just our own little spin on things north of the border. ive also heard about a mentors only match that counts in standings involved at IRI, any info about how interesting or how well this event has worked in the past? ;) from the student point of view naturally..hehe. we all know how excited the mentors would be!

This is our first time to do a "Mentors Only" match at the IRI. It should be interesting. And there may be a little bit of pressure on the adults because the match counts in the official team standings.

Re: Robot Skills Competition - Canada's Wonderland Off-Season Event

We're getting closer and closer to competition date, and the spots for Hang Time (Fastest Hanger), Hot Laps (Fastest Robot), and Free for All (Most Prolific Scorer) are just about to fill up.

The last thing I want to happen, is to be at Wonderland and have half the teams yell at me because they never knew about the Skills Competition!

Also, since Chief Delphi is such a well-connected community, if you see a team registered for Wonderland who you think is "the fastest hanger", "the fastest robot", "has the best human player", or "can score a boatload of points", GET IN TOUCH WITH THEM and forward them the links above!

Spots are limited, so please, if you are on a team that is attending Wonderland, and if you don't see your team signed up for a Skills Competition Event, get someone to sign up now, or you will end up regretting it when you arrive at Wonderland!

There are still a few spots left for this competition. I know there are going to be some great times during the skills competition as well. I have just been informed that during the skills competition that the MC and Announcer roles will be thrown out. That means that I can cheer for whatever team I want and will watch as Karthik 's choices continue to lose. This will cause me great joy!!!! :D

Don't forget June 5. On June 6 you can also get into Wonderland for all day rides with the same ticket purchased for Saturdays event. To any American teams that still might be considering coming, You get to pay in Canadian dollars. That's almost like free money.

See you all soon at Canada's Wonderland Competion.

For anyone wishing to attend but not with their team competing, visit Team 188's award winning website, http://www.team188.com , and leave us a post on our forum. I will start a thread there and we can provide you with a 2 day pass for $28.50 Canadian. We would all love to see you. Team 48 I believe that you said you might come to watch. Hope that you can make it (am I still an adopted member?).

Silly, Silly Steve. Haven't you learned yet. I'm the master prognosticator. Really, how often am I ever wrong? :)

This event is going to be something else. I can't wait. Now I just need to figure out what to wear...

As per your post Quote "...Karthik ducks and hides in the corner from all the upcoming jokes by Steve W, about how I've admitted I made a mistake...

Five of us are driving up to Canada Friday night to volunteer at the competition. We'll be staying at the Holiday Inn Express - North York, Friday and Saturday evenings. I've been told by one person that our hotel is "in the ghetto". I am looking forward to finding out if the Canadian definition of "ghetto" is the same as the American.

And yes you are still an adopted team member, Steve, although your version of our team picture didn't make it on to the plaque we handed out to everyone at our awards banquet. My apologies. Any chance you or any other 188 people will make it down to the IRI?

For your viewing enjoyment - A video tour of the North York Holiday Inn Express...

If the hotel is half as ghetto as this video... :D

Joking aside, it looks like a nice place.

I knew I should never have put that in print...

As for the ghetto, the Holiday Inn Express is just a few minutes from the notorious Jane & Finch intersection. It has a bad reputation, but it's really not that bad. Brandon's right, it is Canada.

"Canadian's are so nice, even their criminals say please and thank you when they mug you. Then they give you a receipt. If you're in Toronto, they might even buy you breakfast. I'm all about getting mugged in Canada, I mean I could get some free bacon and maple syrup out of this"

true say. Jane and Finch has earned an incredibly bad rap in Toronto the past few years, if anyone knows, regent park, etc, certain housing projects. but the municipal government and actually government at all levels sinks alot of money in to help the community. Whether or not that money is effectively used or distributed is another question, but im pretty sure you wont find it the same as an American one ;).
