After the day of competion practice we thought it be a good idea to go to underground atlanta. where we could shop, socialise, and be crazy robotics people like we are. we would like to see as many other teams there as possible heres a link to underground atlanta's site http://www.underatl.com/1a.home.html

last year at houston US (SwampThing#179) anD SPAM#180 Went to a mall in houston, and ice skated shoped ate and had a blast. we think this year we could have a much biggher get-togeather, We hope to see you there

Hey Tytus i was thinking along the same lines as of this since theres only going to be so much we all can do at the web hug and at the competition, i was going to try to do something like this. Though i have a better idea now, what if we got a pretty good head count on interested people and we all go out and meet there and have a huge FIRST dinner one of the nights, i think that would rock the undrground...

Well ... Underground Atlanta certainly isn't Disney World by any means. It is lined with clubs and bars, and I'm not sure I'd take a school group on a Saturday night, but usually it's reasonably peaceful.

It has actually cleaned up a lot in recent years and what you heard is probably a few years old.

I would definately love that. Everywhere weve gone this year I've been cooped up in the hotel pretty much. Love it. I also love being alumni now, I DONT HAVE TO ASK!

While im not going championship this year, sadly(our team chose not to go because half of our team couldnt make it, including me) i will be in atlanta for a field trip at coincidentally at the same time(the reason half the team couldnt make it). Im not when we're going to the undrground, but I hope to see some of you there. have fun at championships.

You guys are correct that it's not the best part of town. Personally, I wouldn't go there by myself, but in a large group you should be fine.

a large group of teeneagers all in BRIGHT! colored shirts easily spoted and acounted for. i would like to hear the opinion of somone who has actualy been there instead of second hand rumors

I've actually been there Tytus. I went there during the day, though, but it wasn't that bad. My mom, my girl friend, and I went with my brother and we were perfectly okay. I'm sure a huge group of us, with a majority of guys would have tons of fun. They have lots of good restaurants and shops and music. And we can all take pictures with the funky cows.

It can't be any worse than Clematis. Just don't linger away from the main stretch of restaurants and stuff.

My team and I would love to go but one of our parents just came back from a business trip from Atlanta and they went there and they said it was not a good place to go after dark so my team cant go.

Just make sure to keep it on thursday, cause there is a college get-together friday, and it will allow for more people. I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as we keep to ourselves. I know in NY city, a team member pointed out a guy wearing a superman shirt and went "hey it's superman", the guy followed us for blocks, swearing. So thats just an example of how it can be dangerous, but that is only if ur bugging others. Just try to be somewhat mature.

Yeah my team decided not to go... But we are going to the Atlanta Braves game vs the Marlins on friday night!!! Look for us on tv!!! You can't miss 75 screaming people wearing tie-dye and me wearing 100% tie-dye and over 250 buttons!!!

Team 836 should be at Atlanta underground thursday around 7:30-8:00. Gives us time to get back to the hotel rest change and be ready for some fun.

ok, i made a list of the teams planning to go as of now. it's saved on my computer as GA Underground. This is planned for Thursday night. It seems to me that from everyone's responses the best time to meet is around 7:30-8:00. Feedback for what time is best, and a place for everyone to meet is a great idea.

Yes there are but most of them are in bars or night clubs. however there will be street preformers at underground.

If we need to work on the bot we will only keep three students and one or two mentors and fix it. The rest of the team can have fun underground.

as for a time that ive been slow and reluctant to give. 7:00 to 11:00 because some like to start early and othes wont be able to even leave the pit's till 8

but sometimes you must make a sacrafice for the betterment of the team.
Example at vcu in our last match of the day we broke a worm gear. so instead of going to the team social three students including me and a mentor stayed untill the pits were closed and fixed it. by the time we got to the team social all of the food was gone. But it helped us to compete succesfully the next day.

no thanks necessary, it makes it easier on everyone. for those of you that are worried about being stuck in the pits, here is my suggestion. a) we all pick a place to meet at 7pm (seeing as we can't just meet in the underground...it's pretty big) b) we leave behind a small group of students until about 8:30 to meet up with those stuck in the pits until 8. leave behind an adult or college student so it's not completely unsupervised and we're still safe. get the cell number of a few people in the larger group, and when the guys from the pit crew arrive, pick a place to meet. someone in both groups will obviously need a map. just my 2 cents. =)

I'm terrible at directions, and have a lot on my plate right now, so looking for easy answer to give mentor who may take our team to this outing.

How far is it from Omni Hotel? We have no vehicles.

Just a quick comment to the ladies... I went there last time I was in Atlanta and if you don't watch what you wear, you definately get hit on by some "interesting" characters--though some of us don't really care. Since we're going on a Thursday til 11 it shouldn't be as bad as my Sat night/Sun morning experience, but just stay near the big guys on your team. If you can't find any of those, our team is willing to rent out Ryan to help pay for our travel costs.
