HS and college seniors: where are you going next year?

To all you highschool seniors/ college seniors out there:

Well I'm guessing most of you have your college/ grad school applications already sent in, and probably have heard back from a few. So where are you going next year, and for what major?

I'm going to UMAINE (Orono) for mechanical engineering

PS: If anyone else is going to UMAINE Orono please email me at FOLEYMAN327@aol.com

Well I'm off to join the navy. You'd be supprised at how many people are against it though... But they can all eat my shorts for all I care.:P

Re: HS and college seniors: where are you going next year?

joining the US Air Force sometime in the fall. something about going to lackland in texas in the summer for basic that just doesnt appeal to me. i will get some college credits there, and after i get out, or during it, depending upon the situation, i will go for my college degree, probably computer engineering or electrical engineering, and i might get one and work for the other later in life.

only regret about the USAF is that i might not be able to come back as analumni for my team, they are a sorry bunch of people, but they grow on you and i know i will miss it...

you know, i never realized what first did for me till i am about to lose it. hopefully i can rejoin later, but first years, rookies, make sure you make the most of your time, because you think its so far away now, but it goes quickly. cherish what you have and you should never have to look back in shame....

So far I've been accepted by UC Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, WPI, and Clarkson.

Rejected by UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, UCLA, UC Davis, and Cal Poly.

Waiting to hear from Stanford, University of the Pacific, Santa Clara University, and UC Berkeley.

I have been accepted to Cal poly San luis Obispo, San jose State University, San diego State University, Long Beach state University, and Cal State Northridge....all for mechanical engineering.....but luckily there are first teams near all those schools, so even if i leave the robodox i'll still b involved with first.

So, heard back from everywhere but Berkeley (which posts online tonight)

accepted to University of the Pacific, rejected by Stanford, waitlisted by Santa Clara.

Anyone actually know where theyre going? Most of us just have lists of where we've been accepted/rejected.

Accepted to WPI, RPI, and BU, with merit scholarships at WPI and BU.

Seeing as I've been, well, hunted down at two regionals by current WPI students, I'm not sure if I have any say in where I go anymore :-p.

Regardless of where I go, probably majoring in some sort of Computer/Electrical Engineering.

Yeaaaaaa Iannnn!! That's hilarious. My buddies got back from Philly and were like, 'yea so we talked to this guy with a WPI hat on at Philly, and he said he had already been confronted by others at LI.' We are everywhereee, hence the slogan "WPI was there..." (see 12 most notable developments to come out of WPI.. traffic engineering and suspension bridges and airbags and stainless steel anyone?)

And you better get used to Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), not the other way around if you are gonna be at WPI. (Learn those acronyms early! We've prolly got at least 200 of em!)

Ahhh!!!! They're still after me!!!

:-p

Yeah, at Philly it was kind of random, cause I didn't see them till they came up to me, at least at SBPLI I saw you guys wandering around all day so I wasn't surprised when you hunted me down. As for acronyms, well, English isn't my thing, so names don't mean much to me, as long as I learn what I want to learn ;-).

i didn't see an option for 'other' in there, but....

we need all the help we can get, not many people here have experience in FIRST...
in addition, our college of engineering is second only to UF

Accepted to NCSU (North Carolina State), University of South Carolina, and Tulane. I was planning on going to NC State since I receive a tuition waiver for graduating but I applied to some other schools just for the heck of it. Being accepted to college since November is a bad thing though (especially when its your first choice school). So I'll be @ NC State next year majoring in Mechanical Engineering. If anyone else is going to be at State next year drop me an email at bradshawaa@ncssm.edu . You are welcome to come mentor on my team (Team 900) which is only a short drive away.

I'm not sure if you're planning on entering an engineering program but there was a recent rumor that San Francisco State University may be cutting it's engineering college.

Re: HS and college seniors: where are you going next year?

There is more than just a rumor. My college and career counselor at school said that in one year they will eliminate the engineering program. Two days ago they cut quite a few other programs just to keep engineering for another year.

Advice to anyone wanting to go to school in CA:

Avoid state schools if at all possible. UC's arent as bad as state schools, but the budget situation is only going to get worse.

I've pretty much narrowed my choices to University of the Pacific and WPI. If it weren't for all the budget problems, I might look a lot more favorably upon San Jose State University.

From what I had heard, it seemed like a stunt by the college president to get more money out of the state legislature (give us more money or we'll cut engineering!). However, it doesn't seem as if the state legislature is willing to be threatened like that. It'll be interesting if it stays around (it'll also be telling if they cut engineering and leave in some more, shall we say, esoteric majors).

:ahh: You were accepted to Olin, and you are unsure of where you want to go!?!?! Oh, my! Without a doubt..... Olin! The experience within itself would be more than amazing, and if they don't have something that you specifically want to study, take it up in graduate school.

Seriously.... it would be a wonderful opportunity, I missed a chance at going just slightly. Best wishes to you, wherever you choose.

No, Olin's not yet accredited. Right now Olin only has a sophomore and freshman class (it's THAT new), and a school can only be accredited once it graduates its first senior class. Therefore, everybody that goes to Olin takes a risk; it's a low risk, as Olin was built on the suggestions for engineering schools and future engineering education from ABET (the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology). If risk-taking and trailblazing aren't your thing, though, Olin's not for you.

Jessica Boucher 24-04-2004 23:47

Re: HS and college seniors: where are you going next year?

And if you go to Olin, you get to use Babson's campus a ton (since Olin's in our backyard)...and I personally think it's pretty nice.

Furthermore, it'd be nice to see some CD-ers around :)

Well i'm down to 5 days to chose between Lehigh University and WPI. Both are excellent schools and each has pros and cons in different areas. It's a tough choice.

Wow, RIT, My cousin is going there now and paying $40k/year in-state.

As for me, I'm one of the weird people that is involved in FIRST, but not going to an engineering school. I'll be going to Georgia State majoring in Accounting (possible a dual-diploma @ GA Tech in Management), then going for my PhD in law at Georgia State.

San Francisco State: 1

With two still undecided.

No they aren't. From someone who actually pays to go to RIT, with tuition, room, and board, the total cost is somewhere around $30,000 per year (from looking at RIT's website it's $30,549). Now, most of the people I know are on some form of scholarship or other as well as financial aid. That said, RIT's also a private institution so there's no such thing as "in-state" tuition. RIT happens to be one of the cheaper private schools out there. About 6 years ago, when I was looking at colleges (was it really that long ago?), RIT was listed as one of the best values in the northeast.

Well thanks for the info. It's been difficult. And I got to say, I really enjoyed the rivalry between Lehigh and Lafayette because I like colleges sports. However, i've come to the decision that I will start at WPI because it will be easier to transfer out of should it not be what i'm looking for. The loss is... engineers playing sports. ;D
