Mini Web hug and an idea I have...

A long long time ago we were talking about having "Chief Delphi forums get together" at regionals beside just having the Web hug at Epcot.

We were going to have "scouts" at each regional to get people together, and set up a time and place that people can realistically attend. We were also thinking of designating someone to take pictures of robots at each regional and upload them...

Now we need to find the people to do this! It shouldn't be too hard. Those of you who have been around for a while, and have been to a certain regionals in the past years should know the teams and know the posters in this forum.

We even had a small list of scouts going on:

So far we have "Scouts" and "Campfires" at the following regionals:

VCU--Richman--Pit 365--Brian Gattman

Seattle--Pit 64--Ken Loyd

Los Angeles--Pit 64--Ken Loyd

San Jose--Ken Leung

New England--Pit 121--Lora Knepper

So, who's up for making little get together happening at regionals?

Also, I have this idea inspired by the Gila Monsters last year.

At the southern california regional last year, the Gila monsters have this competition black ball going around getting teams to sign it. I didn't remember about it until one of their member IMed and told me he saw my signature on the ball. And I thought, what a great idea.

So, this year, what I am thinking of is that at each regional, we have a soccer ball going around being signed by teams. We would try to get as many teams to sign it as possible, and as many regional as we can get it done. It shouldn't be too hard to get one of those soccer balls, and they are not expensive neither.

It would be really cool if at the Epcot web hug we can get all those soccer balls together. Imagine when we pull this off and have 17 soccer balls filled with signatures from teams across the country...

What do you think?

I love it!!! That is a great idea and think of how much attention it will get if we can actually pull it off!!!

This weekend's regionals will need some soccer balls!!!

Who's wants to volunteer?????

We'll be next to 365 (384) and I'll be in the stands a lot and I have a digital camera, so it's a natural combination....

I'de do it for St Louis, BUT, if we don't win I wont be at nationals. So if no one else steps up I will.

Glad you like the idea. I already got Wetzel bringing a ball to Richmond this weekend, Andy Baker bringing one to Cleveland, and Asher bringing one to St. Louis. I will manage to find ways to get soccer balls to Silicon Valley regional as well as Southern California regional...

Now all we need is the rest of the regionals... Especially this week's KSC regional.

Again, I have no clue what we would do with 17 signed soccer balls, but we will figure it out when they all arrive at the Championship event. ;-)

I'll try to do it in New Jersey. I'm a pit crew inspector/member though so I don't know how much time I'll have. I'll coordinate something though.

Sorry Ken but it doesnt look like I'll be able to take on to St Louis, a)the fact that our team only has one ball and b) I doubt I'll be at nationals anyway, so its kinda a waste of time. sorry

Score!
At the time I volunteered for this, I wasn't the arm driver, so I would of had time to organize something....but...yeah. Being on the competition team denotes certain things I have to be doing at the comps and one of them is scouting at nearly all times. Are you volunteering for the VCU 'mini web hug' Joseph? That would be great, I'd be more than happy to come and chat for a bit, I just cant organize it.
Our team has a whiteboard up on the pit, so I could put a message about it up there.
w00t! leaving for VCU in less than 3 hours!!

This is my first year with the robotics program, and its my schools first year too, this all sounds like so much fun!

I'll be one of the drivers/strat/scout/everything else for my team and im really excited to go to the NJ and St.L regional, and hope to see some of the forum people there too!

If all goes well...

I can probably arrange something at the Lone Star Regional but then again the robot comes first so will have to see

Yup! the robot should always comes first. Besides, I expect some local team at Lone star can pull this off.

Besides, I don't expect too much regional can do this anyway... Kind of depressing, but the competition come first. It would be nice to get 17 soccers, but I expect about 3~4, maybe 5.

Hey, no stress about this. Just do what you want, and have fun.

I'm can use one of our team's soccer balls for signing :) If you're going to be at Motorola Midwest Regional, I will have a soccer ball there for teams to sign - come visit me in 93's pit area to say hello and sign the ball!! :D

Great lakes

Great Idea ! Kenny, - I think?

How did they go last week?

I am just curious about how easy was it to meet Chief Delphi posters at the two regional last weekend?

Were you too busy to go around and talk to people, or did you get to walk around from pits to pits to meet other posters? Were they easy to spot?

Oh yeah, need someone to bring a soccer ball to Long Island regional, and another to Lone Star regional. Any takers?

Joe Matt 12-03-2002 08:55

I saw AdamT, the hair gave it away.
The guy in the silver cape identified himself on here.
Nobody else was there....
Mabey the Nat's, yes, the Nat's. That would be a lot easier. Plus we could use Chief Delphi's pit area for a meeting spot....
