Riddle me this

Got a riddle that will stump everyone? If so post it here.
I'll start;

If it takes six men six days to dig six holes how long would it take one man to dig half a hole?

Justin Boudreau 08-06-2004 19:50

Re: Riddle me this

You can't dig half a hole

You are walking through a field, and you find something to eat. It doesn't have bones, and it doesn't have meat. You pick it up and put it into your pocket. You take it home and put it on a shelf, but 3 day's later it walks away. What is it?

A man was outside taking a walk when it began to rain. He did not have an umbrella and he wasn't wearing a hat. His clothes were soaked, yet not a single hair on his head got wet. How could this happen?

How well do you know your classic literature?

"What goes on four feet in the morning, two feet at noon, and three feet in the evening?"

How far can you walk into the forest?

What can you put in a barrel, that can be seen by the naked eye, that will make it lighter (in weight)?

A man.
Four feet (hands and knees, crawling) in the morning of life (childhood).
Two feet in the middle of life.
Three feet (feet and a cane) in the evening of life (elderlyhood?).

Never read Oedipus, though. I heard it somewhere else.

I can run but never walk. I have a mouth but never talk. I have a bed but
never sleep. I have a head but never weep.

Yep, that's the riddle of the sphinx. Retold in greek mythology and other mythologies as well. Very very famous and equally as old.

i'm gonna guess an egg that hatches, but that might be wrong because it's probably arguable that the little chick in the egg has bones and meat 3 days before it hatches...

A bucket is sitting out in the rain. If the wind begins to blow and rain starts falling at an angle, will the bucket fill up faster or slower, or will the rate of filling remain the same?

(a) Faster

(b) Slower

(c) Would fill at the same rate

C is correct!

ok try this one;

if you drop a steel ball weighing five pounds from a height of 45 inches, will it fall more rapidly through water at 20 degrees Fahrenheit or water at 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

(a) The ball will fall more rapidly through water 20 degrees Fahrenheit
(b) The ball will fall more rapidly through water 40 degrees Fahrenheit
(c) Both would fall at the same rate

Well.. technically.. :p

Doesn't it depend on the atmospheric pressure? Water won't freeze at certain pressures, even if it's at 20 degrees. *Nerdy AP Chem moment of the day*

So technically couldn't the answer be both? Hehe. Ok I'll shut up now :p

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel:
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

Extra credit if you know where it's from.

A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me $50, but if I cannot, I will pay you $50."

The boy looked around and saw no scale so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he'll just say he weighs more or less.

In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?

Pronounced as one letter,
And written with three,
Two letters there are,
And two only in me.
I'm double, I'm single,
I'm black, blue, and gray,

And the same either way.

So you are a bus driver and your picking up kids at a stop. The first stop you pick up 13 then drop of 7. Then pick up 31 and drop of 5 more. Then pick up 12 and drop of 22. How old is the bus driver?

The concept on that is old... but, hey, you can't have everything. :)

Well if I'm the bus driver, then she's 16 (almost 17!), but on a side note, there are 34 kids who didn't make it to school :ahh:

What time is it when an elephant sits on your fence? :p
