Philly Regional

At the Philly Regional last week I heard a lot of talk that Drexel would not be the site next year, due to lack of space and the number of teams that want to come. It would be awesome to hold it at the Spectrum...I'm not sure if there are any larger venues at Drexel itself, but Drexel embodies FIRST. Anyone else hear on this topic??

What??? Drexel is the utopia for a FIRST event, from the crowded stands to the gorgeous park outside and 7-11 across the street. I woudn't be content competing in the spectrum or anything like that, because there's no place to chill. A parking lot? bleh. It has gotta stay at Drexel, comeon, you can't be serious.

There was talk about moving the competition to Drexel's Armory Gymnasium, just around the corner from the fieldhouse. The armory is supposed to be larger, but will need some renovations before it is available.

I herd from that they are looking into either the Armory Gymnasium wich is the more likely alternative pending constuction. Then they also looking inot the Wachovia Center which would be really nice but is a looooong shot but a really nice place to host an event.

I talked to Jim Moore from Drexel at the competition and also at the competition's advisory board meeting earlier this year about this. The state still owns the armory, but Drexel is working with them on a 3 year feasibility study to see what drexel may be able to use it for. So the chances of any move coming in the next year or so are very small.

Plus, I don't beleive that Drexel wants to give up the recognition of having it on thier campus.

I just came from the Philly Regional this weekend. During one of the speaches, one of the officials said that he would love to see us out grow the facilities @ Drexel next year. Weather that's a hint or not, I don't know, but it would be something interesting to deal with.
