Protests in NYC.
Anyone else following any of the of the protests in New York this week?
I've been listening to the live feed of indy coverage since i got off work this afternoon. If you want to check it out: http://radio.socialtechnology.net/ And you can check out the Indy Media Center New York City's coverage here: http://nyc.indymedia.org/ Some really crazy stuff is going on. To me this is one of the greatest uses of technology, not to get to philosophical, but it seems as though this type of use of the net is what many people always have talked about the net as being, a instantaneous source of information without as many midlemen. Whatever your politics may be, i think this is some really interesting stuff going on. |

You'll never see me in a suit of white!" http://www.infoshop.org/inews/storie.../08/23/7909012 Its a protest with singing! AWSOME! Evidently Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedy's fame just showed up. |

I'm listening to that radio feed now, and it's crazy. It sounds like a war zone, wow.

Re: Protests in NYC.
The protests are large, but largely peaceful. A few dragons got burned, and so so, but that stuff happens at all protests. It shows Bush's true (dis)approval rating :D . I guess NYC was a bad choice for the Republican National Convention. They should have chosen a more conservative city, such as Atlanta or Dallas or Houston. Or, for that matter, Indianapolis. Or is "conservative city" just an oxymoron?

Re: Protests in NYC.
you can check out live webcam feeds from the Department of Transportation:
http://nyctmc.org/xmanhattan.asp# check outs 6th Avenue and 42nd Street. The police are using the same cameras that are on that site to direct their forces through the street. Once again, isn't technology grand! |
Re: Protests in NYC.

My guesse would be that its easier to be mad at someone who has the power then someone who is seeking the power. Quote:
http://www.iamnewyorkcity.org/ and http://www.counterconvention.org And why couldn't the same be said of the RNC? Aren't they people from outside of new york coming in and causing a ruckus themselves? |
