nice try andy...i think you lost. unless.....

you drove up and met brandon half way so he could take a picture in a Wendy's somewhere on the 31 bypass around South Bend. That way when DJ and Kyle looked it up they would be fooled.

DJ...hello?!?1 EBAY!!!

Look they used Adobe Photoshopped 7.0

That doesn't mean anyting. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 to import the pictures from my camera. As for the camera he could of changed the EXIF data to fool you.

ebay?

also... I have a question for you guys. Wouldn't it also show photoshop as the program used, since the serial number is blurred out?

Doesn't that mean that it could still be a real picture? ;)

Re: pic: Woohoo! I've got an ipod!

And EXIF data can be easily edited, they might just be screwing with you. 'Course I believe it was edited, just playing devil's advocate :)

Re: pic: Woohoo! I've got an ipod!

Since it was made at 1am, I'm inclined to believe it's fake. Someone was staying up late having some fun.

However, when I opened the picture in notepad and sorted though the rubbish, the photoshop:History' tag was empty. Meaning it wasn't tampered with. Anyone else got anything?

didnt andy upload the photo??? but i guess that doesnt mean anything =P
but Amanda probably made the best point for the real side, and im definatley going to stick with my original desicion, and say that its real...

Maybe it is JVN's!?! i mean... he hasnt posted in this thread yet =X

Why would someone have an ipod with a blurred out serial number....if it's the real picture? .... Anything you want to be telling us andy?? :ahh:

Allright, you guys have to look at this logically. In Post #28, Andy said that there is a twist, and that someone had previously posted the correct answer. Reading through the posts, I've found the following that seem relevent:

Brandon said in Post #4 said that it could be the work of Steve W
Clark Gilbert said it could be Brandon's iPod
David Kelly said it was Photoshoped
DJ said that Andy and Brandon conpsired and that the engraving seems crooked
Max Loblovsky said there could be strange compressions in the file.

Now, to rule out some of these. DJ looked back at the image, and it seems that the crookedness could be the result of the glare.

Max's eyes were tired, and I don't see any weird compressions.

Brandon has shown off his iPod, so we know that it isn't his iPod if the image is real.

We have proved that the image went through Photoshop, at least for the blurring of the serial number.

So it's either photoshopped, or Steve W had something to do with this, I'm thinking it was Steve, Canadians are tricky like that. ;)

In that case, DJ also suggested that the iPod might be given to John. Maybe it's one heck of a gift from one nice guy to another. I've met Andy before, and I believe he would do that for a cool guy like JVN. Or at least John can hope that is the scenario.

I have been putting in 12 hour days for the past month, which stinks because it is nice outside. We (me, 2 other engineers, and 4 stilled tradesmen in my department) just got done shipping a fully-automated robot to our Milwaukee plant, for the calibration and test of our latest Engine Control Modules. The robotic cell incorporated an EPSON Scara 65S robot. On the head of this robot, it had 3 festo cylinders, 1 keyence bar code scanner, 1 Schunk gripper, and 1 ATI tool changer, weighing 6.5 lbs. It was neat to watch, once we got it working. At full speed, it sounded like a Pachinco game. We went from design to shipping in 5 weeks. And it has to run 2 shifts a day when installed. Now, I gotta make sure all of my prints are right, because production wants 4 more.

And... I am trying to start this side business thing, which takes up my evenings, after the kids get to bed.

It's August already? Wasn't it May last week... yikes!

So... with all of that said, a guy has got to have fun. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." OK... back to work.

Andy B.

As always I am humbled. Side business? Need a PR guy? ;) By the way, I love the Perry Mason references - anyone here under the age of 25 know who Andy is talking about? *Checks birth certificate - sigh*

Whoa! Andy I didn't think you'd actually go through with it!!!

I've been swamped at work for the past few days, and didn't see this thread until now.

Okay... seriously now, here is the back story from my point of view:
Andy and I were talking one night, and we were joking around about iPods. He told me he was thinking of getting one for long car rides, and long days at work designing. (Brief aside: who here has ever spent 12 hours at a CAD terminal? *raises hand* who thinks it's better with music? *raises hand*)

We were browsing, and then joking about the free engraving. (I think the original joke was "Put Andy on Survivor") I told him if he had any balls, he'd put "I am JVN" on there... he laughed. That was the last I heard of it...

Then.... I see THIS thread.

Seriously... someone suggested it is a gift for me.
I like that idea. Andy, any chance you'd be willing to donate your iPod to a poor college FIRST dork? ;)

Cool Stuff man,
Technology comes to Indiana. ;)

PS - as far as having my name on Andy's iPod goes, I think it's pretty funny, and pretty darn cool.

I think...

...that this is a pretty darn good replacement for "Type your username with your...". Quite amusing, if you ask me.

Baker, just like I told Rich Wong last nite, you need to learn a new word: Starts with a "V", ends in a "n", has "acatio" in the middle. Both of your families will love you for it. I think you're on the right track with your evening-vacations. :)

Ok, Andy PM'd me last night about how the image gallery resized the picture he uploaded. We do that to save space and whatever, but in this case high-resolution would be better. So since there is so much debate about if this ipod is real or not, I'll upload the picture so everyone can see the high-res version that Andy e-mailed me:
