Well i started it when corey told me about it and i figured yea it would be fun, i figured id fall in somewhere arround the middle and then boom first pick now i can pick off the "Kick Butts" as JVN put it. Well im gonna stick with a team in my division so I have some other teams to watch really closely. Yea its bad reasoning but i needed something to help me choose between my top 3 choices...

Ill Take Paragon, Team 571 UTC Otis Service Center/TrueBro/JDS Uniphase & The Loomis Chaffee School

I just think they'll go pretty far i watched them at UTC and they were amazing.
Ok Corey Next pick is up to you.
Sorry if i picked your team.

And thus it has begun.
Jonsey is offline but there is no rush yet.
I wasn't expecting to get strted til Thursday really but if you guys are available when your pick is up feel free to make it. It'll get really serious on Friday. I have the day off and will keep everybody on a shorter leash. You'll get about a half an hour to post your pick and then I'll use the list (unless you PM me and tell me to make the pick from your list) and if none of those robots are available I'll use John's poser rankings.
Fair enough?

 wait, i thought you said those who got last picks first round got first picks second round, how is it that some people get like 25 and 14th pick, while people like me got like 82nd and 61st or 98 and 90th pick for thier rounds?

This is still the first round. If you got 98th pick in the first round, you'll get first pick in the second round. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe that since you are #82, you will get the 17th pick in the second round.

I don't think that's right, I believe it's completely random. Look at Andy Baker's luck :ahh:

Also, what if we are in school during our time slot to pick a team?? Not all of us have 24/7 access to a computer.

It's reverse order. The first number next to your name is your level in the first round. Then the list that Koko Ed posted that shows our names in that order will be reversed for the second round. That second set of numbers shows your order for the third round.

For example, Xufer picks first in the first round, but 98th (last) in the second round, and 92nd in the last round.

So then, Greg Needel, you'll get picks of 92, 7, and 87.

EDIT: If you have not seen the list of draft numbers, it is the first post here

OK... what is the order for the 3rd round? I am confused... the order just goes by when we signed up. Then in here we are listed by the first number. The second round is the send number? Yes? Right?

No, look at this post. This is the list of our rankings. They are in the order of when we signed up, but this is not the picking order. Look at the two numbers beside the people's names. The first number is their picking order for the first round. This was posted by Koko Ed in that order at the top of this thread. These first round orders are reversed for the second round, i.e. first pick will go last, last pick will go first, etc... Then if you look back at the post i mentioned, there is a second list of numbers. This is the order of picking for the third round.

Team #42. Though I don't know where they hail from, or what their sponsors are, they have to be good, just because they're team 42. lol Stupid reason huh? I still call team 42.

Next up is BoyWithCape295, who's off-line right now.

Just a quick recap of those teams which have currently been selected:

2) 33 - Diamler Chrysler & Notre Dame Prepatory "The Killer Bees"
3) 42 - Daniel Webster College/Bronze Craft Corporation/Sci Tech/D’Ambra Technologies, Inc./BAE Systems & Alvirne High School

Go ahead, but remember, if people use your top 10, you may not get the team you hoped for.

Just a note, when it's my turn to pick, can someone try to contact me, thanks

Re: FIRST FANTASY DRAFT

My top 10:

67 - Amazing robot that does everything, has played a tough schedule, and has the awards to go with #1
16 - How could I not pick a 2 time regional winner that was instrumental to my team winning Annapolis, see 67
1114 - 1 regional win, 2 time finalist, and in a division without any standout teams. Gets bumped way up because of the division
33 - Great ball robot, adding the hanging bumps them way up
222 - These guys just win (except in elimination finals, Buffalo Bills anyone?)
254 - Do everything, a little iffy on the hanging, and the competition they've faced, but you can't go wrong with them. Great Strategy and drivers proved over the years
45 - See the match when they capped over 93
60 - See 254
237 - With so many great ball robots, the top team is going to need someone to keep people from hanging to make the difference
330 - See 237, bar blocking may not be as good (IMO), but keeping the big ball off is great. Also, faster to the bar.

