yes yes this side of florida may enjoy a lovely weather disaster-- everyone boards up this windows and all that fun stuff-- cat. 4 is not fun--as seen by the west coast of our great sunshine state--but why does florida has to get hit bad this year i dunno--but it is crazy
i hope the east side of florida will be okay-- hopefully our bots will be nice and safe now yes gilligan u can go surfing if u really want to : praying for everyone : |
Re: Huricane francis
Yea, this one looks scary. I live in St. Pete, but if this gets that big and hits us I think we could get hit hard too if it continues on its path. Luckily Ive been watching the path of this one for a few days and each projection puts it shifting a bit more north, hopefully it will keep shifting.

Re: Huricane francis
I'm on a few storm chaser e-mail groups. The opinion of many of them (mostly retired meteorologists, many very very experience members of the hurricane prediction groups) is that it will probably turn north. They're not positive, but they think that's more of a probability.
Plus, you guys didn't get a drop of water from Hurricane Charley down there. We got hit by Category 2 up here by the time Charley got here and it did some pretty good damage in some spots, got Orlando pretty good too. You guys didn't get more than a sprinkle of rain :) |
frances
I think you all might be taking this a tad bit too lightly. My family is considering evacuation for this one. Sounds like we are going to be just west of the eye, which is not a good spot to be. We got hit by Charley, and it was no where near as bad as expected, however, we still had bad storm damage. I posted about all of that earlier, and have still yet to have pictures developed. If lil' Ole Charley did that much damage, I'm not looking forward to this one that is substantially bigger. I'm praying for all in the FL area.

That is a pretty nice picture! Well here is the site I have been checking out recently. http://rsd.gsfc.nasa.gov/goes/
Plus check out the latest projections as of 9am today. Looks like Orlando is going to get slammed once again. |

Florida should just build a big giant wall then the hurricane wont be able to get through.

Just for K and Gs... would someone overlap the picture of this hurricane's path with the path of Charley? Also if you could show the sizes of both in proportion, that'd be pretty cool.... I have a feeling my house is near the intersecting point of both paths. I hear this one has a 48 mi wide eye. :ahh:

Re: Hurricane Frances
I really do not know what my plans are quite yet. All I know is that I need to board up my house, pack, and leave. I may travel to Atlanta. I am pretty sure they will require a mandatory evacuation from all counties with coastlines touching from Ft. Lauderdale, to Jacksonville. So, five day weekend for me. What are other people's plans?

Thanks for everyone who is praying for us. I moved to orlando a week after charley but i was up here to help with clean up. Now that i am a resident up here i am def worried. We have a meeting at our complex tonight on what they want us to do. I am telling you tho that the way its projected results here in orlando will be castrophic, they are still repairing stuff from charley. All around ucf there are still down powerlines. As of now i am planning on bunkering down and to ride this out, my parents live in ft. lauderdale so basically no point to go down there. I will have a video camera and digital camera attached to my side during this and i will post pictures on chielfdelphi whenever internet goes back up here. But def prayers are necessary and greatly appreciated
|
Re: Huricane francis
i pray that everyone is okay-- i'm gonna be in my lovely house praying for my life-- shutters are up but u really don't know what's gonna happen-- school are all closed here now
good luck everyone in florida be safe and be smart |
Re: Huricane francis
OK guys, im waiting for the 11PM advisory, but i think it might end up turning north and hitting the Carolinas, which would rock because then we would get the 10ft surf for 2 or 3 days AND have a 5 day weekend. Keep your fingers crossed.
|
Re: Huricane francis
Jim, Dont You Get it? This thing is going to destroy everything in its path. its better that it hits florida, where buildings are built to withstand a huricane then anywhere else witch will be torn apart. thats what happened to Ft Myers They never get huricanes and their structures didnt stand up to it.
|
Re: Huricane francis
Ya i get it, but if it curves north, it may drop to a cat3 because the waters get cooler, so it might not be as bad.
|
Re: Huricane francis
I remember last summer having what was close to a drought, this summer seems like the exact opposite!

Re: Huricane francis
I'm Evacuating out of my dorms to miami, everyone in an on campus apartement (me included) is being moved into one of the classroom building, and since this storm is big and slow, i really dont look forward to spending a day in there, so im outa here!
|
Re: Huricane francis
My attitude of this thing has totally changed during the day. First block was just like normal class. Second block we took school pictures. Third Block we watched the weather channel, and 4th block we found out that we had a 5 day weekend. I was soo excited about that. All this week i had wanted this thing to hit us dead on. I wanted to have the eye hit us. I wanted to go to the beach and walk around. I didn't think anything bad would happen. The worst thing that has ever happened to us (my family) in a hurricane is during Irene, i think (the one after floyd), the cabage palm in my back yard tilted. It's a little higher than a 45 degree angle. i would prolly say 60 degrees from the ground. and it's been there ever since. so i figured this would just be like any of those hurricanes, i figured we would prolly lose that palm and a few leaves, nothing much. however, as soon as i got home, my dad was in the garage, i got out of the car and said, "we have a 5 day weekend." he said, "dont' celebrate too quickly, we have a lot of work to do, and this thing is coming straight towards us." at that point, it still didn't kick in how bad this thing is gonna be. but as i was walking the boards to the correct windows around my house, i was already walking in puddles of water. that's when i remembered how quickly my house floods. my yard is already soaked! but now i'm just freaked out about this thing. our whole house is covered in windows. and not just little window, we have 6 sliding glass doors, one window the size of a sliding glass door, 4 floor to ceiling windows, a half-rotting frame on our back door, and one small window, in our doorless shower. we're waiting this thing out in my laundry room. to imagine the size of my laundry room, imagine the size of a pit with a washer, dryer, and refrigerator in it. yes, there will be 4 of us in there. we'll be there for friday night and saturday. I really am scared now. I don't want to lose everything!!
Oh yeah, and thanks for the wonderful pictures of the hurricane and how big it was, as if i wasn't worried enough!! |

It's headding right towards Hobe Sound, just a little north of where I and the enitre SPAM team lives...(there might be another team closer to Hobe Sound than us but I'm really bad with locations of teams  ) I'm going to ride it out but I know alot of people who are leaving. I'll be taking pics throughout the storm if I can and will post em' later. |
Re: Huricane francis
There ya go! Finally someone else crazy enough not to evacuate....they told me a dozen times to evac for charley.....o well....maybe francis will take a diff path like charley, or so we hope....

Re: Huricane francis
its Headed right towards us. ive been working all day andff yesterday on getting everything ready.
|
Re: Huricane francis
WEll i wasnt planning on evacuating from my apartment untill the meeting at the office. They told us that when are apartments are 100% they are suppose to withstand 105 mph. WEll our buildings are not a 100% thanks to charley and in fact at the meeting the leasing lady said we will be lucky if buildings are still standing up in the complex. That was enough for me but my only other evacuation was to my parents house in Ft. Lauderdale and thats where i am now getting ready. WEll my prayers are with everyone and everyone be safe, especially you titus you scare me a little

Re: Huricane francis
aww, poor Arefin, I'ld come and help you if i didn't hafta put the ones up around my house. I went to my dad's office today. His office is just a big warehouse filled with furniture and wire ornaments. He's expecting to lose everything. We have about 10,000 dollars worth of stuff outside alone, and none if it's tied down. He has a trailer filled with new furniture that he just bought from the Amish a couple of weeks ago that he hasn't unloaded yet, it's got a couple thousand dollars on it alone. He parked his 20 ft. box truck in front of the shop window, because we didn't put anything up over the windows. I took pictures from all around the outside. We're not evacuating. We waiting it out in our laundry room. Our neighbor was nice enough to give us a key to his house if ours was damaged and we needed a roof to stay under. My mom's company already made plans to rent a building in the nearest unhurt town. If they stop working for more than 8 days, they go out of business. The only other place her company has offices is in Maine, and they can't take over the whole business without help from the offices down here, which means they all lose their jobs as well. I'm having a hard time with taking down my trampoline. I already took off the spring cover, all the springs, and the bouncing pad, but i can't take the frame apart  :ahh: I still want to go to the beach on Saturday, but we're locking ourselves in our house, so i don't think i'll be able to. My dad expects the whole county to lose power tonight, so I'll not talk to you all in a while.... I'll miss you guys!!!

Re: Huricane francis
Both Me and My Dad are completely convbinced that our roof will be torn off.

