Sweet Serenade.

So... a quick question to the FIRST community.

I have a friend (you can refer to him as Lonely-in-Can-ayy-dia), and he's kinda in a predicament. He wants to sing to this girl he knows, but he doesn't know what songs to sing.

What songs do you recommend he sings her?

Thanks in Advance,
John

Would it be inappropriate to ask what the intended result of this crooning is?

I was gonna say "The Dance" by Garth Brooks, but it may be more appropriate for him to put his arm around her and in a drunken manner start hollering "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" (Listen to the Shania Twain song by that name).

You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling by the Righteous Brothers.

Re: Sweet Serenade.

Best Friend by Queen
You Light Up My Life (can be done very over-dramatically)
You Are My Sunshine (this song sung to Mr. Lavery earned several people pimp buttons)
Any song by Barry Manilow, though that may embarrass him more than her

that song from lambchop!!

this is the song that never ends. yes it goes on and on my friend. some people started singing it not knowin' what it was. and they'll continue singing it forver just because this is the song that never ends. yes it goes on and on my friend. some people started singing it not knowin' what it was. and they'll continue singing it forver just because this is the song that never ends. yes it goes on and on my friend. some people started singing it not knowin' what it was. and they'll continue singing it forver just because this is the song that never ends. yes it goes on and on my friend. some people started singing it not knowin' what it was. and they'll continue singing it forver just because.....

i cant believe i still remember that, though i do have a good memory. i guess its not that hard to remember considering it looped like 10 times at the end of every episode. ah, memories....

to be serious, though, he should sing a song that works well with his voice. people have different kinds of voices and different songs are made for different ones. can you imagine brittany spears trying to sing a slipknot song? barry white trying to sing a justin timberlake song? you gotta go with what fits your voice

Ok then -- I retract my suggestion, and am researching instrumental songs now. Instrumental will work very well with this particular voice. :D

Re: Sweet Serenade.

Well, if the goal is total embarassment of the girl, then Baby Got Back would do nicely.

Uhm...lemme see what else would work...(launches Winamp)

Barenaked Ladies - One Week
Macy Gray - I Try (with the raspy voice and everything)
Cake - I Will Survive (don't try that a capella, though)
Green Day - Minority (Just a shot in the dark)
Lionel Richie - Hello
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - Mona Lisa (I have their cover of the song...I dunno who actually sang it. Nat King Cole?)
Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freak On (Shoot, ANYTHING by Missy Elliott)
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Weird Al - Smells Like Nirvana (Okay, so the last two are the same. Ah well.)
Outkast - Bombs Over Baghdad
Outkast - Hey Ya (shake it like a Polaroid pic-shaaa!)
Wyclef Jean feat. The Rock - It Doesn't Matter
Wyclef Jean - Anything Can Happen
Wyclef Jean feat. The Bee Gees - We Trying to Stay Alive (better with backup, but you'll figure something out)

That's what I can think of. Your mileage may vary. Batteries not included. (what is this, the FIRST kit of parts? :D )

Re: Sweet Serenade.

Thought of a couple more:

NSYNC - This I promise you
Daniel Beddingfield - If you're not the one

Top Gun Maverick/Goose style, of course

"Cause she's lost that lovin' feeling"
"That lovin' feeling? Oh no no no"
"Oh but she has"
"I hate it when she loses that lovin' feeling"

Lol. Anyways. "Take My Breath Away" (Berlin), "Brown Eyed Girl" (Van Morisson), "Memory" (Sugarcult), "All for You" (Sister Hazel), "Somebody to Love" (Queen), and "The Reason" (Hoobastank) all work too. :)

Re: Sweet Serenade.

If he wants to serenade her, I'd recommend either Wonderwall or Champagne Supernova by Oasis, and also perhaps Sympathy or Slide by Googoo Dolls. Green Day's "Time of your life" is always fun. Uh...those are all easy to sing.

Re: Sweet Serenade.

Change In My Life by Billy Strauss is a really sweet song to sing to someone,

but if you really want to embarass her, sing that Stacy's Mom song, but use her name instead of stacy

Re: Sweet Serenade.

I just thought of one that I haven't seen listed yet.
Don't forget about Abba's "Take a Chance On Me". :)

Of course with the intention of embarassment you might want to try something from New Kids on the Block or Tiffany! :p Besides with all the good suggestions in this thread there's no reason you couldn't sing more than one song to her. :D

Wow... OK, well is this lonely canadian, lonely cause he wants the girl, or is he lonely cause he had the girl and wants her back??

I steal some dialogue from "Not Another Teen Movie"

"You have to sing a song with her name in it...."

"Janie's got a gun..."

"AHHHH!!! Get down, Janie's got a gun..."

Make like what's-his-face from 10 Things I Hate About You and sing "You're Just too Good to Be True", all while running away from the referees up and down the bleachers

Thank you all for your suggestions!

They are all being taken into consideration. I'll let you know how things turn out for our Canadian friend. Maybe I can post some video.

Re: Sweet Serenade.

How about Pressing LIps by the Pursuit of Happiness?

The god who made us made me mortal too
He gave me no special powers I could use on you
I've done all I can do
I can't give you the moon or the stars
But you can have the contents of my
Melancholy heart
What could mean more than a kiss right now
If you need a grand gesture, close your eyes and show me how (darling)
Pressing lips (honey)
Kiss me quick (sugar)
Mark my face with tangerine lipstick
Kiss me like you'll never
See me again (my angel)
Pressing lips
I could never want you more than this
Some boys will tell you they can make you complete
I won't presume that I'm the only thing you need
How unfair that would be
I can't move a mountain, swim a river deep
I won't make you supernatural promises
I can't keep
What could mean more than a kiss right now
If you need a grand gesture, close your eyes, I'll show you how (darling)
[chorus]
She's on her tip-toes to reach her mic
She smiles at Stewey
God, what a beautiful night

It's got a nice geeky charm that is more ernest and down to earth than most love songs.

What would ever give you that idea. ;)

I don't know who this Canadian could be, but rumour has it he's very good looking, and always gets the girl. :)

Sounds like a guy I would want to be my friend.

You know, I know that most FIRST people don't like a whole lot of attention brought to them.

Maybe it's better that this random Canadian guy just not sing to her? Can't he just give her a card or a hug, or just say hi?

That would just be way to easy, Amanda. If somebody is going to be serenaded, especially on their birthday AND at a robotics competition, it has got to be BIG!! And those Canadian folks, never know what to expect from them. What a coencidence that we moved IRI to your birthday and everything else has fallen into place...mouahahahaa :yikes:
