Besides your jokes I really would like to see a regional in Europe (Italy is fine ;-) ) because I plan to start a team next year in Germany.
Does anyone know if there are and how many teams in other countries (I just know Israel and Brazil)

Re: Foreign Regionals

We should try to get a European regional and push this issue at FIRST.

The Israelis got their regional so maybe one day Europe and South/Middle America get theirs.

And what's about the rest of the world: In Australia, Asia, Africa and the middle East are also students.

That would be a great school project supporting a robotics team in South Africa or the Iraq (maybe in a few years when it is safer).
Our partner team (Lancaster HS) is supporting with NASA one team in Israel with knowledge and tools. That would be something good to do.

FLL is present in 20 countries...
I worked as a referee during the first FLL Brazil, in 2004.

A FRC regional in Brazil would be great, not only for Brazilian teams, but all the Latin America could participate too.

Re: Foreign Regionals

The Israeli regional came to reality largely in part to a former FRC competitor. I am not sure how much FIRST did in getting the teams and the funding for them, but I do know that the Israeli branch of GM is sponsoring all the teams and the regional (I believe). Unless there is a driving force to get another foreign regional, I don't think FIRST will put foward much effort to get one (unless the Israeli regional goes well and spreads the word of FIRST to get a lot more teams involved).

It's hard to bring FRC, but it's not impossible.

I've heard about a team from Ecuador... somebody saw that?

Re: Foreign Regionals

which regional are you going to?

What happend here is that Some people talked to a GM reps. here in israel, they agreed to sponsor the event.

Talk to your board of education, get more schools involved!
get them to support the program.

you can send letters, e-mails and pettitions.

How are you gonna pay for that? How many students will go there from your team, I can imagine that it might be really expensive.

Do you have problems getting the visa? I know a lot of exchange students having problems getting their visa.
