Fantasy FIRST IRI Invite Division

Welcome to the Invite only division for IRI, subtitled "Help America get its pride back". After that rascally Canadien, Karthik, ran away with the Battlecry division, we see 5 returning challengers and 4 newcomers to try to take the title.

The participants are:

Re: Fantasy FIRST IRI Invite Division

From what i learned in the battlecry division.... based on the draft positions, Chris has the best shot at winning this division... he has the #5 pick, teh #10 pick, and hte #2 pick... 2 solid first and second round draftpicks, and an incredible third round steal will win it for him...

time will tell...

Good luck ya'll

Youuuu dingleberry, you took them out from right under me! Well done! I will take the ever present team number 33, Killa Beez!

Karthik, its your turn...do your worst!

Can I have 1114? What about 188?

Sigh. Since there aren't any Canadian teams, I'll take team 27.

HHSJosh is up.

The northeast may be all about style, but the West Coast is all about winning.

I'll take Team 980, The Thunderbots.

JVN - your fan club is watching. Don't let them down with your first pick! Yer up.

Re: Fantasy FIRST IRI Invite Division

Ya know, for someone so popular, JVN is awfully darn slow with his Fantasy FIRST picks. How dare he think that he can run a real life and balance his Fantasy FIRST team at the same time! Maybe he's just scared that he'll end up in last place again ;)

As for the rest of you, Battlecry was a warmup. Now, its the Evil Empire's turn to show that even with midwest teams to pick from, I am still strategy king! Karthik is going down this time!!!

Just bring it!

What a pairing!
Gotta love it!

Heh....48....riiiight....good luck with that crazy outfit....especially if a certain Canadian weasels his way into coaching their drive team. Crazier things have happened.... :)

Boy this is a tough one. I got two teams in mind, but I'm gonna pick the battle-tested, 51-19-0, postseason vets and PARC Champions - Team 222. After a last minute status report from one of their team members, I've been assured their robot is ready to rock and their drive team is ready to kick some butt anew after their uncharacteristic showing at WPI.

HHSJosh, may your next pick send a dagger through Karthik's black heart and forever dash his hopes of a repeat FF victory against the walls of Lawrence North High School!

I will try, and so I pick Team 808, they're not west coast, but they are #1 rank.

Karthik, I dare you to make a stronger alliance, none of your Canadian teams here!

Don't forget about his singing voice. You may have to bear witness to that *amazing talent* at IRI as well....

But then again, you've never heard me sing....

It seems multiple Canadians are infatuated with their hair (Steve!). Hmm, Karthik was originally a Woburner like Steve W for many years. Maybe it's just a condition that develops after being affiliated with 188 so long? When can I expect to see Mark Breadner sporting a permanent wave? Perhaps a Disco Stu 'fro? :D

Yes, but what hair it is. Wow. The four step regiment of wax, gel, finishing polish and hair spray does wonders.

Yes, with Karthik, you get the best of both worlds - the singing AND the hairdo. It's only a matter of time before the stars align for this budding star and the whole world gets to experience the amazing talent that only we fortunate FIRST few currently enjoy.

Before the fantasy alliances start trading, you should be aware that Team 71 has never won the IRI. We got #1 seed a couple of times, but that is it.

Our high school basketball teams from NW Indiana have the same trouble when going down state. We are beginning to think it is something in the drinking water.

Thought you folks should know.

I was thinking about "going with God" (they're a Christian school, get it?) and picking a very good 107 team (who performed really well at Canada's Wonderland, FYI), but I'm intrigued by a team who helped sweep an alliance of 494 and 67 to win a regional. Whether they're lucky or good or both, winning 17 times in a season is no easy feat, so they must be doing something right. I'm going to go with Team 1243. Win pretty, win ugly - I don't care. Just win, baby!

Joe Ross - you're up, and there aren't any more Connecticut teams left. ARRRGH, what are you going to do????????????

I guess I'll have to convince 175 to go to IRI ;)

Joe Ross 28-06-2004 11:49

Re: Fantasy FIRST IRI Invite Division

Now, to pick a team that hasn't been picked already been picked...

