So I Robot hits theatres here tomorow. Who else is going to go see it, for the sheer relief of it having the word Robot in it?

Watch the trailer. Be disappointed. Run the other way.

Hmm ... seems likes the movie will either be reaaly good or really awful. In any case, I'll probably still go see it.

The car in the trailer looks pretty cool. ;)

Robots robots! I love robots. The only reason I wanna see it is because, to tell the truth, the robots give them all a fair whipping at the beginning til the humans start being all heroic. Rights for robots...it should be a movement. I made that up. :).

I'll be going to see it, mainly because i'll probably never read the book by Isaac Asimov. :p

From what I can gather, the two are only distently related.

I, Robot was a collection of short storys, most of them centered around the logic puzzle of The 3 Laws (how robots managed to seemingly brake laws that they could not). It was basicly Sherlock Holmes does robots.

The movie seems to be more of a 'fear technology' plot. But maybe the advertising has been misleading.

I'll probably see it.

Actually there is a good reason to always approach new technologies with a little fear. I was reading about how people were injecting themselves with a little radium because it made them feel healthy. It was amazing. People were dying just because everyone blissfully believed radiation was healthy. Also I just started reading the introduction and I realized that their is a whole feeling of a fear of technology.

It's called an archetype or a standard story line. And your mistaken if it's only been used recently. The word robot originated from a very old play where robots take over human kind. Also, ideas of robotics can even be traced as far as the Greeks. That would be the equivalent of saying every single detective story is trite since it was created by Poe. Moreover, almost every show or movie can be made to seem trite if you strip it to it's archetype.

"Rossums Universal Robots", written by Czech playwrite Karel Capek and first performed in 1920 (although there is a competing theory that it was actually written by his brother, and Karel Capek was willingly given credit). Anyway, "pppfffttt!!" from all of us that are old enough to think that 1920 wouldn't make it a "very old play." :)

Sorry. I didn't think it was that new. Though it still predates Hal by at least 60 years. Though I am still certain that the concept of a robot has been around since the greeks even though the name was created 80 years ago.

I'll probably nab it on DVD, depending on how the reviews are. Although it does have Alan Tudyk in it... (bonus points if you get this reference of me)
