SO, we need a name for this video game thing. What do you think? Just throw some ideas out there. There will be a poll later. :)

We need a name for SourceForge. In terms of coding, a specific game is just an instance of it. We will be able to very rapidly add a new game.

But if you intend to make a video game for each new game that comes out the title should have a common name. The game title should included in the title but also something else to know the game by.

stack attack: *insert team name* (for whoever is putting all of their time and effort into making this, ex. stack attack: Digital Fusion)
stack attack: underground (just cuz N4SU was such an awesome game)

I just used last years game as a model, obviously you would replace it for w/e game its based on.
keep in mind, i was thinking of these as i was writing this post. I hope you like some of them. I thought i would get this thread going with some other peoples ideas on game names.

I think there is a misconception of what we are looking for. We want an Umbrella name for every game we do with this program. as in:
FIRST Video Game (FIRST Frenzy)
FIRST Video Game (Stack Attack)
FIRST Video Game (Toroid Terror)

[Let's face it: 'FIRST Video Game' is lame and long]

Hmm... I'm throwing this out there, but I proposed the name of "BotMatch" back in my post brainstorming ideas for the game (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...8&postcount=32). As I said, it's just an idea. I think BotMatch has a nice ring to it as well... if one of the goals of the video game is to promote FIRST, you'd need a flashy and catchy name; I believe that the general root of "BotMatch" (with additions regarding the name of the game, i.e. BotMatch: FIRST Frenzy) fits those standards. :)

what ever the name may be i think it should deffinitely have FIRST in the name. otherwise players might not catch that it's coming directly for what FIRST does

Not personal. We're just thinking that a more general name which applies to all the years would be better, as we are planning on eventually gettting them all running (in the same program, via, uh, "game files" for lack of a better name :)).

I believe it's a spoof of Grand Theft Auto. Since FIRST is located in Manchester, GTA: Manchester.
I would not reccomend this name. There are too many negative connotations that go along with it.

The question of a name for the video game brings up a key point. Is your game's audience primarily FIRST-ers, or is it intended to act as a promotion tool for FIRST Robotics? If the audience is going to be primarily FIRST-ers, then any of the names on Astronouth's list would be fine. However, if the game will act as a vehicle for FIRST promotion, you might want to choose a title that better appeals to the public, i.e. not a random acronym, the meaning of which hardly does justice to the game itself.

EDIT: Write a mission statement so that we might better grasp the significance of this game, such as to think of an appropriate title.

Good point. It will definetly be for FIRST-ers, but there may be the opportunity to use this for PR type things. For instance, there was demonstrations of a FIRST competition up at the NASA Glenn open house last weekend. It would have been the perfect place for this, as you could have allowed visitors to try it out themselves... :)

Whatever you do, don't pick that name. The Olympic committe is very very very uptight about any violation of their copyright. Anyone that followed the plight of the Robolympics knows that they were hounded. I'd have to dig up the articles from robots.net.

Im sorry. It's true though. In fact the word Oylmpic doesn't even fail under a regular trademark. There is some law that dictates the use of the word Olympic.I'm going on a hunch but wouldn't almost all of these names fall under the FIRST trademark since they all contain the word FIRST.
