Life-Changing Song
Have you ever heard a song that really changed your outlook on anything--life, family, friends, etc.? Post it here, and how it made you think. I don't know if this has been done yet (I seem to have a reputation of posting things already done... :ahh:) but I'd like to see your opinions.

Re: Life-Changing Song
The song "Defying Gravity" from Wicked really inspired me in a lot of ways. It's a musical playing on Broadway in NYC right now, and if you see it, it's just wow.
At the time I had a lot of hard decisions on my mind and things I wasn't sure about and people I was having issues with, and it just kinda inspired me to look beyond that. Hard to explain. Cool thread. props to you. |
Re: Life-Changing Song
"America" by Simon and Garfunkel.
"Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together." "I've got some real estate here in my bag..." So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies and walked off to look for America. "Kathy," I said, as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburg "Michigan seems like a dream to me now. It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw; I've gone to look for America." Laughing on the bus, playing games with the faces... She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy. I said, "Be careful, his bowtie is really a camera!" "Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat." "We smoked the last one an hour ago." So I looked at the scenery, and she read her magazine... and the moon rose over an open field. "Kathy, I'm lost" I said, though I knew she was sleeping. "I'm empty and aching and I don't know why..." Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike - they've all gone to look for America All gone to look for America All gone to look for America... |
Re: Life-Changing Song
Well, as i said in... actually, my last post... i want to write books. well, i've been working on and expanding one idea for a really long time, and i would always sit and think about the weak areas of the plotline and try to make them better. my ending was one thing i wanted to work on. the way i had it, once the final battle was over, it pretty much just ended, and i knew i needed a little bit more but didn't know what. The Great Disappointment by AFI inspired me to come up with the ending that i currently plan on using. of course, i can't tell you what it is ;) .

Re: Life-Changing Song
OOOOO GREAT THREAD!! :D
Allright, I have a few but most surely the main one is: 10,000 Miles - Mary Chapin Carpen!! To me the lyrics represent much more than what they say!! Then: Everlong (acoustic) by Foo Fighters ... can't explain it! Its just a song that really gets to me! :) A while back my sister and I got this CD "LIFE SCAPES" - Above the Clouds. The whole CD is solely instrumental ... extrmely relaxing ... but the sound of #6 'Sailboat In The Sky' makes me feel just like the name implies ... like I'm on a sailboat floating above the clouds!! ;) Also, DIDO -- in her "No Angel" CD songs 10 - I'm No Angel and 11 - My Life ... always seem to describe my life to the exact word!! And finally, but surely not least ... Coldplay! :D My favorite band!! In the CD "Parachutes" my favorite songs are 'Yellow' and 'Trouble' and then in the CD "A Rush of Blood to the Head" -- 'Clocks' and 'A rush of blood to the head'!! :yikes: Every time I hear them its like I hear it for the first time all over again! |

Re: Life-Changing Song
I kinda had two.
One was "My 1st Song" by Jay-Z. It's the final cut on "The Black Album," and he raps about finishing things strong, just like when you were starting. (The song starts with a snippet of an interview with the late Notorious B.I.G., which I had in my signature for the longest of times. It is still my wallpaper.) The other song is "Lukewarm" by New End Original. Their frontman, Jonah Matranga (hope I didn't butcher that name) of Onelinedrawing put it this way in a concert... Quote:

Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

Re: Life-Changing Song
The Piano Man by Billy Joel.
Just listening to the portrayal of the men in the bar is awesome. Also, I'd have to say Vindicated by Dashboard Confessional. |
Re: Life-Changing Song
Pink Floyd - The Wall
"You can't have any pudding till you eat you're meat... how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?" |
Re: Life-Changing Song
Barenaked Ladies - Grade 9
"Well, half my friends are crazy and the others are depressed and none of them can help me study for my math test. I got into the classroom and my knowledge was gone; I guess I should've studied instead of watching Wrath Of Khan." |
Re: Life-Changing Song
I'd like to add a song. From the musical Rent, it is called "Seasons of Love" and the basic chorus is:
"525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear. 525,600 minutes - how do you measure, measure a year? In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee. In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife. In 525,600 minutes - how do you measure a year in the life?" If you aren't familiar with the musical it self, a huge part is the discussion of living with HIV/AIDS and making every moment count. This song touches me like no other, because it puts a lot of things into perspective. |

What A Wonderful World
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you And I think to myself what a wonderful world. I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself what a wonderful world. The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people going by I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do They're really saying I love you. I hear babies crying, I watch them grow They'll learn much more than I'll never know And I think to myself what a wonderful world Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world. |
Re: What A Wonderful World
"A Lifetime" By Better than Ezra...
Allie woke up 8AM Graduation day. Got into a car, And crashed along the way. When we arrived late to the wake, Stole the urn while they Looked away, And drove to the beach 'Cause I knew you'd want it That way. And you were standing On the hood of the car Singing out loud When the sun came up. And I know I wasn't right, But it felt so good. And your mother didn't mind, Like I thought she would. And that REM song was playing In my mind. And three and a half minutes Felt like a lifetime. * and * Maybe in the future I will have this song in my wedding... "The Luckiest" - Ben Folds I don't get many things right the first time In fact, I am told that a lot Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls Brought me here And where was I before the day That I first saw your lovely face? Now I see it everyday And I know What if I'd been born fifty years before you In a house on a street where you lived? Maybe I'd be outside as you passed on your bike Would I know? And in a white sea of eyes I see one pair that I recognize And I know That I am The luckiest I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties And one day passed away in his sleep And his wife; she stayed for a couple of days And passed away I'm sorry, I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong That I am The luckiest -sorry for the long post...words are important |
Re: Life-Changing Song
The Worlds Best song and my personal favorite song is Ben Folds Five's "Philosophy" Because it discribes my attitude toward life.
Won't you look up at the skyline At the mortar, block, and glass And check out the reflections in my eyes Y'See they always used to be there Even when this was all was grass And I sang and danced about a high-rise And you were laughing at my helmet hat Laughing at my torch Go ahead you can laugh all you want I got my philosophy [keeps my feet on the ground] And I trust it like the ground That's why my philosophy Keeps me walking when I'm falling down I see that there is evil And I know that there is good yet the in-betweens I never understood Won't you look at me I'm crazy But I get the job done Yeh, I'm crazy but I get the job done And I say... Go ahead you can laugh all you want But I got my philosophy [keeps my feet on the ground] And I trust it like the ground That's why my philosophy Keeps me walking when I'm falling down I pushed you cause I loved you guys and didn't realize you weren't having fun And I dragged you up the stairs And I told you to fly You were flapping your arms Then you started to cry, you were too high. No, too high. Now you take this all for granted You take the mortar, block, and glass And you forget the speech that moved the stone But it's really not that you can't see The forest from the trees You never been out in the woods alone So you can laugh all you want to But I've got my philosophy [keeps my feet on the ground] And I love you you're my friend But you got no philosophy And now it's time for the song to end |
