Where did you build your robot?

Hey where did everybody build their robot this year? Like, did u do it at school, at a space with your sponsor..etc?

AdamT 26-02-2002 23:25

At a local *20 minute drive in rush hour traffic local* high school. Who knows next year.

We built TOBOR V at Appleton East, one of the four high schools involved in the program (the school with the most students involved and the machine shop!!) The engineers from 2 of our sponsors (Plexus and Kimberly Clark) drove to the high school every day... which is a good 15-20 minute drive!! Students also machined some parts at FVTC (Fox Valley Technical College, another sponsor) so I guess you could say the robot was partially built there too! :)

In the sponsor's shop at his home.

Mimi Brown 27-02-2002 22:56

We built IN the chemistry room...talk about little to no room...

Wayne Doenges 28-02-2002 06:37

We built ours at the high school machine shop. We had plenty of room.
We practice at an old Target department store. We got a free lease donated :) It's located about 100 yds away from the school. In fact, the back of the store is against the school parking lot. Also there was carpeting on the floor already.
For other teams that don't have a good place to practice, this is worth looking into.

We used our company sponsor (AFL) to build the robot, and for the engineers to test-drive it. It was funny. Seeing our robot run around in cubicals, LOL, but the main testing, ball getting and goal grabbing, where done in our school's old Auto shop. We had TONS of room!

build area

Our team was VERY LUCKY to get a new space from our sponsor. We moved out of our old area on site and into an area that is a little more sectioned off than the old area. It is about 30-45 minutes away from most of the student's schools, but we come from 8 highschools, and we have one homeschooler.

The seperated ares are good so we can keep the refridgerator away from the electrical work area. And keep the computer crew away from everyone else; no one likes them anyways.
(hee hee J/K you guys :D We luv you anyways.)

Matt Attallah 01-03-2002 15:01

HEY!

With out the computer people, the robot wouldn't move!!!

Re: where we build ours

C.H.A.O.S. uses its sponsor Osram Sylvania for their building/practicing area. It's really nice, and the boys at Osram are the best!
