I still believe that the South will rise again--or for once? I'm not sure.

Midwest was just the first region that came to mind (nothing against any teams there), and I'm sure theirs always a few new teams that are just awsome right away, but for teams here in the northeast that are only 1-4 years old, we'd stand a better chance outside of here. Even the new teams here are tough, 1071 was part of team 228 probably since their 2nd or 3rd year, and from what I hear in general from some people here we are not the only team like that. Every region has some teams that have a lot of experience or that are fairly new but just hit the nail on FIRST robots, but the odds are a team that is pretty much average in the northeast would do better somewhere else. but that's how I feel and a few of my teammates feel.

this thread might help you out. although it's silly, and towards the end ended up being midwesterners vs. northeasterners, some good and researched information on the regions of robotics occured in the first few pages, that might help out where your team is looking to go to do better. you might also find some amusement in reading some of the experienced and respected people both in FIRST and CD arguing like schoolkids.

by the way, the midwest seems to be quite the region to beat, but i'm not starting this all up again.
 ;)

This may be a dumb question, but what's the tentative date for 2005 Championships?

I certainly hope that continues and there are no events planned.

Hey, who can forget about the past 2 years winner of the MWR...45. Hehe :p I think MWR is a very high level comp, that some of the best teams go to. I also think the Purdue Regional will have really stiff compititon this year...I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT!!! It is so close to Kokomo so we don't have to get up at like 2 AM this time. I hope an all Indiana alliance wins the Purdue Regional...I am thinking 71, 45, 461 or 45,234,292 or really any Indiana combination can do good. Hopefully, Purdue will be more like IRI then the normal regionals.

The last time Easter was in March (2002), FIRST had 3 regionals that weekend. Before that, there were few enough regionals that they could easily work around Easter.

I know they would like to avoid Easter, but I don't think that is feasible.

Unfortunately when Easter happens to fall in March it's out of FIRST's hands, like this year. Since Easter does fall in March, that means about 1/5 (probably 5 - give or take 1) of the regionals will be held on Easter weekend - nothing they can do about it.

The positive is that now there are MANY more options for teams to choose from than the last time Easter was in March. So at least if any teams decide they just can't compete that weekend (even if it's their "local" or closest event), they will have other regionals in other weeks to choose as an alternate which were not options in the past.

if you look on that image it has the 2005 Planned FRC regionals.
Nevada
Indiana
Ontario
New York

I think we will get official dates from FIRST soon

If the map shows any geographic accuracy, i can tell you now that the 'Nevada' planned 2005 regional would be somewhere near the small town of Tonopah (about 3000 people). There is no other town nearby. Tonopah is about 4 hrs from Las Vegas... I think it would be quite cool to have a regional in LV, show what this city is really about - not just Gambling, Adult Entertainment, and Alcohol. There is a sophisticated side to our ever growing city. I still want to see the official FIRST release... it should be soon i guess...

And, in addition, FIRST regionals run Thursday-Saturday, so you're actually avoiding the Easter holiday itself, anyways.

On that note, my team attended the Midwest Regional on Easter weekend in 2002, and it was actually a good thing (from our school's perspective, at least) because we had that Friday off anyways, and therefore only missed 1 day of school instead of 2. So, there are plusses to having Easter weekend regionals, too.

Superregional. Week of the 14th is when the Academy has the field house blocked off for FIRST.
http://www.usna.edu/Schedules/pdf/000128.pdf

While FIRST may not have annoucened to us yet when they are, many of the venues are already scheduled and have announced what they are holding when.

VCU is a week 1 regional.

Re: 2005 Regionals

So that makes week 3-Purdue, NJ, Long Island, and Chesapeake.

There goes our plans of going to NJ and Chesapeake. Wouldve been fun to be at a superregional.

And not to go off and start another rant, but i think its a little compacted after adding chesapeake there, because i know of at least 4 teams that wouldve went to NJ and Ches, or possibly LI.