My disclaimer, I've only seen 1 of these robots in person (330), and only 254 in webcast, so my picks are on a basis of what they've accomplished, and what I've heard. I'm also missing the best New England ball teams, because I haven't heard much talk about them.

If I was picking for most wins in qualifying, neither 237 or 330 would be in my top 10, but I think they will help thier alliance go all the way through the elims, and rack up a bunch of wins that way.

I'd love so see why people make thier picks, similar to what I did.

I want to see Andy Grady, Andy Baker, and Karthik's lists now, and JVN's after he picks (since he may have a chance to get one of his top 10)

Just for the record, it was team 27 RUSH, who "capped" (without realeasing the ball), who had gotten the idea from team 67 when they capped 1241 at ypsilanti.

Alos, more importantly, can i email someone my top 40 or so picks, incase i am unavalible when it is my turn? thanks.

That's not what he was talking about. He was talking about in the Semi's at midwest when 45 capped the goal that 93 was trying to block.

So...this is going very slowly. Pickers 5, 6 and 7 are online but 4 is holding things up, any suggestions?

Hmmm.. me wonders if Koko is just going to wait until Friday to really start this thing up? It's not gonna be easy, here's some fun math

Assuming you allow a time of 30 minutes per person, and half the people are CD addicts while the other half are no-shows it would take 24.5 hours per round, and 73.5 overall- just more than 3 days.. I know that on Sunday I'll be with my family gorging my belly with chocolate, itd be nice to be done by then. Maybe tonight and tomorrow night (after 4 PM for those who work and are at school) we could have a 30 minute per pick basis... so starting now until lets say, 11:00, then at 4 PM tomorrow to 11:00, everyone has 30 minutes to show up. Lemme know what y'all think

Just my two cents.

Joe,

I'm working on my list right now. Well to be specific, I'm working on a metric to rank all the teams at nationals, for 1114's scouting database. It's just pretty handy that it should suffice as my list. Of course there will be some fudging, because numbers aren't perfect. (other than 6, 28, 496 ... (2^(p-1))((2^p)-1), where (2^p)-1 is a Mersenne prime...)

I'll try and upload the metric and the database as a whitepaper sometime tonight.

I can pick pretty much whenever, I'm on Spring Break right now. The only problem is that I'm on the West Coast, so that could cause a little problem with morning picks cause I'm 3 hours behind the East coast.

i emailed my list to you ED, but i might take another day to put the rest of my teams up (is 38 enough for one day do you think?) well i am at school, soccer, and robotics for like my entire life so i will most likely not be on often. If it comes my turn (and you guys are waiting on me anytime after 1:50-5:00), and everyteam on my list is taken, can someone just pick a decent team for me? Thanks.

can somone make a selection for team311?
At this rate it's going to take weeks to finish three rounds.
Ed, use Keiko173's list that she sent you for her pick. It's my sister, I'm not just making this up.

Yes, what's the rule if a user doesn't select a team within __ amount of time?? I think they should be skipped over... you snooze you loose. :]

There has got to be a better way to do this. I'm waiting for spot 12 to come up, should I check back in a week? Althought if there is a time limit what should it be? And what happens if your in school?

Jeff Rodriguez 07-04-2004 22:41

Re: FIRST FANTASY DRAFT

People can PM their lists if they want to, and I will make a selection based on the list. If that's alright with ED and Jones and the people running it. It would also help take some of the burden off of Ed, since he seems to be doing alot.
I'm at the computer most of the day, and have tomarrow (thursday) off, so it can move much faster.

I am letting the draft get an early start. I'm not "officially" starting it til Friday. I will be off of work that day and I will be able to run the draft on the weekend. I want it all said and done by Sunday night.
That is why I had you guys send me a list. So if I don't get a pick in 15-30 minutes then I make the pick for them. If it isn't on the list or I wasn't sent one then I give them the "best available robot" according to the rating system John-V Neun made.
Patience fellas. It'll pick up.

