3 pair that were big enough to fit over my glasses.

At Drexel though, I saw a mentor on 103 that had simply taken two pieces of lexan, drilled two holes in them, and slipped them over his glasses frame to make "side shields" and no one had bugged him. Pretty nifty idea.

Wasn't there a team update which said that people with polycarbonate material lenses (like most people have nowadays) could just use side shields at competition? I have a ton of 1/16" Hyzod lying around so I'll probably be drilling holes into that ;)

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

Most of ours are seriously messed up from years of work and I wanted to go with a 'daisy' theme so i got some yellow shades from Lowe's for 10 bucks. I love the new perspective of seeing everything in yellow, its like summertime because everyone has a tan :P

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

We found some black and yellow ones that match the team for $4.00 per pair. And if someone didn't like them they can bring their own. And also the school supplies some as well. we bring those in case someone forgot or if a parent wants to come in the pits.

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

Is this thread in the wrong location?

Our teams main advisor is the wood shop teacher so we just use extras from the wood shop. I don't know how much they cost but we save them from each comp to use for the next.

Usually Lowes or Home Depot have decent looking ones. Just be willing to pay about 10 bucks a pair for them.

I got mine free. Of course my company probably paid $2-300 for them as they are perscription. (I never saw the bill) Not exactly stylish, but worth far more than I paid for them. Especially when they stop a chip.

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

I used a V-Force Shield paintball mask once, because somebody was using my safety glasses. It looked a bit silly, but at least I didn't get kicked out of the pits.

MisterX 29-03-2004 11:38

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

All those that say that they got there safty glasses for free have to understand that there is still a monetary value behind them even if you yourself did not pay for them. So if somebody stole like X safty glasses valued at $200 like in the scenario, even though you yourself didn't pay for them you are still losing that $200 of safty glasses

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

I just ordered a pair of nice looking glasses from www.safetyglassesusa.com . I'll probably get them in the next few days. In general, i've always been a supporter of the buy your own pair dealy with that kind of thing. That way you have your own pair and you are never led not to wear them for shame of wearing those big dumb ones. :D

I have regular glasses as well, and I just use the biggest ones I can find laying around the pit. Our team has about a billion pairs of safety glasses because our coach is a science teacher, and there are always new shipments coming every fall for the woodshop too. I think some of our mentors bring in a bunch too. I haven't noticed a big cost for our goggles anywhere...

I got mine from http://www.crewsinc.com/

They have a good selection, and the majority of them are priced under ten bucks.

We get new ones each year provided by our career center. They look cool, so the kids do not object to wearing them, Also can have some to go over the regular glasses. We get them at Direct Safety. They have several to chose from and not a bad price.

You have already started a thread about this. (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...threadid=49629)
Bringing back a thread from 2 years ago to advertise more isnt needed.

I know that the TechnoKats started handing out free "Stolen from TechnoKats" Safety glasses at the competition. We buy them at such a high quantity that it comes out to about $1.00 per pair. Correct me if I'm wrong Kyle or Andy.

Check out SamsClub.com

I bought a package of THESE for our team last year. They are nice wrap-around style and they are about $25 for 12 pair (got them at my local store). Search for Safety glasses at the Sam's Club site and you can find others for similar pricing, and even less (as low as $1.63 a piece, or even a 10-pack for $12.58).

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

As long as our team members are wearing safety glasses or side-shields during the competition, they can choose any brand they want. Our favorite series of safety glasses is the Aurora series by MSA, picked up at our local Home Depot. They were $9 for a pair.

http://www.msanet.com/catalog/product1397.html

These so comfortable to wear that you can sleep in them! (Literally.) A plus for us teenagers, they also look very cool!

Re: Cost of Safety Glasses

I have had probably at least 20 pairs of safety glasses just though my time in FIRST. I always seem to loose them or lend them to people either way I have tried many pairs. The point of all of this is that bang for the buck the best glasses I have ever had (and still have) are a pair of uvex Genesis. They are very comfortable, have replaceable lenses with many different tint/color options. They run about $8.00 but that is well worth it to have a pair of glasses that are so comfortable that you forget you are wearing them.

you can buy them here http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/genesis.html

We give a pair to every student as part of their dues for the team. We buy them from www.tasco-safety.com
The ones that we buy are the wrap around lenses and we have them customized with our team logo on the edge of the lens. They cost about $4.50 a pair with shipping.

I'm using mine in my chem lab this semester. Thanks TechnoKats! :D
Like Greg, I've been through at least a dozen. I usually just goto Home Depot or Lowes and spend $6-10.
