Re: Class of 05: Where are You Applying?

I applied to 4:
  • University of Delaware--Mech. Eng--its cheap cause I'm instate, great town and their Eng. department is pretty good
  • Drexal--Mech. Eng--I already got accepted which suprised me, its close to home and its Drexal need I say more
  • RPI--Mech. Eng--one of my mentors went there and I like the equipment they had
  • RIT--Mech. Eng. automovite option--one of my mentors went there and I loved the campus and all the stuff they had

Re: Class of 05: Where are You Applying?

Yesterday was pretty awesome. Recieved a letter in the mail from Norwich University (was accepted back in September) stating I had been awarded a scholarship. A pretty nice scholarship. Half the tuition, renewable for all four years. (That's more than $40,000). I'm psyched! :D

That was after accepting my team's sponsor's monetary contribution to the team, and before ace-ing my Calculus 1 final exam. Pretty awesome.

Congratulations everyone who has been accepted to colleges.

Happy Holidays, everyone! :)

Well, I've gotten a post card from Sac State telling me that they're processing my application.

And I also got a packet in the mail from the Sac State college of Engineering and CS telling me to join their helpful program.

But I haven't received an acceptance letter yet...

Yay! Got into MIT early action!

Congrats to everyone else who got accepted, and good luck to those who didn't.

Suggestion for this year's juniors who want to go to MIT: Get into RSI - its awesome and you get to work at MIT for 6 weeks over the summer. The research projects you do there can get you lots of scholarship money.

I was accepted to the University of Missouri - Rolla a couple months ago, I will be entering doing the mechanical engineering program. But they recently just approved of a new engineering course that is called Entertainment Engineering, which is what I will probably switch too, since I want to do things in the Amusment Park Industry.

Cornell will meet any need that you have if you get accepted. Do the FAFSA, find your estimated family income, and Cornell will find you money above and beyond that.

Also, why not get a FIRST scholarship? About $500,000 went unclaimed last year because no one applied. Free money unclaimed.

If your family earns less than $40,000/yr, Harvard will give you a free ride.

Then again, I'm biased towards going to Cornell because I live here and want to get out. :) :)

Re: Class of 05: Where are You Applying?

I applied to seven schools:

Scripps College
Stanford University
George Washington University
Washington University in St. Louis
Duke University
University of Pennsylvania
Denver University

and a foreign exchange program to spend a year in Germany, but I won't hear from any of them until late March and early April. It would be driving me crazy if I were letting myself think about it, but I still have scholarship apps to finish, and robotics is starting in two days, so by the time I remember that I'm going to college next year, it'll be less than a month until I start hearing from them.

I applied to University of Delaware but could not get in because of the fact i did not have 2 full years of a foreign language.
I got accepted to Wesley college in DE but i declined because they didn't have the major i wanted and it also cost way way to much.
I am now going to attend Del tech :_ so i can get my RN then i plan on going to UD for my masters in nursing.
I am also going to be attending another school that is only for EMT training but i don't think that counts for what this thread is asking.

Congrats to all the others who got accepted to these great schools listed in the posts above.

Hey, anyone hear from Northeastern yet? I'm kind of confused on when the engineering school sends out acceptances. Everyone I know who is majoring in something education or health related has already gotten their acceptance letters!

And, any Norwich people here? Looks like that is where I'll be next year unless a bigger scholarship comes through. Looking forward to it. =) Guess I'll be helping out team 885.

I got my acceptance letter to NEU a week or 2 ago, but I applied in early december, and other people i know who applied later havent heard anything yet, so i wouldnt be worried. NEU accepted me, but for a different major in a different COLLEGE than I applied for :ahh: hahahaha classic.

I've decided to go to Salve Regina University in Newport RI, anyway. Woohoo I'm going to college!!!! Gosh only 6 more months.

Good job. When are you crazy kids coming to take over the campuses for Candidate's Weekend?

For those of you who havent read the 80 other threads about Olin & Babson, Olin's land was bought off an undeveloped part of the original Babson College purchase, so we're really in eachother's backyards.
It's definitely different on the weekends when the candidates come, especially since I'm a FIRSTer. I'll be walking around campus, and my "engineer sense" starts going crazy, if you will. :p

I got back from Olin's Candidates' Weekend yesterday morning. It was a pretty unique experience seeing the small group of people who I could possibly be going to school with this fall. The experience provided a very detailed look at Olin although I am still unsure as to where I want to go. Heck, more than half my schools haven't sent stuff back yet so I'm not worrying yet.

Re: Class of 05: Where are You Applying?

My list goes sorta like this:

Tier One:
Harvard / Stanford / Caltech
Tier Two:
Cornell / MIT
Teir Three:
University of Michigan

The tiers are as the schools relate to what I want. I'm pretty sure I could go to any of those schools and have a great experience and set me up for the future... but some of those schools seem to fit me more than others.

Currently:
Caltech and UofM = accept
MIT = reject
Cornell and Harvard = within the next weekish
Stanford = two long weeks

Purdue FIRST Programs puts on the regional and we are always looking for student help. It is a year-round process. But if you have time, why not be part of a team? We have two good ones you know (461 and 1646). After the expansion to two teams, we need all of the devoted tech advisors we can get. So keep an eye out for the callout, it is usually right around that first week of school.

Go Boilers

Applied and Accepted to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).. RIT gives out bad financial aid though.

If anybody is going to RIT send me a PM.. I don't know anybody going there :( ...also if ur at nationals stop by the 1071 pit and ask for kev and somebody will point me out, direct connect me on nextel, or call me (odds are i'll be in the pits staying out of trouble)

Colleges I looked at:
Northeastern - would be at more red sox games than classes.. didnt apply
UConn (Storrs) - offered half tution but didn't apply because they don't have my major and I'd be more into watching basketball than doing homework

Wesley (sp?) - offered 8k a year but liberal arts school
Ohio Domincian - offered 8k a year but liberal arts school
MSCE - offered 10k a year but just looking at the site, it's not very impressive of a school

Yeah, I live in Napa, which is about 50 miles North of San Francisco.

I applied to Sac State and got accepted, but I've decided I'm going to go the Junior College route. I just don't have enough money to attend a University right now! Plus, my new house is almost finished. I want to live in it for a year or two before I move away!