I think we should get this moving a bit faster, even if we are starting a bit early. We've been waiting all day, and TEam311 hasn't been on in some 9 hours. Not to sound harsh but I'm getting impatient. :(

Why don't we just say Team311 choses team 311?

Koko Ed 08-04-2004 05:08

I think we've waited long enough

Team 311 gets Team 311. Since he didn't bother to submit a list. If he disagrees with the pick he can submit to any team that isn't picked in the upcomming picks.
Keiko173 is up.

Re: FIRST FANTASY DRAFT

Let me be the first to point out that while I know many of you have things to do outside of CheifDelphi I would ask that you would do one of two things. Either submit a list or check in frequently so the draft moves along at a reasonable pace to be consdierate of fellow league members so they can make their picks as well. On Friday I will not be so patient.

Allright, we got 10 picks! I'd say this is coming along smoothly for the most part. Let's keep it going.

Wow 10 picks already and so far and its kinda intresting...

i have no clue what Ski, "mr.X" is talking about both 67 and 254 are in Newton he sometimes has trouble reading above his level, we all love ski but he doesnt pay attention when he logs on to CD in school, Becuase i have been following when each team was picked and which division they where in ever since drafts started.

I definatly agree this years game is wierd i really think almost anyone could win it as long as you have a robot on the field its going to be a close match.

Re: FIRST FANTASY DRAFT

Not to be pushy or anything as I got plenty of time till my draft (way in the 70s) but considering we gave Team311 about 11:30 hours will we be doing the same to him then assigning him his own team or first on the JVN list or whatever when that time is up. I think it would only be fair because we didn't allow Team311 anymore time so everybody in the ealry stages should go by the similar time schedule until we get serious tomorrow with the 15-30 minute slot.

P.S. I know we can trade teams as long as it is even (1 for 1) but...

Are we allowed to trade draft slots like in the pros, say I swap to like the 20th spot in return for my 76th spot and a 6-pack of dew or what have you with Mr.Z?

Officialy when does the 15 minutes start tommorow? Am i correct in assuming it will be Eastern time seeing as where you reside from? Also, considering their has been no nays about the draft spot trades those are appropriate correct as long as every person in the draft ends with 3 robots a piece correct?

As of 8:57 eastern time one, MisterX of 521, hereby agreed to trade his 76th spot with one, Mike M. of 126, for his 80th pick and a soda (preferably Pepsi) at the national competition held from April 15-17, 2004 in Atlanta, Georgia.

I get up at 8 and I can start slamming picks in then but I am sure alot of people would not care for that or I can wait til noon and let people have the chance to get online and give people a chance to make up their own minds.

Not to add to the post count, but it seems like those who want to know if they are up would have an easier time not having to sort though all the comments posted in this thread. I suggest that a comment thread is created and also a separate “Post only if it is a Pick" thread (except for maybe Koko Ed since he is in charge). I just think it would be much easier to sort though the picks.

Also, I would suggest that once you post, you attempt to contact the next person to help the process (PM/email/AIM).

Koko Ed - I will let you officially announce if this is the way you want to run things

Eric

After checking the forums periodically at school today waiting for AsimC to submit I was forced to leave to go to the hospital. For the this reason I did what I thought was send a list to Koko Ed of my top picks, however he did not receive them. Why should the person infront of me gotten the whole day when I got a very short amount of time? Does anyone believe I should be able to take the top pick on my list, which was honestly Team 111?

I am thinking that noon would be a little more fair to people on the left coast. And as you can see sometimes picking for others can get a little sticky at times.

Just a question, will each 15 minutes end early if that person chooses a team? In other words, can I figure out the number of people before me, multiply by 15 minutes, and figure out what time I need to be on the board?

Yes. You just get the 15 minutes to make up your mind. If you wish to pick sooner, please do so.
