Curie cures your problems!

Hey this is the place for all Curie Division teams. Discuss strategies with fellow division teams and make new friends.

Also let's all try to get together to make the largest cheering section at Nationals. Our team has a ton of cheers to use. Let's make it the loudest Nationals yet.

Also, shout out to SVR alliance members, 47 and 114. Let's try to meet up again since we are in the same division. :D

Re: Curie Teams

I just want to let everybody know that Nationals is going to be a lot of fun, and I cannot hardly wait! I wish everybody (especially in the Curie Division) the best of luck at Nationals! :)

I am also glad to see that Teams 126, 166, and 175 will be staying at the OMNI with us (hopefully I have not missed anybody)! Maybe we can do something fun at the hotel or something.

I hope we get that overly enthusiastic announcer that does flying kicks and punches when introducing the teams for matches like last year (I think he dyes his hair blue).

Again, welcome to Curie, and good luck teams!

codeoftherobot 07-04-2004 00:47

Re: Curie Teams

Mark Leon is his name. He does all of our West Coast regionals and more. Probably the most enthusiastic announcer in all of FIRST with his boxing-fight style team introductions and his somersaults (did one during the break-dancing competition at SVR). :D

Hey CrazyBear

You did forget one thing

The deciding colors of NYC Reg. will be re-united in the curie division

BTW: For all you west coast teams. Us East coasters will be kidnapping Mark Leon so that he may bring excitment to our part of the States. This is a negotiable Kidnapping. 60 Dozen Krispy Kremes Donut Combinations must be put together in individual baggies. Upon Receipt of KK.you will recieve Mark Leon and is crazy tactics in making the regionals the best place to be. Dunkin Donuts will not be accepted!!!!!:) :] :D ;)

Good or bad news depending on how you look at it: 967 (my team!) has been in the winning div. for two years straight. I always got a funny feeling at nats that the div. would win and I am having it again. :ahh: 967 is the only St. Louis winner in our div. from the alliance so it should be interesting seeing all the diferent teams. Isn't 233 really pink?

Re: Curie Teams

YAY CURIE!!!! Someone from Curie will WIN THE NATIONALS!!! YAY! Team 1114 is in our division (hopefully another alliance). This is my first nationals (we qualified for the finals last year but weren't allowed to go because of a travel ban by our school board) :( Well, it's going to be AMAZING.

we're going to have so much fun at nationals!! its my first year on the team and i'm sooo excited; i cant wait! good luck to everyone (not just teams in Curie division but to teams in all of them!) but realize that this isnt really about winning or losing, but just having a great time with your newfound friends and celebrating how much you've accomplished in such a short time. i think everyone who even has had some sort of part in robotics is already a winner... it means you're making the right decisions in life and youre destined for greatness. ^_^

and going off of what CrazyBear said... Curie division: prepare to behold the power of PINK!!! :D

Out of curiosity, did anyone read the post about the psychological affects of different colors? Apparantly, the color pink has the ability to calm down even the most aggressive personalities (i.e. prison inmates).

How much pink will be there? (people) As for everyone else, how many people are you bringing?

Team 967 is bringing 92 people, on 2 buses, all the way from Iowa, not counting fans already in Atlanta, so almost 100 will have the Black and Red on! We've got hard hats, guess what, they're red. :o

Let me just, say that the Curie division is going to take home the Nationals. There are a lot of formidable teams in the other divisions, but I am sure that they are no match for the skills that we posses.

With that off of my chest, let me add that MORT (#11) is planning on bringing down anywhere between 50-75 sutdents + approx. 10 mentors and 15 parents. After our first championship ever at Palmetto (thanks to team 122, and 281) we are looking forward to this National Event more than any other in our history.

One week seems like so far away, but blink and it'll will be upon us. We'll see you all at Nats!!!

It sounds fantabulicious everyone! I'm not sure how many 461 is bringing at the moment but I think it hits somewhere between 60-75 and above. -_-. Not everyone was at the meeting for this last night so I'm not certain. ^^ If anyone wants to trade shirts let me know. And hugs! Find me and give me hugs! I'll be wandering around cheering every single team (it's my reputation :P) and giving them out. Yay for advertising! Curie 2004 Represent!

Glad to see so much excitement about the Curie division. I did a quick check and it looks like we have 48 teams in the division that were top 20 seeds in their regional comps. Some were seeded top 20 in multiple regionals too. Should make for an interesting week.

For a good summary of what our robot does, check out this thread...

http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=26615

We've been incredibly conisistent at our last two events, hanging in 27 out of our last 29 matches. We've also been very successful at capping the stationary, which we did in our first 7 matches in Toronto. (We never tried to cap during the elimination rounds)

I'd say our greatest asset is our ability to control the bar. We can hook to the bar, then strafe side to side to defend. It's a pretty neat move.

