attn: College students!!!!

Alright, if any of you guys remember last year, there was a College Student get together at Pleasure Island. Well, there's going to be another one this year! I look forward to seeing all you guys there. For Pleasure Island you have to be 18+ (though there has been debate as to whether or not it has changed to 19+...two official disney websites say different things) and for those who don't know what Pleasure Island is, it's a bunch of clubs (not necessarily all dance clubs). It was a lot of fun last year so I hope you guys can make it this year. Okay, now for the info...

When? Thursday night, 4/25/02 9pm - ????

Where? Same as last year. There is a big fountain in front of the entrance to PI. For those of you who don't know what it looks like, go here: http://www.geocities.com/clea1281/nats2001.html
there are pictures of me standing in front of a fountain with either steve or matthew. That's the fountain.

DON'T FORGET YOUR ID!!! Plus, if you bring your college ID you get a 50% discount on your ticket.

Hmm...I think that's about all the info you guys need. Hope to see you there!

Jessica Boucher 27-02-2002 23:32

Noooo, don't do it thursday night!!!

Is there anyway to make it friday?

Hopefully we will be there on thurs nite. Or maybe Sat, in lieu or apres team party.

Christina 01-03-2002 22:12

Okay Jessica, because I like you so much and having a college night just wouldn't be the same without you, it has been changed to Friday. Everything is the same (place and time) but instead it shall be on Friday night. I hope to see you all there. :)

Lora Knepper 04-03-2002 16:36

Assuming I can find a way down there ... Any objections to taking a college-age, but non-college student in? ;)

Oooh.. come to think about it.... I have a valid RIT id from orientation still too... ;)

Christina 07-03-2002 09:32

Sure Lora. Our basic ruling on this is, did you graduate high school? We're trying to not make it too rule crazy. :)

~Christina

Wetzel 08-03-2002 05:22

I'll have graduated by then....:D

Lora Knepper 08-03-2002 21:22

Hehe... yeah, this year that rule applies ;) I remember last year the grey area I got caught in since I was attending college... only catch was I was still taking a few high school classes at the same time :D

I'm going to try to make it in some fashion or another. If it comes down to a sleeping bag and camping out in my truck (FIRST tailgate party? ;) ) then that's what I'll do if I must. :)

Matt Leese 10-03-2002 19:23

I made the announcement and had planned to this year (although closer to nationals itself). I would however to continue to do it on Thursday and not Friday. The reasoning was that in general people have more to do on Friday night for their team than they do Thursday night. Thursday night is usually an off-night and there isn't preparation for the finals round the next day. But that's just my two-cents.

Matt

Jessica Boucher 11-03-2002 13:56

Well, Christina,

If you want to change it back to thursday, its ok with me. We just got our air set and already have a hotel picked out, and we will be in FL round midday on thursday.

Also, can we figure out if the age to get in has been upped to 19+? Its not crucial, but it would be good to know.

Todd Derbyshire 11-03-2002 16:36

ok how about graduating high school seniors who are 18 can we tag along too.

Christina 11-03-2002 17:32

Okay, I don't particularly care when it is, but we should really decide on a date. I'm tempted to just keep it where it is and say it's Friday, but if there is anyone who *really* dislikes Friday and would *much* rather have it on Thursday, tell me. So, for now, it's Friday unless there are some really strong objections.

Todd, I'm sorry but like I said before, it's more of a college student get together. It's mainly for people who have already graduated high school.

I don't want to get to bogged down with rules and regulations, so I'm just trying to keep it to that one single rule.

Matthew, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to step on any toes while planning this. I wasn't aware that you were still trying to put this together. Again, I'm sorry.

Does it matter in which decade we graduated?

Never mind, I'll just take my Geritol and go to bed...

Used to be a College FIRST-a-holics meeting...

Last year it used to be a "College FIRST-a-holics" meeting where we got together and Matt talk to us about his idea about getting more college students to participate in FIRST... It went pretty good, and it was just a good old meeting each other face to face type of thing. All of us had great fun away from the competition.

Matt and I didn't pay too much attention to it this year because we were busy with the competition and all, and the topic never came up... I don't really care about it anyway, as long as we ARE going to meet each other and have some cool time away from the competition.

If time don't work out, I will hang out with others who can't make it, on some other time...

And even last year when it was on a thursday, some people couldn't go because they were busy with scouting already. So, either day, there will be some people busy with stuff. The best thing to do is decide a day where most people can go.

About this being a College FIRST-a-holics only... Well, it's really just time for us to hang out, and share our experience about doing BOTH FIRST and college. It's a pretty frustrating experience sometimes, and a lot of us got to be friends because of this common experience. We had to deal with a lot of stuff high school students or adults don't have to. Not trying to exclude people or anything.

Mean while, there is Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday for me to hang out with people. Anyone want to join? ;) Just a little warning, you will have to do most of the talking.

Ken!!!!!!! Hang out with me!

Admit it, you had a fun time at Kickoff, and I even baked you cookies.....

