1992 Controls

Hello comrades,

I just read a thread where someone mentioned a possible challenge of 1992 robots. That made me curious about the electronics and controls of that year. What were used for controls and electronics in 1992 and how did they work?

wasnt '92 the beginning year?

they used wires then - wires and switches to contol the motors

I'd be really surprized if enough teams could dig up their '92 bots to have a competition

I'm pretty sure the Xcats still have theirs - but with only 26 original teams how many bots are left from that year?

No. We don't
Last I heard I was told it's in the possession of FIRST for display at their headquarters.

Other than wires, what did you guys use? For controls and such.

We did not have to deal with any software just hardwired and tethered with simple rocker switches to turn on forward or reverse. very simple!

We had a re-creation of the 1992 field with 126 vs 190 this year at Battlecry. Someone (I can't remember their name) who was around for the original game recreated the control system for us. It involved 2 boxes with 2 switches on them each for each team with a 50' cable that went up above the field and down to the robot and a big 12v power supply to power it all.