I'm really excited about our division. We may not be garnering as much attention as the other three divisions, but I think there are more than enough top teams for Curie to form a powerhouse alliance.

omutton 08-04-2004 11:37

Re: Curie Teams

1114 definately has a quality robot. Their best feature is obviously the fact they can consistently hang. Their robot is the type that I think will win the nationals. They can cap and hang and will probably go all the way in the Curie division.

hey in atlanta when we get a chance i can get alot of people form my team to join your and we can skip/clap around the whole stadium.
and maybe you guys should do a morning exercise too, get alot of teams involved, just gimme the word and i'll be there.

WOW! im soo jealous of this amazing division. all i can say is that you all better watch out for that 1114 machine. it is THE definition of greatness (well in my eyes anyways). but in all seriousness the simbotics machine is the epitome of the balance between versatility and power. i wish we were in this division so we could finish what we started in mississagua but alas, itll haveto wait untill next year...

good luck to everyone who must face the simbotics machine, youll be in for a suprise. those crazy kanucks ( jk guys :D) are always pulling something out of their sleeves.

and of course id wish good luck to simbotics but they make their own.

All right, morning exercises! Just have one giant fitness expo. "Robotics? What's that? We're here for the warm-ups!"

Yeah let's try to get that cooridinated for the skip/clap. Our normal "exercise guru" won't be there but we'll find a replacement. Maybe we should try to get the entire stadium to follow?

You guys should also try what we down here in FL like to call The Jig. We'll show it to you when we get there, but basically all you have to do is hop twice on one foot then twice on the other and keep switching back and forth untill your legs collapse. :D

We are in Curie. Unfortunately for us, our Chesapeake champion partners (16 and 1405) are in other divisions. Oh well. I thought I through in an underdog into the mix of possible champion teams.

1319 - The Golden Strip Flash. They've done very well at the two regionals they went to (Chesapeake and Palmetto). They do better every time and I wouldn't be surprised if they go all the way to the final four.

Also, don't forget about us, 449. We won the Chesapeake regional, our autonomous mode is fixed (it didn't work at the regional), and our chin-up, in my opinion, is one of the most accurate out there. But enough modesty...

Good luck to all.

Ok, at first when talking to our coach he gave me the original number so, I apologize for that mixup. And as for my comment about the power we posess, I wasn't talking about our team specifically, I was refering to the division. Teams 47, 61, 103, 233, 449, and 1319 just to name a few, with these powerhouses in our division I'm sure that Curie is taking the Nationals this year. Sorry if I sounded arrogant at first, it wasn't my intention.

Team 57 chose and led alliance #2 to victory at the Lone Star Regionals. We have a robot that hangs from the side...we hung every time except for once at Lone Stars. We have the ability to bring down other hanging robots, as long as they are near us on the bar.

For those who were at the Great Lakes Regional...we had a handicapped robot because a gear in our tranny kept stripping and we were stuck in low gear. Luckily, this was fixed in time for the Lone Star Regional.

I look forward to meeting all you guys and gals, as well as the l33t machines that we have managed to come up with. Good luck to all.

Re: Curie Teams

Curie is certainly going to be a lot of fun again this year. Last year, 343 (with 25) emerged from Curie and came within a whisker of winning it all. The division finals in Curie last year were some of the toughest matches I've ever seen. We were partnered with 87 (Curie again also) and 650 against the 343 alliance. By the time the dust settled, 25 was using a pry bar to get "unbent" and we needed a rather large hammer and a significant amount of force to reset an arm. Those were fun times, but looking at the 2004 list it should be every bit as exciting.

11, 22, 34, 47, 61, 66, 87, 175, 233, 343 ... the list goes on and on....
15 Regional Winners, four #1 seeds, 32 top-ten finishers, four hall of fame teams...

See you all very soon.

Ok after doing some research by both sitting with and participating with this is what i got thus far

CHIEFDELPHI - THE ORANGEST / BLACKEST TEAM EVER HERD AND SEEN - Anyone who tries to challenge CD's Team Spirit will fail. They are the most Team Spirited Team out there. You would have better chances in being one with CD then to be against them :-) I know this from the 2001 NYC Regional Experience. If I had to let MOE and CD do a Spirit Contest CD would win the Cheers part and MOE would only walk away with the Noise Makers part. :) However as years go by MOE will eventually beat CD in a undeclared Spirit Contest:p

Thank you very very very much for the wonderful compliment towards our team. We are going to be louder than ever at Nationals, whether we may win or lose. Everyone can always join in on the fun. :D Let's make the Curie division the loudest to our possibilities! See you there....

