I'm suprised that some of the local bands in my town weren't put on the list, oh wait they aren't awsome, they are just bad.

Hmm.. considering I got the "Rollin (Urban Assault Vehicle)" (editted) song for IRI... I think it's pretty good. Sounds cool at least.

Or it could be ATC- Around The World, and if we're thinking of the same song, I hear ya, man. :ahh:

OK, "Barbie Girl" is an awesome song. It's supposed to make a statement. (There's even a disclaimer on the CD that says something like "Aqua has no affiliation with Matel Toys; the use of the word 'Barbie' is simply meant as a social statement." :D)

"We Didn't Start the Fire" is an awesome song. And "I'll Be Missing You" is actually remix of a really interesting song. So I think it's kind of silly to put a remix on there, unless they're pointing out the fact that he destroyed the original song. (The original was all about stalking- "Every step you take, I'll be watching you" etc. Creepy but at least interesting. Puff Daddy then rewrote some of the lyrics to make it about missing someone who has died and how they'll be watching over you.)

And HOW in the world can you put Cotton Eyed Joe on there? It's a dance song! If you're going to mock dance songs, how about "The Electric Slide"?!

Am I the only one who thinks Crazytown's Butterfly has an great and clean bass line? Its rhythmic, and I crank the speakers all the way up everytime the bridge comes on. Granted, the video is rather tasteless, but putting that song on that countdown is a big >:O.

Maybe Gettin Jiggy Wit it is the song that Yan Wang is referring to?

No, not Will Smith. And after sampling a bit of "around the world", that doesn't seem to be it either. Whatever it was, I don't really care to remember it anymore :)

"we didn't start the fire"
EXCUSE ME???? :ahh: that song has more history than our pop stars could comprehend. that song is the best. no way.

and barbie girl??? EVERYONE loved that song when it was out...they're just putting it on there because they realized how stupid the lyrics were. but i bet you they were all "jamming" to that song when it came out. hypocrites.

and "I'll be missing you" is one of my favorite songs. what's wrong with it? there are worse songs to put up there...maybe some Avril Lavigne

grrr I'm mad at a lot of the songs.
"she bangs" however, deserves to be there. :yikes:

**edit** yea, i just realized LauraN said the same thing...that was scary...same songs too....

Why isn't Vanilla Ice number one?

There's a song called "Under Ice" by Stark Effect. It mixes Vanilla Ice with David Bowie... very cool stuff. There's also an anime music video out there that uses this song, though I forget where to find it.

I have my own qualms with the list, but then again i haven't been a fan of any of VH1's lists including the 100 best rock songs (which apparently includes R&B, hip hop, country, and pop, but i don't mind) and 100 best bands. However, the list that i do respect is Rolling Stone's recent top 500 songs of all time. The only discrepency i see in the RS list is Outkast's "Hey ya". Sorry i don't have a link or anything for you. You'll just have to get the magazine

When done correctly, even songs like those from Vanilla Ice can be remastered and made.. umm.. good?

See HERE for proof!

edit:
Or what about a remixed version of an MC Hammer jam HERE

You gotta love the classics!!

You mean the top 500 list that didn't contain American Pie by Don McLean (quite possibly the greatest poetic song ever)?

Sorry, I discredit that list as well.

Now, I'm not saying American Pie is a bad song, however, I could happily go the rest of my life without ever hearing it again. I'm having a flash-back to a party some 6 or 7 years ago where everyone (but me, I just buried myself amongst the pillows on the couch and pretended to be anywhere else) spent over 3 hours trying to figure out the lyrics (no, they did not bother to look it up on the Net) and then proceeded to sing it, over and over and over... And I may note that only two people there could carry a tune. *Shudder*

Okay, I thought of another song that should have been on the bad song list. Most of you are probably too young to know it, but the lyrics absolutely make me cringe: MacArthur Park by Richard Harris
