As for Team 66 Fundraising, we did a bottledrive of 2 neighborhoods first thing this summer, a car wash in late June, then in late July and early this month, we helped out a pair of local politicians get their name known before the August 3rd primary. We've been also assisting an amusement company run games, concessions and rides over at a couple picnics with the school ROTC program. The two picnics were for the local Federal Mogul and the UAW. Quite fun. The next fundraiser we'll be running will be at a heritage festival and we'll be selling misc. stuff and offering people to goto restaurants where we'll get a portion of the money used to buy food.

461 is thinking more about Outreach right now. We went to the Indiana state fair, and it shows how "different" Indiana really is. They had a booth for "The World's fastest Lawn Mower" from the hit Discovery Channel series American Chopper. There was also a "Register to vote" booth that only showed pictures of George W. Bush and governor contender Mitch Daniels. There was a life-size stand-up poster of George W. Bush, and I can happily say that I am taller than him. Quite a few passed by, and watched our robot lift its arms up and down and pick up and dispense small balls and cap and uncap a 4' goal 230 times and took a handful of breath mints. Some even said their children might be interested in FIRST robotics. Look for them in central Indiana teams this fall. Team 1024 was there too, and by the end of the day, repetitious finger movements paid off when Indiana First Lady Judy O'Bannon (She Looked like Judy O'Bannon, but she might have been Mrs. Kernan) came by and talked to Mr. Florence, and became quickly impressed with the FIRST program. Now the state of Indiana might give money and support to the over 20 teams in the state.
There have been several ideas, too. We were thinking of mentoring a rookie team next year in Logansport, and we will mentor IHOT (Team 1414 from the Atlanta International Academy [they are really nice people]) this fall and spring. We are also participating in more of Purdue's fairs and events, maybe even the Job Fair (which could help connect us with industries to donate money to 461). I also suggested to mentor Matt Adams (who maintains www.playlemonland.com) to have an official Play Lemonland lemonade stand, but nothing materialized out of it. It is the thought that counts.

I just received a notice about cell phone recycling as a school fundraiser - they say they'll pay UP TO $25 per cell phone. Has anyone tried this or thought about doing this? Even if they only pay $10 per phone, 100 phones recycled (5 phones per team member on average), that's $1000. Hmmm... I wonder if it is that easy. Feedback?

We did a car wash as a benefit for 'Relay for Life' and then participated in two area Relays.

For us, we're doing a Chuck's Chicken BBQ on Labor Day weekend. One of the local merchants lets us set up in his parking lot. He supplies BBQ pit, sauce, and storage for the raw chicken. For a one-day project, it's probably been one of our best money makers.