You should do a general search on here for 989. Also, check out Team 108, the SOAP Website has information on teams and their performance from the different regionals.

I'm not sure who the MC for our field is this year but I just found out that I will be announcing. Last year we had the best (lost by a hair in finals) and loudest field in Houston. If Mark Leon is back as MC I know he will have a small wager on winning against Archimedes Field. He lost last year but now is the time to even it all up. WE ARE # 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!! Any Questions?

In case anybody needs help in the pits, you can come over to 233's. We'll be more than happy to help anybody that needs it. That goes for teams in any division. See ya in the pits.

Do you know what Division you are MCing in or who is MCing Curie division?

I am announcing on Curie. I was not told who the MC was. It seems that they are using the same people on the same fields as last year. If so and Mark Leon comes then he will probably MC. I'll find ou Wednesday.

That is totally sweet because Mark Leon is the shizzle. Nice to hear that our announcer is from Canadia. We need see more international teams, eh?

Ay that's true. How many teams from our neighbors in the north are in Curie Division?

Team 845 (at least some of us) will be haning out at Nationals on Friday. We'll most likley be haning around Curie since that's where our sister team 343 is going to be. Not to mention one of the absolutley coolest teams I've ever had the pleasure of knowing: 233. I'll be travelling around the other devisions to see my friends at SPAM and ComBBat. But I will be hanging around Curie the most. Good luck to all teams! By the way if I can I'll be bringing a camera, so I want to take many pictures of/with people from different teams! :D

See you there!

YAY CANADA!!!!@ Team 1006 will be loud and proud in the Curie Division. We will be handing out Canadian Flags!

Re: Curie Teams

On the flight to Atlanta, I was thinking about all the discussion pertaining to what division the eventual National Champion may come from.

If the National Champion Alliance was to come from Curie (and I think all Curie Teams hope that happens), that means they would need to beat some formidable alliances from the other divisions.

Hypothetically (and in fun), what game plan and strategy would you propose that the successful Curie Alliance would employ to beat another powerhouse alliance that was made up of, say, 254 and 67 (purely hypothetical OF COURSE!) that collectively are capable of an offensive assault of 200+ points?

Thats easy, lost and lots of DEFENSE. That finals at nats tend to usually be defensive.

Hey Curie, Congratulations! You all rock, and I think that just needs to be said. Thank you for all your talent making mine among many other peoples' first championship event so fantastic. I saw some of the most amazing intellect and skill and spirit in the world here, and I probably gave you all hugs too. So congratulations all of Curie.

and going off of what CrazyBear said... Curie division: prepare to behold the power of PINK!!! :D

THINK PINK did awsome this past week! did great... and i loved that match we won when we were both turtles on our backs lol...

THANKS 279 and 66

So, nationals are over, and it was a great time, but it clearly would not have been so without the great alliance partners Team 279 and Team 66 over in the Curie Division. First and foremost, I want to thank you for selecting us as one of the alliance partners. It really and truely was a pleasure to work with all of you out there on the field. As an alliance I think we made the best decisions which resulted in top notch performance. We had a great Curie Division run and were really able to show people what we could do when we were paired up together. Thanks for the great opportunity, the great memories, and the hardware. Great effort, great strategy, great people, that's what this alliance was all about.

Thanks again!

I'm going to concur. This was my third competition driving, and I really appreciate 279 and 66 for picking us--you guys are awesome. I think the machines complimented each other well and the alliance was one with excellent teamwork. Best of luck in the future, guys, and I hope to see you around and perhaps team up with you again.

Ditto here. Considering that 2/3 of the alliance were the Great Lakes Regional winners, it was awesome.
Thanks so much 279 and 461.

Just think if our arm did not break we would of hung and you guys would of have gotten a score of 250 points

Sorry about putting 233 and 126 on your back. it was fun to watch but after all that, we still didn't win. go figure. 126 score so many balls quickly that it was hard to over come

we got a 15 points taken away. they said the robot went in to the ball coral and then the last ball to go in was after the buzzer. we still think both of those are bogas calls but o well

THANK YOUS

I know its a bit late to do this, since other team members have already done it, but I would like to give a HUGE thank you to teams 279 and 66. It showed that the best alliance IS a fast hanger and a small ball/big ball manipulator. Together, 279, 66, and 461 completed almost every objective on the field, and even if we didn't win the Nationals, we did GREAT!!! (plus, we came Pretty Close)

Anyways, a HUGE Thank you to teams 279 and 66

I will post more thank yous later :D