Re: Huricane francis
I've been watching the trajectory of this hurricane the entire time and it seems to be quite threatening. I've gone trough hurricanes of category 4 before and even 5 and let me tell you it is nothing to be careless about. They can be very very dangerous. If you have been told to evacuate, I would try to do so (because that has been said for a reason). But if you will not do it - at least you should (or I should say, all of us should) prepare for it.
I know that people that live in mobile homes HAVE to evacuate and they should because I've seen what Charley did to some mobile homes - Francis will be much worse. Um mm ... regardless of where we live we must all be prepared and pray that nothing fatal will happen. They say that the hurricane is shifting quite a bit, but it is surely going to hit Florida quite hard. Exactly the direction that Francis will take ... we don't yet ... and Francis could take different paths depending on where it is that it enters. One of the paths could severely affect Osceola County, Polk County and leave trough Citrus County, another of the paths suggests that the eye of the hurricane could go straight through Hillsborough County, (which is where I live)... so I WILL POST AGAIN AS FRANCIS GETS NEARER FLORIDA AND MORE INFORMATION IS SAID. :) |
Re: Huricane francis
I was just watching the News and THis storm is approximatly 3 times LARGER than hurricane ANDREW!!! OMG that will be terrible. My hope and prayers are out for everyone who is in first that lives in the path
BTW... its hurricane "Frances" |
Re: Huricane francis
Ya Andrew was very small and compact, thats why when it hit it took everyone by surprise.
When Andrew first hit it was classified as a category 4 but within like the past 3 years it was upgraded to a category 5 |

Well, I eyed it a bit more, and edited the path picture. My house is boarded up and I will be evacuating to Orlando to some bigger hotels. One way or another, I am NOT missing the first University of Oklahoma football game of the season! We will watch it in Orlando, and then retreat to a hotel and wait for it to come Saturday night. and as for those happy about the 5 day weekend, be ready...if it hits you are going to be out of school for much longer than that. I Don't want this thing to hit, and I don't wish it upon the citizens of South Carolina, either. This weekend is not going to be a day at the beach, but the beach might be coming closer to my house. Merit island might be completely submerged. Pray for all, and watch the OU sooners this weekend. Boomer Sooner.

Re: Huricane francis
They are now saying that the storm has slowed down to around 10mph, which is quite bad news, as it means that affected areas will have to endure the winds for much longer. For more info, I would highly recommend the Accuweather Breaking Weather Videos.
It also looks like the Cape Canaveral area is going to be hardest hit, with 130MPH+ winds. If there is damage (structures there were only designed for 125 MPS winds), it could mean the end of the shuttle program. |
Re: Huricane francis
Good luck to all of u ppl down there in the path of this storm. I will pray 4 all of u.

Re: Huricane francis
I made it to miami, There are 2.5 million people est. that are evacuating. Biggest in the history of the state. It took me 2.5 hours to go 4 miles to get on the turnpike. Northbound was traffic almost the whole way. I hear that 95 from cocoa north to the state line is gridlock. Good luck to everyone surviing the storm!

I hope you guys are all okay!
I'll be keeping you all in my prayers. The hurricane worries me too, my grandparents live down there. *worry face* --Dori |
Re: Huricane francis
Yeah its cat 3 now, but its still might cross the golf which is a warm body of water, warm body's = not good.. Hurricane charley was a cat 3 until just before it hit and then was a cat 4. Same thing could happen.
I really don't know where its gonna hit, it just to a big jog west which is bad for ft. lauderdale and that area.. where I live.. I'm packing up and leaving now for inland a bit. I'm pretty close to the evacuation zone. I'm not to worried, but its gonna be a fun one :-) See everyone on the otherside |
Re: Hurricane Frances
Good luck to you all. I guess I am going to ride this one out. I wanted to go to Atlanta, or somebody else's place, but my mom does not want me to leave and have fun. What a party pooper. Not to worry, I am prepared. All windows are boarded up, and I have over thirty gallons of water, with rations. And by rations, I mean Cheeseburger flavored Ravioli's from Chef Boyardee. They also have Pepperoni Pizza! Plus I got this really spiffy generator a few days ago, but the price tag is a bit unforgiving. Hopefully I will be able to use it, but not for too long. :D The eye will get pretty close to where I am, and I am pretty sure Hurricane Frances is going to go to a category four when it makes landfall.
Just perspective, Hurricane Charley traveled across Florida around fifteen miles per hour (I believe). Hurricane Frances is currently going nine miles per hour. So we may be in Hurricane force winds for a long time (probably two days). The eye of Charley was about twelve miles in diameter, Frances is around eighty miles in diameter (this was info given last night, it probably have changed). So it is nothing to take lightly. :( Also, there is a Tropical Storm (#9) out in the Atlantic that is following the same path as Frances. Yikes! :ahh: |
Re: Huricane francis
I just watched the News.... There were 2 people who died in Bahamas and they lost power and phone lines. Hurricane Frances is getting in florida... There are 70,000 household in Miramar, Pembroke pines (about 60 miles south of west palm beach) and Miami Dade county who has lost power now... this is not looking good... :ahh:
|

