Re: sleepers fro nats
i like the idea of sleepers for nats.. there are always some at regionals, but they definitely have the chance to shine with no one or two "super alliances" breaking out and dominating as so often happens.
i would bust out and choose some teams but i really havent been able to watch any regionals in detail. too much stuff in my mind to keep track of. |

Re: sleepers for nats

My sleeper picks: 710 312 108 (so I'm a little biased) 461 21 ...that's all I can think of right now. |

Thanks, but would we be a sleeper finishing in 2nd place twice? 177. They won one already but they had to tweak after thier first regional. It was like the first regional all over again for them. They took off the big arm. They know what game they play now, and who to be with. Look out. 484 Mad potential, just have to fix the top assembly falling to the floor. 1391. Personally I just love the MOOSE. Great rookies. Didin't win anything yet, but I have faith. |

I also believe that any team in the finals or any 200 + scores will be big. I dont know names and therefor they are sleepers. Just my recent thoughts. |
Re: sleepers for nats
I don't know if they would be considered a sleeper, but 980 has a great robot.

Thank you very kindly. 108 promises not to disappoint our followers ;). |
Re: sleepers for nats
there was a similar thread dealing with underrated teams. And yes, I too think 1391 can do some damage at nats.
|
Re: sleepers for nats
It's going to be the teams that no one expects to win that are truly the sleepers. You can't predict who they are really going to be, but it's amusing to do nevertheless.

Re: sleepers for nats
i say it doesn't matter. good luck to all teams, underdogs or not. you never know what's going to happen and you never know what kind of alliances will succeed and how they will fare against other divisions. i wish everyone the same good fortune and the same amounts of fun at nationals, and i hope that, whether or not your team wins or loses you come away with something bigger than a medal.

I see the 2003 National Finalist alliance is in your sleeper pick (343, 25, 494). I haven't seen our friends from 25 yet this season, but would agree that 343 is strong again. You are very kind with your comments. Thanks. |

I'll have to agree there. We paired up with them at the MWR finals...and I don't think I've seen many robots that are better ball collectors or cappers than them. --they were also my 1'st Fantasy First pick....so they must be good :p |
Re: sleepers for nats
1319
1403 11 (at least until they won a regional) 1218 Xavier You notice how I restrained myself from mentioning my own team. WILLPOWER!!!!!! |

Re: sleepers for nats
I really hope we are a sleaper. At least we think our robot will move and not shatter the gearbox.
|
Re: sleepers for nats
I think all the rookie teams are sleepers. In my 5 years I've never seen rookies make such an impact. They are very competitive this year.
|
Re: sleepers for nats
Sleepers to me are teams that have some kind of hidden talent that if poked, encouraged, or annoyed will explode into great success. My only pick is 1272. Don't let the cute purple and neon green robot fool you.
|
Re: sleepers for nats
My ultimate sleeper pick....
...Ken Leung. :D (sorry! it had to be said!!!) |
Re: sleepers for nats
I'm thinking Team Roboto #447 needs to be tacked on there, with the whole runners-up at the Midwest Regional deal...
|
Re: sleepers for nats
Oh that will go over well. :-)
Are you saying that he will be competing? And if so, will he sleep the entire time? |
Re: sleepers for nats
Add 294 to that list, *EXCITEMENT* cant wait till nats! Its taking to long to get here!
|
Re: sleepers for nats
OH! If were speaking about sleepers at competition, add an ex-108 mentor (name will not be disclosed). Hehe, sleeping at the judges desk is a baddd idea. Especially during competition.
Seriously though, I think our Broward Rookie teams will do well. That's 1251 and 1345 (don't know if they managed to qual for nats or not..) I believe. They've shown tremendous growth, can't wait to see em in action! |
Re: sleepers for nats
How about RAGE 173.....
Rage has always been a team that progressively gets better as the season go's on. Even though they have a young drive team this year i believe they have proved they have what it takes to be qualified as a major sleeper, or just a slow waker. They are able to unCap, collect small balls with ease and best of all they hang well. With the power in there drive train can control the top before hanging. that is my .02 |
Re: sleepers for nats
I would put my money on Team #188. They have a beastly gearbox, and heavy chains on their drive system. I heard they ran into some bad luck at the Canadian Mega-Regional. Although I have not seen them in action, I will still go for them. They have a highly organized team, and I was fortunate to see them in action at the Canadian Regional in 2002, the first year this regional opened up. I also say this since I am "slightly partisan" since I have them as my second pick for FANTASY FIRST.
People in the Galileo division better watch out for Rookie Team #1405 (Finney Falcons). They seeded second with a undefeated record of 7-0-0, and became the Chesapeake Regional Winners. Extremely good for rookies considering that on my team's rookie year, our robot "technically" moved, as in other robots can push it around as a method of transportation around the field. Okay, I think I am over exaggerating, regardless, I just to want to let you guys know they have potential to do well at Nationals. Only time will tell. ;) |
Re: sleepers for nats
Hey guys, keep RoBBE Xtreme in mind too..we won the NJ Regional with teams 273 and 303...we were the 5th place seed there...and in Philly we were 2nd Place seed. :D
|
Re: sleepers for nats
I think this is turning into a "these guys might win" thread. It was started about sleepers. Keep looking for some. A lot of teams posted on here have done very well and aren't so much considered sleepers *cough 56, my fantasy fist number 7 pick cough*. And watch the self promotion. No offense to anyone, but this is what other people think of you, not what you think of you. It isn't a place to get your name out. If you feel you do have an unmentioned sleeper go ahead, post it up, just saying tone down.
Wew, my $.02. To add onother sleeper, I think the Robotic Eagles did good, and have a very nice machine. They didn't win anything to my knowledge, but watch out. :) |
Re: sleepers for nats
Ah yes, all the runner-ups at MWR... 65 and 648, along w/ 447. With great alliances each can do great things! I may be a little biased but watch out for teams that fell just short of winning.
EDIT: I have been trying to get 648's name out for a while but it hasn't worked so I have given up. Sorry I didn't read all the way through the thread. :D |

I think 341 is a pretty big sleeper. They had to make weight at chessy, and barely did it. Great job, tons of lbs lost. But they got things working ok. I see great potential in thier machine. Ching Ching, My 2 again. |
