Internet speeds
Just out of curiousity (and boredom) how fast is your internet connection? You can get a free test here: http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
Post your speeds and your connection type. :) High speeds will be applauded, low will be ridiculed. ;) My speed: ~2.4 (over 3 tests) (faster than T-1! Wow!) Connection: Cable :) |
Re: Internet speeds
1.1 Mbps That's wireless 802.11b connected to comcast cable modem.
|
Re: Internet speeds
Meh...148 kilobits. Thats a wireless connection via pci to my toshiba cable modem, which hopefully explains the reason that my internet is much, much slower than average connecticut cable.
(802.11b) |
Re: Internet speeds
Heh. I'm still stuck on 640k/180k DSL. Same price ($50/mo) and same speed since we first got it 4 years ago. It's a rip-off.. but there's no competition.
|
Re: Internet speeds
I got 2.4 megabits per second. This is through a SMC router then through my Motorola cable modem. This was all hard wired, I didn't have any of my laptops on to go through my wireless cards (802.11b) and my D-Link base antannea first before going to the router.
|
Re: Internet speeds
I used to have either 1.6 or 1.8 Mbps for $40 per month but that was only a trial and now I'm at about 300K. :( I'll be switching to 1.6 Mbps DSL for $30 per month. :)
|
Re: Internet speeds
1.4 megabits per second for a DSL, pretty good.
I love my DSL, i just switched my old slow and boring dial up, i am glad i did. LOL |
Re: Internet speeds
Wow... And I thought my Cable Modem speed was slow.. I guess not.
3.2 megabits per second Communications 3.2 megabits per second Storage 387.3 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 2.6 seconds Subjective rating Awesome Side note: I tried this test at school a few hours ago, and I got an error that my speed was either too fast or to slow to determine.. I'm guessing too fast! |
Re: Internet speeds
1.8 mb per second
comcast cable isn't so bad. :) |
Re: Internet speeds
Communications: 937.2 kilobits per second
Storage: 114.4 kilobytes per second 1MB file download: 9 seconds Subjective rating: Good Connection Type: DSL Provider: Pac Bell Internet Services |
Re: Internet speeds
3.4 megabits per second... not bad, considering I'm on a 802.11b connection to a crappy Linksys router, which is connected to a Motorola cable modem.
|
Re: Internet speeds
this is embarassing... I'll have to redo this at my place:
this is Jack Flash (epix) DSL wireless 802.11b netgear on an old modem :( Communications 486.2 kilobits per second Storage 59.3 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 17.3 seconds Subjective rating Not bad ... hehe, ya'll wait... my apt. has a new motorola with Adelphia High Speed Cable, and running a Super G... rawr! I'll post when I get back down there. |
Re: Internet speeds
This is pathetic:
Communications 283.1 kilobits per second Storage 34.6 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 29.6 seconds Subjective rating Mediocre Charter Communications Sucks |
Re: Internet speeds
Speed
1.9 megabits per second Communications 1.9 megabits per second Storage 229.8 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 4.5 seconds Subjective rating Great Earthlink Cable Internet, Syracuse, NY Not too shabby...... I ran the bandwidth speed test on the wireless connection at Bird Library at Syracuse University and topped out around 4.7.... now THAT was good :) |
Re: Internet speeds

Re: Internet speeds
Communications 1.5 megabits per second
Storage 184.1 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 5.6 seconds Subjective rating Great Very good, considering I pay for 1.5 Mbps (187 KB/s) , which means I'm getting 98% of my advertised line speed. |
Re: Internet speeds

Communications 4.5 megabits per second Storage 554 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 1.8 seconds Subjective rating Awesome I do use a router.. Oh and I use Optimum Online.. They're pretty good... |
Re: Internet speeds
I had to do this as a comparison:
Below is Adelphia Cable through an 802.11b router first wireless then hardwired. Communications 1.8 megabits per second Storage 219.5 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 4.7 seconds Subjective rating Great Communications 2.4 megabits per second Storage 292.4 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 3.5 seconds Subjective rating Great If you look back.. you'll see my DSL reading on THE SAME set-up. :yikes: I'll try to post one on the Super G later, or have Scott or Robert come in and post the Super G. |
Re: Internet speeds
That test's filesize is way too small to be accurate. It says my line speed is only about 3.5mbit but running wget http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/...i386-disc4.iso is getting about 8-9mbit. I get about the same upstream, too.
|
Re: Internet speeds
Communications 6.3 megabits per second
Storage 773.7 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 1.3 seconds Subjective rating Awesome |
Re: Internet speeds

Re: Internet speeds
Communications 6.8 megabits per second
Storage 826.5 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 1.2 seconds Subjective rating Awesome From DSLreports.com: Your download speed : 5393326 bps, or 5266 kbps. A 658.3 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed is much faster than down.. have you tweaked? Your upload speed : 7398273 bps, or 7224 kbps. Im at the same place as Mel. Guess the internet just likes me better  Cory |
Re: Internet speeds
I love how the upstream is faster than downstream in dorms. Bunch of leechers! :)
|
Re: Internet speeds
mmmmm my internet can beat up you're internet....
Yummmmm -- NOT photoshopped... done from a campus machine on a gigabit connection to a 45mbps stream... :) Tom |

Re: Internet speeds
I got 2.3 then 3.3 then 3.1 on Comcast cable in MA through a Linksys Router and some old Toshiba modem I got back when MediaOne still provided cable for Western MA (AKA: about 5-6 years ago). Not too bad. Faster then T1 apparently. T1 is useless anyway. T3 Corporate or optical cable! :D
|
Re: Internet speeds
Test 1: 2.7
Test 2: 2.8 Test 3: 3.2 and that's with AOL running! |
Re: Internet speeds
1.6 MB/s (faster then T-1) on Comcast cable in New England (after I called them and had them fix my connection).
