Re: What have you given up for FIRST?
Sanity, hockey tournaments and practices (and the sport altogether now), sleep, sanity, homework, grades, having a life. But then again, robotics IS life. And that's just the point. You can find everything AND MORE in FIRST.

i totally agree-- this is my life besides dealing with IB-- and well that's a horror story-- but yeah i give everything up for FIRST-- it's one thing that keeps me happy and going in life |
Re: What have you given up for FIRST?
Do you have a LIFE to begin with? I mean.... does anybody's Head wants to explde like right after kickoff? I mean all the ideas and strategies.... mind overload. I think some people lose thier brains over the course of build season.

Re: What have you given up for FIRST?
I don't think I lost anything at all...

Re: What have you given up for FIRST?
FIRST effectively ended my short attempt at debate. (All of the competitions were on build days.)
And I couldn't work as much--our school starts late Wednesdays, so I was working Tuesdays. But that was a build night, too. And Saturdays I had to work later in the evening. Not my favorite thing, but I survived. That, and I couldn't do as many color guards for ROTC. |
Re: What have you given up for FIRST?
Sleep lost. Oh the sleep I lost, but it was worth it. -slumps over in chair-

Re: What have you given up for FIRST?
Money/a decent credit history.
time to study for school, since I had to get a job to support my habit (FIRST). Also I had to give up a job because they wouldn't leave me alone to do FIRST so I quit instead. but that's ok the things I have given up are nothing compared to the things that I have gained through FIRST. |
Re: What have you given up for FIRST?
Last year i gave up varsity softball :yikes: . My softball coach was pretty P.O'd at me, but oh well.

You are more important than FIRST.

You should really take a moment to think about that. You may not think so now, but later when you goto buy a house or a car, that credit rating will be important. School is important. Failing classes is a bad thing, especially at college where you are directly paying to learn. Going to every meeting might be important, but being able to finacillay support yourself is even more important. Some say that money isn't important, but it sure does make things easier. Jason Morella told a few of us volunteers at the LA regional in 2003 (after we treked down from the San Jose Regional the weekbefore) that missing alot of classes and losing jobs is not worth it for FIRST. You need to look after yourself, because how can you help support FIRST if you can't support yourself? Wetzel Wetzel |
Re: You are more important than FIRST.
Hmm...I don't like to think of it as "giving up"... all I had to do was prioritize. I found it possible to sleep, socialize, work, watch TV, study, exercise, travel, and hang out all in a day. All I had to do was fit in FIRST into my schedule. Sure, it may have left me busy, but having a tight schedule isn't always stressful, if you know how to manage your time and balance out your activities. Besides, it really does give you a feeling of getting the most out of life. So . . . I haven't really given up anything, I've simply adjusted my agenda, because although FIRST is important to me, I haven't let it interfere with my daily routine and prevent me from doing things I enjoy. That way I won't lose my sanity.

A life without motivation.

Re: What have you given up for FIRST?
most definitely sleep, but i gained alot of that in history and english class, :ahh:
Oh and i passed up a trip to D.C. but i could go up there in a weekend, instead i went with the team to VCU. One thing i didn't give up was NASCAR, the only meetings i have missed in the last two years on the team was for the Daytona 500. |
Re: What have you given up for FIRST?
Sleep, life, sanity, music, friends, girlfriends, But not my grades MUHAHAHA. There goes that sanity thing again. O well!