And if you are hit head on, (and survive) and the eye passes over you, run outside and get pictures, it's one of the most spectacular sights you will ever see. If there's a bridge go up on it and take the pics from that. You should see the lines of rain falling plus the swirling clowds. |

Hehe! :) Well, my parents and family say that I'm just a bit TOO interested in natural phenomenons and disasters. Although, I know it may sound crazy: I want to see a tornado at least once ... it is such an 'expression' of nature's power. What an amazing force ... its like being in the presence of something so powerful that you have no control over ... ummm. Anyway, this ensures to be a force on its own ... and I do plan to take several pictures (which I will post later on) of Francis. However interesting it may be ... it is still something that must NOT be take slightly. PLEASE KEEP SAFE!! and DO NOT DO CARELESS THINGS!! *Update* - I've heard from a conference earlier this morning that there will most likely be power shortages, torrential rains, hurricane winds, and possibly tornadoes. SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU LIVE IN FLORIDA!! |

[Reminiscent] I think that they eye of a hurricane is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena to see. I mean, after all this wind and rain and noise, there's a sudden quiet, still and peace, and I love the smell of rain in the air. [/Reminiscent] |

Yup, Ivan is coming in about 10 days. It may still drift south to Central America, but given the pattern so far, it doesn't look likely.

Ya i was watching that and if my mind serves me correctly if it hits that would be the first time in history that Florida or prob anywere on the east coasst has been triple hit
but first lets get thru this one Winds are picking up here in ft. lauderdale, couple of trees have fallen around my house but as of nowits just really windy i am gonna go out and take pics |

Hey all, I heard from a couple of friends in Palm Bay (30 miles south where I am) that they just lost power; and Frances has not even made land fall! They said it was of a tornado knocking out their power. Just a reminder to stay indoors.
Also, I made a garage brace using Tapcom's and 2x4's. See the attachment to see what it is like. Good luck to all. |
Re: Huricane francis
LOL, im such a nerd, im online using my laptop and my boat battery and an inverter. The power is out. Brace for the eye!

Pff ... that's nothing!! Since I've been watching nothing but the news on this hurricane (I blame my mom for that), I saw a guy who was on the shore by the sea and the water was so strong that it was literally pushing him back. Until finally, this tide came in, and it wasn't even that high - just really strong - well it swept him off his feet and sent him like a bowling ball straight into the camera guy (the bowling pin) who then fell and the signal was lost. Thankfully he was ok after that and that just made me want his job even more!! Besides being funny ... it was pretty scary because that was earlier this afternoon when Francis hadn't even entered! Then there was the guy who was sleeping in his room and a palm tree fell on the roof of his house. Then the ceiling started falling on him. His ear was bleeding, which is by no means funny just worrying! And I will recommend that if you are going outside for any reason ... like for example to take pictures ... tie yourself to a light post or something like that ... so you don't go flying away ... hahaha :ahh: So again! If you live in Florida ... PLEASE BE SAFE!! |
Re: Huricane francis
WOW, This is the one I always feared would come when I lived in FL. I spoke to an friend that lived in my old neighborhood in Royal Palm Beach. As I was on the phone with them their neighbor's roof landed in there backyard. Their roof was loosing shingles and they were not sure if their roof would hold out. Their fence just snapped the 4x4s and blew away. The conversation ended when they decided to move into their bathroom to ride out the storm. This is a SCARY storm. I pray that everyone will be survive this devastating storm.

