Divisions at Championship?
1 Attachment(s)
Attached is just my current prediction based on teams signed up right now and based on the same system I think they used last year. It is just a prediction which is likely to change if more teams are added and/or they use a different system.

Well, there still are more regionals to come, so this will obviously be changed.

Raul, I like this one. Division 2 is where it's at! 33, 45, 126, 254, 571 (and more) These are some of the strongest offensive machines in the country. If any 2 of them paired up, we'd all be in trouble. And, 229 gets to be next to one of our favorite pit-partners, Cyber Blue. |

Hey Vielkind-N,
We're in division 2, also. Better yet, we are right next to you in the pits, too. I don't think you have ever experienced being sooo close to the ThunderChicken coop before ... you will never be the same. -Paul |

Ohh jeez, how did I not notice that! I'm still recovering from listening to 234's chairman's speech alllllllll weekend in Houston last year ;). After that, I dunno if we're ready for the 217-kinda experience. I wish I could say there is a 229 experience... but it will probably just consist of our HS guys scoping out Thunder-chicks, and our college guys scoping out your robot. Ohh yeah... and we borrow stuff. ;) ...and usually bring it back. John (j/k 234... we loved bein' near you guys, and would love doin it again.) |
Re: Divisions at Championship?
In a lot of ways, Division #4 looks like a reprise of the St. Louis Regional.
|
Re: Divisions at Championship?
If your prediction is right team 836 is in division 2. Is this a good thing?

Thats not necessarily true... Raul made these predictions using the system they used last year, (which was kind of obvious how they did it :p)...and whats to stop them from using it again? I think he is right as long as no new teams qualify this weekend, and even if they do qualify, FIRST just might tack them on the end and start another 1-4 run... |
Re: Divisions at Championship?
division two has two of the three FL winners... 61 and 945! Hopefully this is true.. but it probily will change becuase the winners from this weekends events have a chance to enter
|
Re: Divisions at Championship?
D2 also has two of the UTC winners if these are reallythe divisions
id say say that the national winner would deffanitly be out of this division how nice would it be to see 571,45,33 all on the same alliance  one can only dream |

Re: Divisions at Championship?
Last week in Philly, we spoke to the FIRST rep and asked when the division list would be released. His response was that it won't be released until after the last regionals, because they want to make sure that the teams in the top aliances from each regional were split up. This leads me to belive that they aren't just using the 1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4 system again, at least not in its raw form.
Personally, I'm not sure that I like the fact that teams which have proven that they work well together are being split up, but that is what FIRST has decided to do. |

67 scored the top score in the nation with Webster Sparx and scored the top score of the qualifyers with us. I don't think they could win a match on their own but they would be a tough out. Many of the teams at the championships are able to adjust. That's how they got there in the first place. |
Re: Divisions at Championship?
I know that 852, one of the teams that qualified at SVR, will not be going to Nationals. They can't afford it. At least that's what they told us.
The proposed division 2 is awsome. |
Re: Divisions at Championship?
i know 759 isnt going even though the won the NYC regional
|
Re: Divisions at Championship?
Team #759 is all the way from the UK. They would need to gather several sponsors (or money, whatever comes first) in a short amount of time if they are to go.

Re: Divisions at Championship?
Even dead robots can do something. But that's just my opinion. Any who if the championship continues with it's two year pattern, the division we are in should win the whole thing. Really it is quite freaky but we have been in the winning division for our whole two years of existence. Not sure of any other team with that pattern. Being good with ANY team is how you win period. Look at 111 last year or 16 (any year), they consistently win with any team they are with. I've only been driving for 3 years but that is my two cents.

Re: Divisions at Championship?
Yeah that is true but beating a top 5 team with an alliance partner that's ranked like 10th and you and your partner are like 27th and 62nd then THAT is golden.

