Dodgeball the movie taking ideas from FIRST?!?!?!??!

Has anybody seen the Movie "Dodgeball"?? The playing field that they play on in Las Vagas looks a little bit like the FIRST playing field (I.E. dimentions, and the plexiglas walls). I will try to find a picture of the playing field later, but I just kinda found that funny when I was watching the movie (this could probably go in the "you know your addicted to FIRST when....... thread).

Though I have not seen the movie, I wil add that a lot of sport have plexiglass walls around them. Take hockey for example, and then there was the movie about trhe sport "Rollerball" - Also had a plexi side.

It would be interesting though, to find out where the inspiration for the field layout came from for "Dodgeball, The Movie" Maybe that will be in the production notes when the DVD comes out??

You are definately addicted to FIRST though for pointing that out - Congratulations! :D

Yeah, but Elgin -- the Dodgeball playing field only had plexi at the ends, like the FIRST field. It wasn't like hockey or arena football where its all the way around. I didn't notice it when I saw the movie, but now that it was brought up .. very odd.

the field only has plexiglass on the ends because that is where the balls are generally thrown. still, safety should have been better

Plexiglass walls? Throwing balls? Sounds like Frenzy to me.

Actually, I think it'd be kinda neat to see a dodgeball game played on a 2004 field, sans the platform (or at least the goals). I mean, you know it'd be fun to see guys running scared from the ball dumps.

(but if you get hit with the ten point ball, do you get taken down twice as badly?)

You'd have to keep the mobile goals. I can just see Ben Stiller rolling down the field taking cover inside of a mobile goal. :D

Actually, when I think about it, you probably couldn't get much cover from a mobile goal. I can remember plenty of teams scoring on Archimedes where the balls slipped through the pipes.

We'll have to revert back to the goals used in 2001 then...
The cage dancer specials.

It's sad cause when they showed the field in Dodgeball I immediately thought that the way the lighting and everything was that it reminded me of a FIRST setup. Lol. Yea, crazy stuff.
