Re: Summer Employment?

I've been working since early May, when school got out as a CNC operator at my grandpa's comapany. We machine tooling for injection molds, and metal stampings, which they do in the other building. I'm really lucky to have this opportunity, and it is very cool.

A few weeks ago the company even paid for me to go to a week long SolidWorks class, where I got the basics of modeling on SolidWorks...very cool.

Oh, and I also DJ. We've done 4 or 5 grad parties so far and we have a few more. We're just starting to advertise for next school year....which reminds me, if you live in Michigan and know anyone in the "in" for dances, let me know!

I'll start off...

I'm working this summer at ABB, in Auburn Hills, MI. ABB (ASEA Brown Boveri) is an international company that builds power and automation systems. Here in Auburn Hills, we work mainly with industrial robots for manufacturing plants. My job this summer is as an intern in the Robot Products Group, doing mainly programming work. So, that's my job... what's yours?

Yeah, I work at CNC Software which is the company which makes MasterCam (www.mastercam.com). I do mostly Land scaping and if you saw the place you'd understand why its a full time job. The company makes MasterCam as i've said but what it does is tells a CNC Machine how to cut out certain parts. Your computer, if its a dell or something like that and has an ingraving on it with the company name or something it was probably made using MasterCam on a CNC Machine. FisherPrice uses MasterCam to make all sorts of stuff (motors, sprockets, anything...). K thats it.

I work as a help desk dude at a large California Investment firm. I love this job because I get to use this very cool wireless headset with an equally cool 4+ line phone. I also have a bunch of computers sitting in front of me. My job is working with the other techs and taking calls from employees in the complex and also helping people in the field. Great people, great firm, great pay!

We used MasterCam last summer, it's a pretty good software. We now use WorkNC because that's what they guy there now knows, and the parts are very complex, modeled with UniGraphics and then the cutter paths are ran in WorkNC.
