this is how im thinking we run this thing.

We could get some hosting (i could provide it for now) On which, we could be running 2 SQL databases. One would be for team data, the other for user data. Then you can link certain users to certain teams and set up some kind of system for scoring. This whole thing would be run on its seperate entity, say www.fantasyfirst.com or something. We could get pit Bull 1126 to work on the info part of the site, and me and a few others would do the programming. You would be able to log in to the site, and check all of your stats and stuff

just an idea..

I finally got the paper uploaded.

Note: I am NOT using this for my pick list, only as a last resort for when I haven't seen a team. Please refer to my above post.

If you have ever played fantasy sports before basically you choose three robots from the list of teams at the championship and you basically add up wins and losses from your three robots and the cumalative scores from their matches. The alliance with the best record (with highest score as the tie breaker).

ok this is what i have for how its going to be run...

Teams will be scored on their win/loss record
They will get an "score" - percentage of wins (ex 3 wins 1 loss - 75%)

Users will pick 3 teams
The average of those 3 teams scores will be that users score

With 92 people picking, a meager 25 team list is gonna go real fast.

I'm planning on making a list that consists of EVERY SINGLE TEAM going, ranked in order. (Just in case... heh).

that would be great.. i will throw that in the "Team" table.. then each team wil have a win/loss record that can be edited by a mod

Suggestion for the draft:
While you are at it with the random number assignments, you should get a second set of random assignments. The first round can be the first assignments, the second round can be the first round picks inverted, and use the second set of assignments for the third round. Just so everyone has a little more of a chance, and there is much less possibility that someone has the last pick in two rounds. Whoever that would be would be shafted, having the last pick in the first round and the last pick over-all.

No.
Do the foward to back and back to forward otherwise there is a chance the guy with the first pick could end up with the first pick in every round. That wouldn't be fair.

About the rep points for awards (I don't feel like searching through all these pages for a quote):
Someone's rep points will increase mighty fast if everyone playing gives them rep points. However, I know someone will forget or ignore fantasy first if they realize their teams didn't do very well. But it has the potential of skyrocketing someones reputation.

Eh.
Rep is more about popularity than it is about a person's status in FIRST.

That would not happen. I stated that you can flip the list for the first and second rounds. And it will make the third round more fair to do it randomly, because then one person does not have a good chance of ending up with the first pick in the first and third rounds. But flipping the list for the first and second rounds would keep it fair...the first pick would get the last pick in the second round.

I disagree. Almost everyone with high rep points on CD is highly regarded in the FIRST community. Most of them are very active and have been for many years, they volunteer, and help many people out by mentoring and such. This dedication has led to their popularity on the CD forums. I agree that they are popular, but that is because they are dedicated FIRSTers. I know I respect anyone with lots of rep points.

I won't make it obvious by stating the team number or ranking (in order to hopefully be able to pick them), but one of the VCU winning alliance partners is ranked in the bottom 5th of the list that JVN posted. Showing that that list won't always give you a good look at many teams.

This contest isn't about who is gonna win nationals. This is about who is going to win the most matches.

If a team goes 0-8, then gets picked by some powerhouse, and ends up winning nationals, they still aren't a GREAT pick for this.

Though... they'd be a good pick for the actual competition ;)

But you're right.
Statistics tell whatever lies you want them to. When it comes to FIRST picking, I stay away from them. There are better ways to gauge a FIRST team.

John

Tyler is right. After an even number rounds, the average drafting positions of everyone is the same. However, when you have an an odd number, whoever drafted first, has a distinct advantage over those who drafted last. Making it random can only help to even out that last round.

ok heres an example of how im setting up the scoring

JVN Picks: 254, 11, 237
Koko Ed Picks: 571, 195, 16

Wins get 2 points
ties get 1
losses get 0
easy enough?

Code:

Rounds:
Team    Wins    Losses    Ties    Score
11        6        2        2      14
16        4        6        0      8
195      10        0        0      20
237      9          1        0      18
254      7          1        2      16
571      7          2        1      15

In this case, JVN would have the cumalative scores of: 254(16), 11(14), and 237(18)

16+14+18 = 48

Koko Ed would have: 571(15), 195(20), and 16(8)

15+20+8 = 43

JVN Wins

Even though koko ed has the best team, 195, he still looses because john's alliance was better overall

does this seem fair?

Re: FANTASY FIRST

...wow ive spent the past hour or so doing picks and this is a whole lot harder than it seems....

thanks to _______ (insert whose name should go here) for the list of the people in order....made picks easier because everything starts to look the same after a while....i have my preliminary pics but ill be redoing them probably right up until the picks start....

anyway just wondering what peoples top picks are gonna be because outside of the top like 10 its a bit difficult (i couldnt resist putting my team at the top tho...were only 75 so its not too much of a stretch right?)

this thread is getting QUITE long so maybe we could start a differecnt thread for talking about top teams or somthing because otherwise people aren't going to be able to find stuff and it is gonna be all confusing. Just an idea

Re: FANTASY FIRST

I hope we can get this to be real professional next year. Maybe even our own user sections to check out our picks. Maybe we could even have a bidding system, I don't know how feasible that would be.

Joe Ross 05-04-2004 10:12

Re: FANTASY FIRST

I think you should start a waiting list, because I'm sure several people will not remember that they signed up, or will miss the draft, etc.

Re: FANTASY FIRST

Hey ed i think i have a program that would help you out for the web site you want to build. IT would let you pick teams for a draft even if you are not around to be able to do so. If you want more info on it e-mail me at nuggetsyl@aol.com

FANTASY FIRST for the 2004 CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT is now FULL! We are sorry if you did not make it in on time, but only 90 spots were alotted. If you are still interested, please come back next year to the official (yet to be done) FANTASY FIRST WEBPAGE. There you will be able to register for a full season of FANTASY FIRST
thanks

TOM- know what you’re talking about
1st:dont talk about things you don’t know.
2nd: there are now 287 teams singed up for the regional do some math we will be able to have 95 people play as of now.

So that would mean that there is stillroom for 5 more people. Also there are some "saved" spots were people have not yet gotten back to us. SO TOM THAT WOULD MEAN IT IS NOT FULL

5 More people are still able to join. After Which there will be a watieing list.
