What?
I don't get it. I saw the web cast and was there... wait.... NEW RULING! You can deploy a mechanism to the end zone IN ANY WAY. The catch is if the goal is in the way and hits it or goes under it, they will be DQ'ed. If a team pushes the goal over on purpose to DQ them, they will be DQ'ed. |
hey
I know the bunching of the carpet might be problems... Does the carpet seem pretty stable or loose? |
Very stable, looking at it right now. It has not been altered in any way yet. Did you guyes see Dean? I got him to sign my hat and program.:D

Also, does IN ANY WAY mean that projectiles and the like are now allowed? |
More specifically...
What they said this morning(at least my understanding of it), is not that they were not going to call entanglement at all, but rather based on what they had seen, none of the devices at this particular event(and perhaps at KSC as well) were deemed to be an entanglement risk, and therefore any claims to the contrary would be disregarded. This does NOT, in my opinion, open up a "free-for-all" on what can be used for a send home device. However, that is just my opinion, and I could be wrong...

There were a few end zone arms that appeared to be illegal to me. I saw some tape measure ones, which had been specifically disallowed, as well as other questionable ones. But, perhaps this 'kinder and gentler' FIRST was able to see that the purpose was not to entangle other bots. In the end though, I didn't see any DQs for entanglement - nor did it ever happen. I think MOE #365 was the first DQ in the nation for this season -- woohoo! good thing it was easy to fix :)

From being at VCU, I heard the same as Nate, they said specifically that none of the devices at that competition would be called for entangling. The reason given was that all the devices they had seen deployed at practice were designed to not be entangling.
And yes, one team had the tape measure we noticed, I even saw one of the ref's pointing it out as they tested it's extension a couple feet (never saw them actually deploy it over a distance into their endzone). I'm not sure that any call was made on that. |
