Just out of curiosity, do regionals usually shift weeks from one season to the next?

If not, then it's pretty safe to put Palmetto in Week 5.

In 2003, the Pacific Northwest Regional (In Seattle, WA) was in the 2nd week of regionals.

In 2004, the Pacific Northwest Regional moved to Portland, OR, and was the 1st week of regionals. (It moved to Oregon, because there were more Oregon teams then Washington teams in 2003 :( and it didn't make a whole lot of sense making all of them drive up to Seattle. But in 2004, I think there were about the same number, because we started a whole bunch of new teams in WA :)

Re: 2005 Regionals

Dates change depending on 2 things. First is the arena availability and second is the field availability. FIRST has only so many fields and they must be shipped around. Because of this they try to balance out the number of regionals on any given weekend. There are also contracts for the venues. These contracts can be for one or multiple years.

I believe that FIRST announces the dates in September but I could be wrong. All of the ducks must be in order before they will announce.

Here's an updated version reflecting this announcement http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...threadid=29832.

Please remember that this list is based rumours and speculation. The regional dates are only official when FIRST publishes them.

Week 1: Rochester
Week 2: Florida
Week 3: Purdue, New Jersey, Long Island
Week 4: Waterloo, Philadelphia, Southern California
Week 5: Greater Toronto, Western Michigan

Is it just me-or is it kind of pointless to hold 2 regionals within 50 miles of each other on the same weekend? One or the other is gonna go wayy down in attendence.

Not necessarily. If you have an area with enough teams to support 2 regionals worth of teams on the same weekend, then both could be packed. Plus, when you have regionals that are "wayy down in attendance" from local teams, you usually end up with teams traveling from farther away to attend. It's really not a problem to fill two regionals, like that. Almost every regional is filled to capacity each year, no matter what the circumstances.

or maybe if there are that many teams in one area there could be a super regional like the canadian regional that way you can accomodate all the teams in the area on ONE weekend.....hmmmm just a thought, I know that certain areas are thinking about it...

Re: 2005 Regionals

Thats probably it, because i remembered hearing talks of NJ possibly becoming a Super Regional. So i guess to take away from that they made LI the same time.

Of course they will both be packed still, but some teams expected at NJ, might go to LI now. :(

And i am pretty sure there wont be any teams traveling to the NJ regional, because the new Midwest regional is happening then, aswell as SOcal happening the weekend after, i doubt any teams do both coasts at once. And Florida is the week before too, so i dont expect them to travel up.