Bill Gold 12-03-2002 14:15

Jessica:
When I picked Ken up from the airport he came back with a giant bag full of your cookies. He let me try one (but like a pringles commercial, one turned into a few), and I must say they were quite good :). Just thought I'd compliment you on the cookies.

Awww Dave :) you know,we're just various FIRSTers in limbo ;) no longer high school, not yet sponsor (though, there are some exceptions...) .. you, however, are a FIRST icon :D

PS - I was the one Carolyn shoved in front of you at VCU ;)

I had no idea. Aww, thank you. Sounds like Im making more for nationals.....

Carolyn Duncan 14-03-2002 11:23

Ok, here goes a bunch of random bits of info:
Friday night may be difficult for the reasons Matt said. I may be helping keep tabs on the students on my team... I would like to have it on Thursday but it doesn't matter what I would like, it's what works best for everyone.
If you have park hopper passes you don't need to buy a ticket onto PI... at least that's what they told us last year...
Jessica: now that you guys have travel arangements made, am I picking you guys up? The offer still stands.
Ken: You talked to me plenty last year, much more than I talked to you...
Dave: Why wouldn't you be able to go? Wear the Hawaiian shirt though... hehehe that would be hillarious...
ME, shove someone in front of Dave? nah never happened...
Well, I think that's all of the randomness... at least for right now

Lora Knepper 14-03-2002 11:39

Friday is much better for me.... I'm doubting that I will be able to make it down to FL for Thursday... well, the whole trip is still iffy. But anywho... whatever is decided.

Jess! Cookies! ;)

Jessica Boucher 14-03-2002 14:04

Yes, cookies.......but this time instead of cooking them in my kitchen at home the day that I was being picked up because I forgot, I get to run to the next dorm over & bake, since my dorm doesn't have ovens. ;)

Oh, Carolyn, you would have probably heard this earlier if I was on AIM (almost done! I'll be back on April 1st!!!)...I won't be needing you to pick myself, Elgin & Roberto up, our flight comes in mid thursday and I have transportation already through Mears (I didnt want you or anyone else to miss primo practice day time). We are also flying into Orlando, so don't worry bout us at all. Unless....you want to schlep people over at around 11am to meet our flight, and in that case, by all means....;)

The 237 alum are staying at the Doubletree Club hotel right outside of Downtown Disney (I tried to get Disney reservations, but the only thing available was Coronado Springs at 338 a night). I may need you to hop in your car & pick us up in the morn on Fri & Sat if the scheduled buses are too slow. Thanks! Youre so sweet!

Lethi86 14-03-2002 15:11

We don't really have to decide... why don't we just go there both nights (thursday and fri)? Well... i'm gonna be there both days so i'll see you guys there i guess.

As long as you are back by room checks, or have permission to be out, its ok.
Jess: Cool beans. I think that if I have directions to your hotel that can be arranged, as long as you guys don't mind stopping at Krispy Kreme with me ;)

Room checks? We have room checks this year?

Carolyn Duncan 18-03-2002 20:17

Elgin Krispy Kreme makes all their donuts right there and they arent hard like the ones you buy in the grocery. Hopefully the "HOT NOW" sign will be on and you will get a real treat! Nothing beats a fresh, hot, Krispy Kreme donut right out from under the glaze waterfall... mmmm now I think I want to go up to KK and get me a dozen...

I don't mean to disagree with Wetzel, but he really understates the issue.

Krispy Kremes are the living embodiment of the lightest breezes of heaven. They are formed from the gathered wisps of the aroma of ambrosia wafting from the topmost heights of Olympus, woven together by the youngest, most agile woodland nymphs in the earliest hours of the pre-dawn when the air is most still and the dexterity of their fingers is the greatest. This allows them to create the delicate laces of pure sunlight that compose the fibers of this wondrous food, nay, textured nirvana, that is then coated with a bath of the distilled essence of pure morning dew. These mystical concoctions must be consumed quickly, lest they sublimate back to the heavens before they can be captured on the tongue.

Dunkin’ Donuts are, well, just donuts.

Okay, since we're finally approaching Nats, I think I'll make it official. Since there has been quite a debate about whether to have it Thursday or Friday night, it's hard to piack a date. Since there is someone who won't even be here on Thursday to possibly make it, and I haven't had any others like that for Friday, I'm going to make it Friday. You guys are more than welcome to still go on Thursday as well, I'm afraid I can't make it that day though. I'm sorry for any inconviences. Anywho, so, here it is.

When? 9pm

Where? Where? Same as last year. There is a big fountain in front of the entrance to PI. For those of you who don't know what it looks like, go here: http://www.geocities.com/clea1281/nats2001.html

Awww. . . it's not that hard to find, really. It's right between Planet Hollywood, and the AMC Super-mega-ultra-plex.

That's right where Downtown Disney West Side and Pleasure Island meet.

http://disney.go.com/disneyworld/med...trmapddimg.pdf

You can see it there, right between the pink and blue squiglies :)

Elgin Clock 23-04-2002 20:23

I'll lead the way Jess TRUST ME! As long as we don't take any monorails I should be fine.