I'll go with 107. Joel picked them at 18 in division 1, and they've fallen to 28 here, plus Travis likes them, so they can't be that bad.

I was considering keeping up the east coast thing with 1083, though.

So it's JVN and then Andy Grady and we're done.

JVN 28-06-2004 12:03

Paul, I love ya anyway man...

Hmmm... decisions, decisions...This is a tough one.
First time I've been in an FF league and not been scraping the barrel at the end.

After much thought I'm going to go with team 217, the Thunderchickens.

I figure with Paul being the MC, he can't coach.
That "handicap" gives them their best chance at winning a competition this season. ;)

Joshua May 28-06-2004 12:05

Re: Paul, I love ya anyway man...

Allright, Grady's up with the very last pick.

I just looked at the regular season and championship W-L-T results. And if those were to directly reflect the matches at IRI, which I'm sure they won't, Joel would get a definite 1st place. With myself and Koko Ed tied for second. Then come Grady/Hoffman/Karthik in about equal running, followed by Andy Baker and Joe Ross. Bringing up the rear would be Chris and John V-neun.

I can only hope that this does reflect the scores, since Karthik would surely not win! :D

Re: Fantasy FIRST IRI Invite Division

Yea, Chris sure showed you all...ha!

Travis Hoffman 16-07-2004 12:13

Re: Fantasy FIRST IRI Invite Division

Joe Ross: 571, 716, 107
JVN: 461, 48, 217
Koko Ed: 71, 378, 1038
Joel J.: 45, 292, 93
Karthik: 27, 111, 66
Andy Grady: 33, 65, 930
Andy Baker: 469, 868, 234
Chris: 494, 190, 447
T. Hoffman: 47, 222, 1243
HHSJosh: 980, 808, 1272

If we use the Score = (2 * Wins) + Ties formula like the last invite only division, after performing seconds of extremely simplistic calculations in my head that do not require a score of 800 on the SAT math exam, I have officially determined that Karthik did not win. Let us all rejoice at this happy fact.

Even though they weren't there, I say we give Karthik and Joe the final records of 66 and 107 as determined by the teams substituting for them during the IRI. I'd be pretty happy with 107 as they were actually the 8th seed!

I'm looking forward to some concrete results.

from the looks of things i'd say that HHSJosh came in first followed by Andy Baker...of course I have no idea of the actual numbers I'm just guessing from what I remember...but since he has the #2 and #4 seeds...i'd say he won.

Ok. To determine the scores of each player, I calculated the score of each robot chosen. The method used was nothing knew, I just doubled the number of wins and added any ties.

The spreadsheet I used is attached. You can check the results for yourself.
PHP Code:

Rank    Player            1st Pick    2nd Pick    3rd Pick    Score
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Karthik, I dare you to make a stronger alliance, none of your Canadian teams here!

I'm a little busy right now, give me a call in two weeks, then we'll talk. ;)

JVN picked 48 eh? I guess he caught wind of who may be doing the field coaching for them. Apparently this pinch hitter knows what he's doing...

Ready to talk yet. ;)

Wow.. The John-V Neun...Last in the battlecry Division, and second to last in the IRI division....Hey buddy i think its time to retire from Fantasy FIRST... ... Guess you'll have to listen to the 229er's that finished a respectable 5th and 6th when it comes to stratgey from now on..

I think you might be right man.
Maybe it's time to rethink the way I play the FF game.

As far as actual match strategy goes -- stick to the pit crew kid, let the "pros" run the matches. Joel is more than capable of keeping me in line. ;) I didn't hear you complaining this season.

Ed,
I'll have a brand new 2005-229 shirt with your name on it, in Rochester next year. Good show.

This division was definitely a fun time. Hopefully we can do more "small" divisions next season. (Different competitions, "season long" competitions, etc). Fun stuff!

Thanks to Joe Ross for starting things up. Good idea Joe, I'll have a 229 shirt for you as well. (Jeez... it's August and already I owe like 5 of the not-yet-created shirts to people).

Take Care,

John
