Autonomous Programming Competition Signup List

Team 948 is hosting an autonomous programming competition open to all FIRST teams. Since the whole competition will be online, no travel is neccessary.

If your team may have any interest (this is not a commitment) in participating in this competition, leave the following in a reply:
- team number
- team name
- full e-mail address of main contact
- and, if possible full e-mail address of student in charge of programming.

I will contact you as soon as possible.

Note: this thread should not be used to discuss the competition itself. There are quite a few posts/threads in the Programming forum for that sort of discussion.

Newport Robotics Group (Team 948)
Student Leader and Programmer

Has a (tentative) date been determined? (hopefully after ap tests ...)

Anyway,

Team 122
NASA Knights
pml_mrawls@yahoo.com

(main contact's e-mail is hopelessly down for the forseeable future, as the network was seriously cracked and the sys admin is scrambling franticly)

How would this be setup? i.e. details on everything, i know a few people were talking about flash setups etc. before but was anything ever finalized?

A competition Manual will soon be posted here:

http://nrg.chaosnet.org/coder/manual.doc

Regarding time, it will be after AP testing.

Do you also have a Main Contact e-mail?

Hmmm... Not sure if I'll be able to, but I'm interested. I have some other guys on the team who are learning Java, so they can come and annoy me while I work. ;)

What is the emphasis of the competition? It oobviously isn't on the variety of sensors, and porting any code made for FIRST to this may be difficult.

Do you absolutely need a team? I'm teamless at the moment but would like to try if it's at all possible.

No, you do not need a team. If you want to participate anyway, put "non-FIRST participant" as your team number.

I've listed you as a non-FIRST participant, and your team number is #9001.

Matt Krass is team #9000.

Matt Wiggins is also listed as an individual at is now team number #9002.

The team numbers are just to distinguish those participating as part of a FIRST team and all other participants.

Could you provide instructions for creating your own robot routine and testing it?

I have to report another problem. nrg.chaosnet.org can't be found.
 Is it down temporarily?

Its up right now - but the SDF people (our host) do routine upgrading around 2 to 5 am sometimes.

Yeah, maybe it was just something with me for a bit there. Anyway, I can get there now. :)

Instead of posting your info here, you can register here:

Everyone who has posted here, you will also need to register at the site above.

Sign up on the address posted earlier. Signing there does the same as here, it's just easier for SilverStar to read it. :)

Testing of robots.

So, now I have made a robot (hypothetically. I really copied one of the test robots and renamed the class and file:)). How do I test it? How do I setup a "competition" with my robot in it so I can verify it works?

Guest 29-04-2004 20:18

Re: Testing of robots.

Ok, simplest thing would be to play a competition between 4 of your own robots.

Make a "matches" subfolder in your RoboCoder folder (not in the package class folder, but in the root "robocoder" folder. Now run "java GraphicView record x x x x" from the command prompt. x is the 4-digit team number (with 0s on the left to pad). Let it record.... after the timer goes to '0'. Close the window - now run 'java GraphicView play lastmatch'

Re: Testing of robots.

Upgraded simulation/robot software.

Now you can set up any arrangement of sensors - in the code. Look at the source code to find out. New match available at http://nrg.chaosnet.org/coder/viewmatch

[edit]
Schedule for competition:

It's not working... :(

I seem to have a lot of problems. :)

Could you give me step by step instructions, including path information. Just use the generic / for the root of where the stuff is. (forward slash for the Windows guys. Linux, you can figure it out. :))

whered it go?

Payment/participation

Question on payment: How do we pay?

Question on participating: Where/how exactly will the rules be released? (email, your website...) How will things work (in a general sort of way)?

Or, have these been answered in an email I accidentally deleted? If so, yell at me and answer anyway...
