Feel the need to Chime in...
Hello Everyone,
I'd like to chime in about the streaming issues. I watched VCU yesterday, and I to was slightly frustrated. I have a cable modem at my house and so my connection was not contributing to the less than 30 frames per second video we'd all love. Some things to consider. One, last year NASATV covered footage...which meant better streams (broadcast.com) and also for those lucky enough to get NASATV they could watch it on TV. This is a tremendously exciting time for the space program that have just completeled quite possibly the most complex space walk ever to service the Hubble Telescope. One of the components, a power supply, was never designed to be replaced on orbit and the astronauts executed the procedure so flawlessly they made it look easy. If anyone doubts that this is a huge engineering feet worthy of converage by NASA's own TV channel plase see spaceflightnow.com for their extensive overview of the spacewalk. Congrats to NASA on a successful mission. Also, NASA tries very hard with their streams. Not more than 3 years a go we all had to go to regionals. A few things complicate this whole process though. One growth of the FIRST community cannot be under estimated. I'd figure that there are well into the 1000's of people trying to watch a single stream coming out of a regional. To allocate that kind of bandwidth requires a tremendous commitment financially, and techically. So also consider that. I applaud NASA for providing this service to the FIRST commnity as well as they have with what they have for the past few years. Thanks, Justin |