Re: Huricane francis
YAHOOOO!!! We got power! Thank you Thomas Edison! I've never appreciated the stuff like a day without it in this humid heat. We've been roughing it for only one day but most people are still in the dark. Thank God they got us up. I'm about 15 miles inland - just south of Jupiter and north of
West Palm. It's been quite a ride. I didn't think it was ever going to end. But truthfully the worst damage around here is just trees and some roof tiles. No serious structural damage. At least where I'm at. I've called people around the coast and they had similar damage. The news is focusing on the worst of it. They really know what they're doing as far as the category grades because it sounded like the world was coming to an end, but everything structurally held up great. I've been out chopping trees all day. All the neighbors are pulling together. Phone service is in and out too, but somehow I've got DSL modem sync. Anyhow just thought I'd let folks know we're doing OK out here. But it's going to be a big cleanup. The main thing is the power. FPL was out here first thing this morning going at it. God Bless em :) I can imagine people will get uncivilized real fast without some power in another day or 2. |
Re: Huricane francis
WE recieved power again this morning, we were out for a day and 1/2 but thank God its back on. You really notice stuff you take for advantage when you have electricity. The past two days i have gone out and helped friends that had alot of property damage. Luckly my house was spared for the most part. I have taken alot of pictures and i will load some when i go back to college. I dont know how orlando faired, i will be returning there either today or tommorow. I know my apartment has no phone or internet but thats all i know. Thank you everyone for your prayers. Now we just gotta watch IVAN

I'm back up and running. I stayed at a Days in between International Drive and I4. I could see Wet 'N Wild and Universal Studios attractions from the 2 floor. My house did not even loose power this time, so I am grateful. I got to see my OU game, my house is okay, and I'm alive, what could be better? I spent some time watching the slow path and worrying about my friends in Stuart. Just got word this evening that things weren't as bad as I had feared. Wheeeew. My prayers go out to all families without power.
I'm attaching a picture of I4, the main road in downtown Orlando to Universal and other touristy attractions. I was amazed that there was not a soul on this monster to have to merge on. |

Re: Huricane francis
my apartment complex is still without power (been that way since sunday morning), and except for the lack of internet, it isn't so bad. we break out the grill for supper, and the apartment stays pretty cool in the day time. only problem is the water...somehow the sewage manes and the storm drains got mixed up, so whatever gets flushed down the toilet ends up in the parking lot...luckily, my apartment is upwind from the overflowing storm drains.

Re: Huricane francis
i'm alive
*yay* but the eye was quite cool (i did go outside) Since it came onshore near where I live I saw the actual eye, the spinning clouds just stop at one point. It was really freaky, but then I had to go and crowbar my screen door back in place. Been outta power till yesterday morning and just got internet back up. Tons of damage (tons of pictures) and hopefully Ivan doesn't come here, but if he does, i'll still be here (taking more pictures) (i'll upload the pictures online later but now i need dinner) |
Re: Huricane francis
6 days after it hits......
Yay!!! My computer is up and running!!!!! wow, that took longer than expected... anyway, all day saturday and sunday i sat against my open front door and read my english book. it was soo cool! saturday, around 11, we had the biggest tree in my backyard fall on our roof, luckily there was no damage to the house (at least we don't think so anyway, but we haven't taken it off yet, so we dont' know for sure). we lost a total of 12 trees in our yard. saturday night, 11:30 pm, we went outside with a flashlight to see the water 3/4 of the way up our yard, we were sure that we were gonna get flooded. Little did we know it was high tide, and when we went out at 2 am it was all the way back down. My family all survived. my aunt's house has a hole in it's roof, but only a small leak in the house. my other aunt lives in the villages, and they were stupid because they left saturday in the middle of the hurricane to drive 5 hours south so they could catch a plane monday morning to Las Vegas. My sister in Gainesville was at a friends apartment, they lost power for a couple minutes in the middle of the night. My grandparents are okay, they only lost electric for half an hour. My oldest sister at Cornell was freaking out, she was soo scared for us, but we were okay. oh yeah, my parents STILL won't let me go to the beach, but I think I'll live..... |
