Re: pic: FIRST in CT
It seems to me that you are mssing teams 236 from Old Lyme and 521 from Waterford..... Other than that it looks pretty good
P.S. what are those arrows for between towns? |
Re: pic: FIRST in CT
I wonder if some one's written a program to do this...

Re: pic: FIRST in CT
Holy Cow! There are way more teams in Connecticut than I thought. It looks like someone drove down a freeway and recruited everyone in their path. Maricopa County (Phoenix metro area) alone is twice Connecticut's size, but we have less than half of the number of teams. That's insane.

Re: pic: FIRST in CT
It does, doesn't it?
What's so special about #558? And how about the thing above 500? |

Re: pic: FIRST in CT
i always knew CT had a lot of teams, but wow.
Also, 173 should cover like 3 towns, lol but that's ok:D we're fine since our main meeting place is EH |
Re: pic: FIRST in CT
Yeah 1071 is like almost like 173, we cover mostly (like 98% of team) from wolcott HS but has kids from Kaynor Tech (waterbury) and Bristol TEC (Bristol)too.. Team 228 I think has like 3 or 4 schools part of them too.

Re: pic: FIRST in CT
Sorry, 236 and 521 did get chopped off on accident. I uploaded a fixed one.
I also took an educated guess for 716. They're officially from Falls Village, but it's not on the map. The logo should be in the general area though. If it's wrong, let me know and I'll fix it. And, yes. most teams are either right off I-84 or I-91. And the teams on the coast are near I-95. |

I might do one for Ohio if I get bored tonight. Unless someone else from Ohio wants to do it...... :)

Re: pic: FIRST in CT
someone should make a national vecctor based map, that shows all of the teams in the us. In the meantime, a separate gallery category would help.

Re: pic: FIRST in CT
I like how CT has most of the 170 series numbers......173, 175, 176, 177, and 178. There are more teams here in CT than I previously thought. :)
Now if we could get another team up near Norfolk or Colebrook we could have the northwest corner taken care of. The problem is these towns have more farm animals than people! :p |

All those #170 something teams that you mentioned have UTC as a sponsor. Juust like almost all of the #40 something teams have (had) Delphi as a sponsor. There's a bit of FIRST history for you! |

The Kaynor Tech students (now grads) still stop by once in a while and help out where they can. Just think how RAGE (or other multiple school based teams) would look like if their school's administration was as closed minded as ours. |

Re: pic: FIRST in CT
For some reason, this image is not displaying properly...its the only image i've ever seen malfunction on this computer...
(All i get is red x in white circle) EDIT: I got it to work, and it looks great! I really don't have a very good mental map of CT,so I got to see where some of these people I talk to actually come from. Also, what Elgin said about the teams being alphabetically ordered by sponsor was correct, but I'll add a bit. Only the first 191 teams are done like this. Team numbers were randomly assigned until the 1998 season when the teams were given static numbers based on sponsor alphabetically. Team one had a sponsor of 3D systems, and 191 had/has Xerox. Based on our website, their were random team numbers for one year, in 97. Ours was 59. One day I was walking through the shop when I see this monocaulk (spelling) arm in the corner, which has a big 59 on it. I'm not sure as to why it was there. After that, they assigned team numbers randomly (except perhaps by date of joining the program. |
Re: pic: FIRST in CT

http://babbage.clarku.edu/~djoyce/ge...conntowns.html It seems the arrows point back to the 'parent towns'. Isn't that cute? The towns had babies! It's referring to which towns were created first and who created, well, rookie towns. Map for tomarrow: New Hampshire, I'm claiming it now. |

I secretly hope that fundraising is a full time effort for all teams, whether they have big industrial corporate sponsors (NASA, Delphi, GM) or not. I think that fundraising is a key ingredient in a team's development and growth, and hope that the teams with large corporate sponsorships are not just "handed everything on a silver platter" so to speak. I know personally with our team, we have a wonderful main sponsor that has been with us for all 6 years of the teams existence, and they help out in any way they can, and we are greatful. But I think that having the team members having to go through the process of applying for grants, and writing to new sponsors and even holding fundraising events like car washes, and ziti dinners is key to the team's togetherness and it's success. But.. this topic is for another post all together. </tangent> |
Re: pic: FIRST in CT
In regards to the questions about 716, Falls Village is the other name for Canaan. I suppose we should state that huh? And, if you want to get really technical... we are a combination of a bunch of towns... North Canaan, Canaan, Sharon, Kent, Cornwall, and Lakeville/Salisbury. Haha! Have fun covering that! ;)
