FIRST Water Bottles

Upon finishing my special FIRST water bottle at the nationals, I saw that there were a few websites on the label. I was hoping to order a few cases for my team, but upon searching the sites, I had no luck finding out ordering procedures. I did find regular Mt. Shasta water but it didn't say whether or not it had the FIRST label on it...can anyone offer some assistance?

I don't know if you can do anything but get them by luck of the draw... Central Tech purchased a bunch of cases and wound up with some of the cases being the FIRST bottles.

'Twas quite cool, but seemingly random.

I was wondering whatever happend with the FIRST water bottle. It seems to me I remember being very happy they were giving them away for free at Epcot some years back (due to the weather, it was badly needed). Then Dean or someone made a statement that we can expect to see the water bottles at grocery stores and such fairly soon. Never happened! Am I going crazy?

If I am right, Dean asked some high ranking guy in the Coca-cola company if he would bring these water bottels out on the market and he said "we'll see". So I am assuming that Coca-Cola never came through on it (economically makes sence if you think about it).

I know of at least 900 groups of people that would buy them...

FIRST Red Bull or any sort of energy drink.. wow that could be a seller, so many stores would sell out during competition season.

Yes over 900 would because of FIRST, however if you look on a global scale, it's a big risk to take. While it would be sweet to get the word of FIRST out there and this would be an awesome way. It would take a lot to convince a coorporation to take such a risk.

Haha dude, I'd definitely buy stock in that!

Just imagine.

Then I'd use the profits to sponsor my team!

Now there's a geeky plan...

:D

(1) Invent new FIRST energy drink
(2) Convince Coke-a-cola to market it for you
(3) ???
(4) Profit!

(Oops ... wrong website.)

Are you trying to tell me that 900 or so groups of students doesn't equal the buying power of this so-callled "global" market? Bah! Seriously, though ... what else is there on a water bottle? Who really cares what the label looks like? BUT, if you have something different, something with a message ... hey, FIRST, what is this? that looks neat, how 'bout I see what it's about. At very least, it doesn't seem likely someone would be led to another water product because of the label. But that's why I'm an engineer and not a marketing type, I guess.

In case you guys missed it. http://www.usfirst.org/about/mediace...v_announce.pdf (not that it says anything about the water being availible for general distribution).

What I am saying is that there is no reason to the general person to choose a FIRST water bottle over another. I am not tryign to be-rate FIRST at all but yes I am saying that 900 groups of students does not equal the global market. While 30,000 people might seem like a lot, on global (or even national) standard it really isn't.

It would be really cool to see a FIRST water bottle out on the market, however from a marketing director stand point, what will make the general person want to buy this over any other water? Like I said it could do well, and I would like to see it do well, but your looking at a company inventing millions of dollars into producing these bottles........

Yes, I know. Maybe the sarcasm of my statement wasn't conveyed like I thought (funny how you can I usually know what I mean ... but others always have the trouble with it.)

Oh, nothing really except maybe novelty. My point was that there was nothing that would make the general person not want to buy this water over any other water. Now, I don't imagine this being done on a huge scale or anything ... just a small experiment perhaps. They've already produced the water/label combo, so they obviously have the setup, which would be the bulk of any extra dollars this would cost. The rest of it they'd make back, hopefully, by people buying the darn thing. I don't imagine it would be a particularly profit-motivated decision, of course (like I said, I'm no marketing type) -- but big companies are always trying to look down-to-earth and like to sponsor things like this as good will. But I definately don't plan to walk into some store in China and buy a FIRST water bottle (primarly because I don't plan on going to China any time soon, though). ;)

But what happenes when Shasta labels are all FIRST labels, that was one thing that was said at the 2002 nationals in Epcot. They arent trying to make you pick a FIRST label over another, but when thats all the stock one store is given, thats the shasta water that is going to be sold. I know a chetchy label will attract me espically if its got reading on the inside of the lable...

National Beverage Corp, not Coca-Cola. :)

Anyway, since Nationals last year there have been many threads about the coveted (well, at least by us!) FIRST water:

Last I'd heard, people were getting it out of vending machines, but hadn't seen it in stores yet. I think, at one point, someone contacted Mt. Shasta to see if they could get a vending machine in their school with the FIRST labels on the bottles... I'm not sure what the outcome of that was.

Hopefully, we'll be able to go to the store and buy a case of FIRST labeled Mt. Shasta water sometime soon!!

*crosses fingers*

I would love to have a FIRST water vending machine in my school. I wouldn't get water from one of those crummy fountains we have...psht. Even if it was a dollar and change, it would be worth it.

Ah... FIRST Robotics. The only place where people will possibly fight over the last bottle of FIRST water. I love my nerds. :)

OMG fellow [M] er

whats your username on the [M]?

they could probably sell the first water to everyone, that would spread the message of first (sounds like a chairman's award idea...give away first water/give out pamphlets)

Water bottle siting

There was a large Malaria conference at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health about a month ago, and the water bottles supplied to the attendees were FIRST bottles. Imagine my surprise when I'm walking to my lab and see all these people drinking bottles of water with the FIRST label, it was quite cool. I snagged one for myself, it was the first time I've seen them other then at competitions.

Re: Water bottle at warehouse

Yesterday I was walking through a store in a neighboring town and I was really thirsty so I picked up this water bottle for $.40 until i examined it I didn't realize that it had a FIRST logo on the side and on the inside it had all the information, so it was really cool, and really cheap at 40 cents plus deposit.. They had alot of them and it looked like they had cases so ill be going back very soon to pick up some more.

Re: FIRST Water Bottles

Yep, FIRST is beginning to sell things. No more handouts. Last year, at nats, they gave us a free t-shirt (which I didn't know about, I didn't get one) and free FIRST water. This year, they charged us three yellow bucks, which could have been used to buy a new cell phone (they are gold backed), for a FIRST water bottle. In addition, the good FIRST shirts cost $30! :ahh: . Luckily, I got one for free because my generous team (461) decided that we had done so well at nationals (Curie divisional finalists) that we could get free FIRST shirts. I agree with a previous post. FIRST Really needs to make energy drinks, as can be seen below...

Now, if FIRST had an energy drink, that would really pump people up, like this...

And FIRST is all about being pumped up.

Heh. I don't plan on buying any bottles of water unless they're wrapped with a $5 bill.
