Ham Radio At Nats

I was woundering who if anyone has a ham license and if anyone would like for me to set up a freq. for us to meet on at the nats and some guidelines for that channel. I could also set up a low power cross-band repeater in my hotel room (prob UHF to VHF or the sort) if needed.
If anyone is interested let me know and I will start planning this or if you have some ideas let me know also.

my call: KC2FWL

I'm not going to nationals this year, but i would be interested in talking at regionals. Thanks for posting the WDW Info though, that's awesome. Anyone else interested?

We have at least three hams on our team.

We'll bring a handi-talkie.

Gil is the most famous in national amatuer radio circles- his call is KS4YX. He does a lot of contesting. Check his call on Google.

My call is KR4GZ.

One of our engineers (and I believe his son also) is a ham - I don't remember his call, but we always meet persuing one of our favorite activities (not counting FIRST) - attending Ham Fests. (For those not into amature radio, these are hugh electronic flea markets - and great places to obtain robot parts, computer components, test equipment, etc.)

Will you be at the nats this year?

Greg McCoy 22-02-2002 11:36

Do you really need a repeater at nationals? It seems like you could meet on 146.52 MHz and pick an unoccupied simplex frequency. Setting up a repeater down there might cause interference with Orlando's ham operations...

What kind of radios are y'all bringing? I'll probably bring my ICOM IC-T7H H-T.

Are there any hams involved with FIRST in the midwest?

RebAl 22-02-2002 12:30

it would be low power around 5w
Im bringing a alinco dj-g5 and dj-580 ht

Metalhugginman 22-02-2002 19:45

I will bring HT

Well, good idea but I hope we don't cause any robots to get confused. I will bring my Icom ICW4A HT and tune the simplex frequencies. I will also check the Disney repeater. I feel sure that by time the Naionals roll around we may come up with a plan. It is good to know that there are some Hams involved with FIRST Teams. Our Ham Club got the tour of Robot Central and a preview of things to come last October. Needless to say, they were all taken aback by the technology involved with the machine. Hopefully more hams will become involved in the coming years.

Ok, I will set-up a set of freq's and some ground rules both of which I will post as the nat's near, if you have any questions you can e-mail me (the bots are on 800 or 900 so we wont cause many problems hopefully:) )

Jon Lawton 23-02-2002 16:59

Count me in! KF6SLW... Bringing his Icom T2-A and Alinco DJ-560! :)

Joe Pernick 25-02-2002 13:53

I'll have a Yaesu FT-50

RebAl 25-02-2002 14:40

can you give me your call?

-anyone who posts please include your call I am making a list so I can make sure we know who is in our net, hopefully with us all I will make some kind of tag for people to come to us for info and we can radio out for an answer or something such as a score or weather info or something. Just a thought..
thanks:)

Should I ask FIRST, first? Just to get official permission?
Also which do you guys like better UHF or VHF?

I see no need. If you are properly licensed and using legal equipment to do something lawful there should be no requirement to ask permission from anybody.

As a courtesy, you may wish to consult FIRSTs technical people to ensure that your transmissions will not interfere with the competition.

But even if you did interfere they wouldn't be able to stop you. Of course the screaming crowds charging your transmitter position because of interference might change your mind about exercising your rights at that particular place and time...

"It is generally easier to ask forgiveness than permission." - an old boss, there have been so many I forget which one.

On second thought I don't know, but presume you do, what the regulations are for transmitting from private property. I assume the property owner (Disney) could prevent you from transmitting from their property if they wished. So if I checked with anybody it would be Disney.
