Our team if offcially "breaking up into small groups" on wednesday(we fly in tues) but things i have heard are good are the Coke Headquaters, i went to the CNN center, and it was pretty neat, but short. Some of the malls are nice, although i don't remember what ones we went to (3 in one day.....)
Wish i could come with you guys to Six Flags, but i think my team leaves in the afternoon-time

There are plenty of places to go if you have transportation.
Stone Mountain about 20min from downtown. Nice park area, 4-d theater, tons of other things.
Dave & Bustersabout 15min food and games including VR
World of Coke in downtown a museum about coke and connected to the underground Atlanta shopping center (mall and food)
Tons of shopping any direction from downtown within 20 min

The braves don't play on wednesday, I believe we're going on either friday or saturday. Should be a good series against the Marlins, although I bet we'll all be too tired to really enjoy the game :P

Are you planning on having it carry on or putting it with your checked luggage? Remember not to lock anything since they do random searches of luggage and if it's locked they will break it open.

I was at Bradley back in June and they had someone several people in front of us take out a laptop and boot it up. Needless to say it would have inhaled audibly if the battery was dead or if it was removed from the laptop. I believe that was random too. I can't picture them having everyone turn on thier electronic items before boarding.
I flew to Chicago in June and when I opened my luggage at the hotel there was a piece of paper in there telling me that they had searched my luggage. It mentioned that if it had been locked they'd have broken the lock. Most airlines websites will also have information mentioning how certain things should be packed and what's banned for carry on.

Re: What are teams doing

well i was plaing on putting it with my checked bags because I have a big enough suite case that will fit a weeks worth of clothes, all my higene stuff, and my ps2+2 controlers+ all the hook ups+ my 6disk box game holder. which way would it be easier? with my bag or just put in another hand bag and take it as a carry-on

but its more fun when you cram 16 people into 4 rooms at night when there is nothing better to do and kick each other's arse's in a free-for-all... its fun just thinking about it... =D

Diet Coke is the official unofficial beverage of team 121, and I'm really hoping we get to go to Coke World when we arrive in Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon. Diet coke is the best! :D

Re: What are teams doing

I think you'd be better off putting it in your checked baggage and not carrying it on. Also with carry on some of those overhead compartments don't have much space especially when you have others in the seats near you.

Disclaimer:This is the opinion of Bridgette and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of everyone on Team 121.

Slurms, although not an actual drink, should be our official beverage..

Not play video game consoles in Atlanta? come on.. it wouldn't be a party without xbox. We had some very good Madden and Halo tournaments at UTC but I hope there is a better turnout at nationals. I guess I'll go bowling in Atlanta. That should be fun. I've got a lot of family there so I'm going to ask one of my cousins what there is to do...

384 will spend the day touring Coke, CNN, and the Underground on Wednesday. Look for us around the Omni Thurs-Sun. I want to meet people!

Re: What are teams doing

Ok so what did your teams dislike or like about where you went in Atlanta last year?

Here is what we did:

World of Coca Cola, I thought it was pretty cool, but it sure did not take long to tour. I liked tasting all of the different flavors of their products from around the world.

CNN, I thought this a big waste of money. It was basically a long escelator ride and then just look at our newsrooms.

Underground, It wasn't too exciting for me...

STONE MOUNTAIN, this was great. The only disapointing thing was the lift was shut down do to wind. It is a long walk up that mountain! This is a great attraction for sight seeing even though it is a bit of a ride 30 minutes?

We also went to a baseball game, but I personally didn't go because I do not like baseball.

Anything different that your teams did?

Tutti Fruiti is a flavor that should be locked away in a lab forever.

A little off topic: Did any one else find it particularly amusing that a Pepsi sponsored team won the championship in the hometown of Coke?

I don't know exactly what our team has planned.

I will say that what I look forward to most is just hanging out with people, meeting people, and frolic-ing about in the hotel. In the evening, it's a great time to get acquinated. w00t. - Genia

What other teams are planning on having X-box LAN parties, and what hotels will you be in? (yes, I know there is another thread for "where everyone is staying") My friends and I will be bringing x-boxes in the event that my team makes it to Atlanta. Just out of curiosity, what other teams will have wall projectors for their Chairman's Award presentation? ;)

I'll probably bring my laptop to use in my spare time, even though i'm not to "excited" about bringing it on an airplane and gettings it x-rayed and such. Cell phones are also fun to use to play games and chat on the internet.

Getting my laptop x-rayed fixed a problem I had with my cd drive somehow. It didn't work before, but worked after.

I'm pretty certain we are making plans to get a nice halo 2 game going on.. hopefully over 802.1b connections (I can use my laptop as a bridge, and one of my friends has a game adapter)

Re: What are teams doing

our team is leaving at 5:00 in the morning wednesday I think, and we're taking a charter bus down. we didn't want to take a plane because we like sitting with eachother for 15 hours on a bus... besides, we've yet to completly master playing card games on a bus. I think Dan said he was bringing his guitar, and the goodness of G rated movies from Disney...

Besides, it's fun to take pictures of a senior when he steals your beanie baby panther and sleeps with it... of course he took the picture and ripped it up and said Freshman need to be nice to their seniors... like that's going to happen... I argue with everyone on the team.

Does anyone know when and how long these places are open? My team is bothering me for times... If anyone has any answers they can log onto Team 74's Forum. People keep on asking me for times and all I can answer with is either "I'm too busy to find out" or "I don't know" or a combination of the two.

FYI: the link will take you directly to the thread.

Re: What are teams doing

I spoke with an employee at Stone Mountain last week. The park is open until midnight, howver they are not set up for their official season as of the Championships, so attractions may or may not be open. I inquired about hosting a teambuilding event during the evening, followed by their laserlight show. The show is not running then. The teambuilding would have been too expensive for our team, unfortunately. I sent them material about FIRST so they could try and arrange to have regular activities open when we are there next year.

The SciTrek science museum held special events for FIRST last year but I see they suspended operations in August 2004.