Re: Divisions at Championship?
Because I have a lot of time on my hands, I did some analysis of the divisions:
Division 1 has 15 regional champions (233, 279, 303, 313, 322, 340, 364, 381, 457, 492, 537, 938, 977, 1030, and 1057). Division 2 is absolutely loaded. They have 20 regional champions (5, 33, 45, 56, 61, 66, 114, 126, 176, 229, 254, 284, 314, 398, 571, 716, 945, 967, 1031, and 1405) including 3 who have won 2 regionals (5, 33, and 254). Division 3 is the one my team is in. It has 13 regional champions (47, 67, 177, 230, 311, 330, 389, 449, 522, 930, 957, 980, and 1114) and one team that lost twice in the finals (222). Division 4, I believe, already has a clear winner. The division has 11 regional champions (16, 237, 269, 388, 501, 585, 662, 982, 1002, 1212, and 1369) including one who has won 2 regionals (16). As I still have "March Madness" I am going to make my final four picks right now, based on the captains of the winning alliances. Division 1: 303 Division 2: 254 Division 3: 449 (or if you want a non-partisan pick: 311) Division 4: 16 I make these picks without ever seeing most of these teams compete. But in all seriousness, does it really matter? This is Max Wasserman, Blair Robot Project. Now back to Sportscenter. |
Re: Divisions at Championship?
Nice work.
Though, I disagree that just because one team has won multiple regionals that they'll do exponentially better than any of the other regional winners. Regional wins are partially mutually exclusive of one another, and it depends on the teams that are at that regional. Why I say partially is because you have to assume that regionals that are close to a general area of teams will have basically the same teams at them, and because of that 2 regional wins from the same general area, though admirable, is less impressive than say, bicoastal regional wins. What's great about the competition size is that teams with even one regional win will still be highly regarded, because of the size of the divisions. I personally feel that for fairness purposes, the divisions should have a more equal number of regional winners in them than what we assume it will be now. But if they dont, hey, thats great news for those other divisions, because it will be easier to climb to the top of their division, and once the finals happen, you won't have to deal with many of those teams from Div 2, since they will have already knocked eachother out. |

Re: Divisions at Championship?
Time for explanations:
First, sorry to all the teams I accidentally omitted (1126). My bad. Second, I wasn't quite telling the truth when I said I hadn't seen the teams I picked in action. And when I say I wasn't quite telling the truth, I mean I totally lied (but for comedic effect). I saw team 303 at Annapolis. We played with them and against them. They're very good. One team I talked to (whose identity I will not reveal) said that their most hated team was 303. And when a lot of teams hate you, you MUST be good. I watched the Silicon Valley webcast. Through blurried and un-buffered images (darn you dial-up) I think I saw team 254 doing very well. Or it could have been a can-opener. I don't know. (I have got to get DSL.) I know absolutely nothing about team 311 except that they won the Long Island regional and they're in the same division as their good friend team 1114. And that could mean something in the elimination rounds. Now as for team 16, my team (449) partnered with them. Not in the qualification rounds, but in the tournament. We were both on the winning alliance. Trust me when I say they're awesome. Third, nobody should pay attention to my analysis. My picks are guaranteed to be wrong. I'm so inept, I picked Pittsburgh to win the NCAA Tournament. They almost got to the Elite 8. That's all I have to say right now. I'm actually considering making a tournament pool at Atlanta. Of course, I will have to get around that no gambling issue. |

i didnt see this point but i might have missed it, but the best teams can often end up losing, at palmetto the 8th place team almost won in the finals, and the number one team they beat early on, in my opinion, was the dream team of the tournament, so upsets are almost a guarentee....maybe we will be one of those upsets *fingers crossed* -read over my message, and before anyone is offended, the 8th seeded team was awesome and i enjoyed watching them play, i was trying to point out that highest see does not = win- |

Re: Divisions at Championship?
sorry to get off topic, but as i was reading this i too want to know a bit more on this system they had last year with choosing divisions. when FIRST uses that 12341234 do they start at the lowest numbered team and count up or do they just start somewhere in the middle and go full circle?
|
Re: Divisions at Championship?
Quote:
If Im not mistaken, last year they started with team 1 and went 1234 1234 all the way through the list |
Re: Divisions at Championship?
I don't really mind. Our team will do well, as long as it is allied with a good, strong hanger/auto ball dumper
Although I still wish we were in division 1, to form "the old alliance" - 27,111,461 Now that the autonomous on all three is working well, I don't see how we'll lose -------------------------- If I see John-V-Neun on one more person's "info" who isn't the REAL John-V-Neun I'll go CRAZY!!! :ahh: btw, who is John-V-Neun and what is he idolized for? |
Re: Divisions at Championship?
The system was different 2 & 3 years ago. 2 years ago they lined up the teams from 1 - ... & the first 10 or so from each row went to 1 division, the next 10 went to the 2nd division, the next 10 to the 3rd & the last 10 to the 4th. They repeated this for each row and that was it. (if my memory serves me right.) I can't remember how they did it in 2001 & I know there weren't divisions in 2000. That was a fun year. I'm not sure if we ever really thanked 22 for picking us way back then. If not, thanks.

OK folks, here is my new predictions for Divisions. There are now 294 teams scheduled to go to Atlanta.
Div 3 looks scarry to me - I hope I am wrong. |
Re: Divisions at Championship?
I like the new listings. Although I wouldn't count on them, we are paired up with both of our partners from Cleveland in Division 1. Division 3 does look pretty rough, the rest of us could only hope that they beat each other up too bad to face any of the other divisions. Did you go through & look for Regional Champions or Finalists, that probably isn't worth doing until the "real" selections come out.
Thanks for putting this together, its fun. |
