Haha ok I suppose you did have to deal with me for an entire FIRST season...

You get mad props for that anyway.

Good Job Bridgette!

Andy Baker did a similar thing at the tailgate party Saturday. I really like the idea... I've gotta do it next year.

Nice :) The only cards you need for a great game of Euchre.. though I'd prolly stash these away now if I were you :]

Re: pic: FIRST deck of cards

I just want to thank Andy Baker for the neat idea of giving out the cards in the first place. Rob and I came up with the signature idea on Thursday and spent all of Friday walking around the pits and stands looking for people. We even employed a few key people to get some important ones we didn't have access to (thanks D@ve and Amanda :p ). All in all it was an enjoyable experience. I got to meet a lot of great people, and even though Rob did most of the talking, I had a blast just taking it all in. There are still at least 15-20 more cards we didn't even post!

The cards are great mementos and I still have my deck blank and ready to go (by next year at Championships hopefully mine will be full too). See everyone at the off seasons competitions, and if someone walks up to you and asks you to sign one it's probably going to be me. :)

Yay, a full Euchre Hand (with Rezzy Technokats cards)!!! [not that i could do any better]

(Euchre is a game mostly played in Indiana, so if u don't know what it is, ur probably not from Indiana)

I want to sign the 2 of spades, since two is my favorite number, and because I am a worthless person :(

We should make some Indiana First Cards (normal set and a separate euchre set) [w/ 2 euchre sets coming in one pack] With cheezy pictures of all the people in Indiana First Teams for face cards.

i.e. David Kelley Ace of Clubs (The "rocket launcher" picture)
Amanda Morrison Queen of Hearts (The picture with David K which she hates)

Just get any goofy picture of anyone on Indiana First and put it on a card! :D

btw there should be a euchre tournament at IRI

Hey, no problem. I had to work up the guts to talk to Woodie (and flag down Dave at the same time!). That's okay, I guess that's why we were honorarily the Queen and Jack of Hearts, respectively. I can honestly attest that 121 is a great group - see you next year!

Actually I thought that Western/Central New York was the only place where Euchre was played. I've never met anybody outside this area that has heard of it. It's an awesome game, but really hard to pick up on just by watching.

Those cards are great. Hopefully my team will be able to go to Atlanta next year so I can meet some of these awesome FIRST people!

Euchre is mainly a game in the northern Midwest and somewhat out East, but the cool thing is that usually the game is played slightly differently everywhere you go. I do know some people that have played it down South, and apparently it's totally different than the way it's more commonly played here. The game has changed according to each region its played in, which is pretty cool :]

FANTASY Deck of cards

That is such a COOL idea!

OK, now let's hear YOUR fantasy deck setup...

Assume for a sec you could get ANYONE's (or ANYTHING's) picture and/or signature. If YOU were to make up a deck, who/what should it include, and on which cards?

IMHO, the Aces might be:
Dean Kamen, Dr. Woody Flowers, Dave Lavery, and Director Bob Hammond. (IYO, is there anyone else more deserving, that I'm simply forgetting about?)

But then, WHO or WHAT do you honor after that?
Some candidate categories OTTOMH, for discussion:
- Top FIRST office people (those 12 or so very hard workers that make this possible for us)
- "CD Famous" folk
- Regional/Nat winning robots
- "Top Team" team photos (for whatever reason)
- Hall of Fame people (lifetime achievement)
- Chairman's Award winners (Team photos)
- Infamous Robots (by performance)
- Unusual Robots (by design - walkers, transformers, etc.)

What else? (Some people/groups/things may fall into multiple categories above)

Questions:
- Should the face cards be reserved for people and the number cards all be robots?
- Should there be a mix, with each suit a "category"?

So... Let's hear it. How would YOUR deck be set up, and who or what would be assigned to each card? (I'm just curious. There's no "right or wrong" here, so please don't criticize other's choices.)

According to Hoyle (this is from memory, so don't shoot me if it isn't 100% accurate), Euchre was brought to the US by the Dutch people that settled in Western Pennsylvania. The game then spread through the Midwest and parts of the east.

In high school, Euchre was the only game we played (I'm from northern Michigan). I still play a little bit, but not too often anymore. I've moved on to Bridge (now THAT is a card game). After playing Bridge, Euchre seems pretty tame.

BTW, does team 45 have any more cards left? I would love to get a set.
