Re: Have you cleaned your team's storage closet lately?
We cleaned our shed out last week becuase they are bulldozing that area and are building a new science building. They are giving us a special room (SCORE).
In the shed we found a barbcue grill, charcoal, stage lights, drama props. That is downstairs which is noting, Upstairs we had TONS of wood and PVC. So now all of this stuff is in our shop. We can no longer see the floor. The floor has been elevated about 2-3 feet by plywood. I wil lpost a pic later. TO get to the lights you need to get a harness and scal these mountains (not really). But it is bad. |

The last couple of years the X-Cats did a cleanup and reorganization of the site. Found alot of old buttons, a 96 Beatty robotics trucker cap, a Robbie extreme bandanna, lots of old giveaways and noisemakers (I really wish we didn't find those clickers. They are super obnoxious) and even some old banners.

Re: Have you cleaned your team's storage closet lately?
In September 166 had a super closet clean out.
It took 3 days to complete. Friday night we tore everything out of the closet and brought it out into our work space. Saturday we started sorting through everything, throwing away things we don't need. Sunday we put it all back. It's a lot cleaner and easier to find stuff. |
Re: Have you cleaned your team's storage closet lately?
What usually happens when we try "to clean and organize" our room(closet) is we take all the stuff out that can come out. We then look at all of it amazed that it somehow manages to fill the hallway outside the room  , and then throw it all back in a little bit more organized than last time.
Then finally we do it again in about 2 weeks time. :ahh: Hopefully this year it stays more organized than previous years. |
Re: Have you cleaned your team's storage closet lately?
We are going to clean the shop over Christmas break, I'm terrified to see what stuff we will find.

Re: Have you cleaned your team's storage closet lately?
We have because we're moving after the season.
You can see all the stuff we found laying around right here. |
Re: Have you cleaned your team's storage closet lately?
We have to clean out our room at the end of every year, but we never sort anything we just throw it all into a crate and put it aside. This year we decided it was time to go through everything. It is amazing the stuff you find when you clean. I found a ton of stuff that we were looking for during build but could never find. We have also found various parts to different robots that have been taken apart. It is hard to throw stuff away though because you never know if you can use it for something.
But as Andrew says, you can keep parts but once you actually need them you will never find them. So we have basically just been throwing a ton of stuff away. Our room is looking alot better the 12 crates of junk is now down to about 2 small bins. The other day though I was in our one storage closet going through boxes and found a box half full of brand new poof balls. Those would have been nice to know about when we were fixing the robot for when we went to the off-season event. |
Re: Have you cleaned your team's storage closet lately?
we cleaned 1 of our 2 back rooms out and moved all the stuff to a trailer......The trailer was supposed to be used as a class room since our school is being renovated

Define latley.
Last time it was clean was probably over six months ago. |
Re: Have you cleaned your team's storage closet lately?
One of our main storage areas is above the gym, up a long, narrow set of stairs at the end of a long windowless room. This was all well and good until sometime during construction over the summer and either power was cut to the room or all the light bulbs burnt out. The front two-thirds of the room is populated by the old steel weight-lifting equipment (It used to take up the entire space until we re-arranged a little bit) making the journey to the back section somewhat dangerous. It is actually pretty organized though since we usually have to navigate in the pitch blackness. Materials are in piles separated by type, the robots are in one pile, spare parts are loosely sorted by type, etc. On the off chance that we remember flashlights instead of just using cell phones we always run across stuff we forgot we had.

Re: Have you cleaned your team's storage closet lately?
Our shop is in the process of getting a much needed deep clean. There's so much to be done that I don't think it will get done before build season at which time the process of creating a mess starts all over again. The tools are all organized, the fasteners categorized and sorted with appropriate storage compartments labeled. The cabinet with all of the spare parts from years past had a lot of stuff sorted, and we are accumulating a pile of stuff to hang on our "that didn't work quite like we had planned" wall.

Re: Have you cleaned your team's storage closet lately?
Well, I remember opening up the closet and finding...cockroaches. Lots and lots of cockroaches, from babies to inch long suckers. However, a simple solution (should you ever need to know) is to make a square of duct tape on the floor with sticky side out and place some bait like Goldfish crackers in the center of this home-made glue trap. Works very well! ;)
